Hey everybody,

I'm having a frustrating X problem. I installed X via portupgrade and
hacked /etc/ttys to enable xdm. I can log in successfully both as root
and as a non-priv user, but either way I get to a screen that says:

Session Menu

Load Session # Delete Session # Break Lock # Default/Fail Safe # Cancel

But if I disable xdm and simply use startx, it launches X and my window
manager fine. I tried deleting my .xinitrc but that didn't help.

I have a feeling some X component isn't in place. I tried compiling gdm
as a replacement but that didn't help (same symptoms). I was able to run
gdmsetup (or was it gdmconfig?) by logging into gdm in fail-safe mode, and
I could change some of the GDM settings, but I didn't see anything that I
could twist to fix the problem.

FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE May 12
xorg-6.9.0

you should place .xinitrc file in your home directory a model can be found
in /etc/X11/xinitrc

simply copy it to .xinitrc in your homedir

You should place .xinitrc in your home directory. simply copy
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc to ~/.xinitrc

that should work

No Sir, the freebsd machine is an independent machine

guessing . . . but most (nOOb) gateway machines use 192.168.1.1 . . .

what should use a not noob gateway machine ?

OpenSSL is included in the base system. You can check to see what
version you have by looking in the /usr/include/openssl/opensslv.h
header file.

Hello, Dan

I don't have openssl.h i've installed minimal distro without ssl. That's why
i ask my question where from comes the ssl support on FreeBSD: OpenSSL or
any other 9maybe home-made). But i guess it is openssl because of
/usr/include/openssl you have mentionned above.

just to be sure.
thanks

compiling problem against libc_r

2006-06-01 Thread Vitaly D

Hello

i have a reccurent problem

while compiling the software originally written for Linux it is often
compiled agains pthread library, but in freebsd such a library is called
libc_r (i'm using 4.11 RELEASE)

so i often adjust configure options with LIBS=-lc_r option

but here comes the problem
when calling libtool such as following

/bin/sh ../libtool --tag=CC --mode=link gcc -g -02 [snip] -lc_r option is
present

but when immideatly after the effective command is called like gcc -g -02
the -lc_r option is systematically absent!

i've tried to mannually adjust makefile by placing -lc_r option even in CC
flag

CC= gcc -lc_r

but it didn't solve my problem

please can you help me. how should i proceed to compile against libc_r
cause LIBS=-lc_r doesn't seems to work.

it's really boring to execute gcc lines by hand :( HEEELP!!! i'm tired

pango freetype2 installation problems

2006-05-29 Thread Vitaly D

Hello, All

for a story i've installed minimal FreeBSD 4.11 on intel (i386). I'm trying
to make a desktop station. i'm compiling from official sources (dont' use
packages system)

i've installed XFree86 4.6.0 (fontconfig freetype 2.1.8 included)

!!! Important issue about freetype 2.2.1 on freebsd 4 series
i've tried to make pango 1.5.0 (latest) I get compile error in
pango-ot-info.c complaining about freetype.h due to #error macros included
at the head of freetype.h.

By the way in pango 1.5.0 package some include directives trying to search
for ftobject.h in a wrong directory. (freetype/ftobject.h instead of
freetype/config/ftobject.h Solved by adjusting
CPPFLAGS=-I/usr/X11R6/freetype2/freetype/config ... They say in freetype.h
that this hierarchy won't be followed in future releases but for now it
seems to bring obscure errors while building softaware relying on freetype
(what the F... ft2build.h is not included yet ???)

what should i do? i've tried to install freetype 2.2.1 (latest) but it
complains about sysntax error in /usr/include/sys/mman.h line 140
!!! and even i've sucsseeded it seems that
freetype2.2.1 package preserves the same include hierarchy as 2.1.8 so it
won't resolve my problem (read before this paragraph).

please if anyone see an issue about my problem ??? CC me because i'm not on
the list and internet acces is too expensive for me.

i'll try to post a bug report at pango list (include problem #include
freetype/ftobject.h should be freetype/config/ftobject.h

and also make a follow up to freetype2 team as it seems to report syntax
error in /usr/include/sys/mman.h

have a nice day.

Best Regards
Vitaly
