I guess that is what I need, thank you

however, I don't remember to have had this problem until now (i.e.
options not being kept @ update); or they had the same behavior ?

Port upgrade problem

2010-07-21 Thread Petre Bandac
Hallo

While upgrading port, I have the following problems:
- some cfg files are overwritten (authdaemon's authmysqlrc)
- some make install options are not kept (maildrop - not compiled against mysql
and courier imap - fam is compiled, even though initially was ruled out)

The upgrade sequence is:

# portsnap fetch update
# portmanager -u

Am I doing something wrong?

Thank yoy for your time,

it happened as follows - fresh install (following the onlamp.com

I have installed a raid 1 system with gmirror and I want to have both

what are the steps in order to make /dev/ad2 bootable ?

(I am trying to prevent the following situation: one of the hdd fails
and I must boot from the last remaining, so I guess it should be
bootable too)

you may want to install /usr/ports/net-mgmt/cidr

192.168.0.0/24 is the whole class C, i.e. from 1 to 254 (0 being the
network address and 255 being the broadcast address)

dual boot with freebsd boot loader

2005-08-02 Thread Petre Bandac
hello

I have the following configuration

ad0s1 - win xp with ntfs
ad0s2 - freebsd

they were installed in the above order, so now I can use only freebsd

is there a way to configure freebsd's boot loader to be able to boot
from the win partition (I googled around and found boot0cfg (8), but
didn't have the time to play with it)

what I want to know is if (making a similarity with linux's lilo) I can
make the boot loader to have the options 1) boot win, 2) boot freebsd

I do not want to install grub or other boot loader unless the default
freebsd boot manager cannot be used in the configuration described above

thanks,

I get this error when portupgrading amavisd-new

xxl# pkg_info p5-Mysql-modules-1.2219
[snip]
Required by:
amavisd-new-20040701

and also there is another interesting thing:

xxl# use.perl --help
Usage:
  /usr/local/bin/use.perl port   -> /usr/bin/perl is the perl5 port
/usr/local/bin/use.perl system -> /usr/bin/perl is the system perl

perl has the same path for the system and port version

what are the differences between them (besides the version number,

sound question

2003-11-13 Thread Petre Bandac
hello

I have a problem I somehow fixed once, but I can't remember how :-)

sim-icq gives me the following message

play: /dev/dsp: Device busy

(it uses the play command for the sound plugin)

it means that somehow the sound channel is used by other program (I have xmms
running, and also enlightenment has the sounds option on), but only the play
command doesn't run

can I make play use other device ? which one ?

TIA,

petre

all I did was

ipfw add pass all from $subnet to any

and it works

my problem was that I googled around and didn't find the answer to my problem,
so I had to figure it out myself

if you are familiar with freebsd routers/gateways, I would welcome any hints/
advices/howtoes/links/etc

what I want is to get the LAN behind rl1 to the internet (connected via rl0)
with routable (i.e. public) IP addresses

a few years of linux experience behind, that's why I tried a comparison

that's happening when portupgrade-ing

is there any way I can solve the problem

and the second problem:

I have installed openoffice as a package, it works ok until I try to open doc
files, then it says

error loading document; error creating object; the file could not be created

with txt files it works fine, but also cannot save them (nor any other file)

when google-ing around I have found out that is a major bug signalled by many
other people, so I wonder if I portupgrade openoffice to the latest version,
this problem will still persist ?

thanks,

petre

ipfw firewall questions

2003-02-02 Thread Petre Bandac
hello

I'm about to "compose" my first ipfw firewall - and, since I have worked quite
a lot with iptables, I'm interesed in a few minor similarities:

1 - the firewall is called by rc.conf ? or ca I call it at boot time via
whatever *.sh placed in the right place

2 - the firewall can be a executable bash script (i.e. like a regular linux
firewall, with variables like myIP="192.168.0.0") ?

I guess the rest is covered in the docs I have carefully RTFM :-)

thanks,

petre

booting problem

2002-07-18 Thread Petre Bandac

when booting:

BTX loader 1.00 BTX version is 1.01
Console: internal video/keyboard
Bios drive A: is disk0
Bios drive B: is disk1
BIOS 639kB/64448kB available memory

FreeBSD/i386 bootstrap loader, Revision 0.8

int=005 err= efl=00010202 eip=04f96
eax=8b0675ff ebx=30a39fc0 ecx=f98320c4 edx=8302
esi=180002 edi=fa2 ebp=5f7f03c esp=bd
cs=002b ds=0033 es=0033 fs=0033 gs=0033 ss=0033
cs:eip 62 6c 34 56 72 31 48 63 90 3d 15 55
ss:esp 62 6c 34 56 72 31 48 63 90 3d 15 55
BTX halted

I operated some changes in the BIOS - but I can't remember exactly where and
load bios defaults didn't help .

any ideas ?

thanks,

petre

desktop icons in enlightenment 0.16-5

2002-07-14 Thread Petre Bandac

it seems I'm not capable to get me some desktop icons ... the icon box stores only the
minimized applications

I want a nice iconbar like gnome/kde have - is it possible or do I have to change the
wm ?

thanks,

petre

Re: desktop icons in enlightenment 0.16-5

2002-07-13 Thread Petre Bandac

like having 2 wm's at the same time ? doesn't it eat your resources ?

I think I found a compromise - I run only /usr/X11R6/bin/panel - and I get
the gnome iconbars - after all that's what I want

thanks
