I'm trying to get a sound from my laptop. I need sound card recommendation
Dear ALL, After reading 120 pages of Open Sound System manual (the one compiled from ports) and playing with my audio card for almost a week. I came to a conclusion that my present audio card Audiology SE is not fully supported (duplex mode) even with the OSS compiled from ports. (Or I am just dumb to set it properly). Hence, I can not use VoIP which is really important to me. So I would like to get a recommendation for a sound card. In particular, I would like to get a recommendation from people running fully functional VoIP (Skype or SIP) using the sound cards fully recognized by FreeBSD available drivers (I do not want to mess any more with OSS from ports). The easiest thing for me would be to buy probably Sound Blaster Live ($30) but I over heard that Creative has change the chip set and that the kernel has troubles with new chip even without duplex mode. I hope that this is a wrong information. If you are using VoIP would you be so kind to tell me your audio card, the driver you use and possibly set up (at least if you are using 6.2 Stable or 7.0 Current and if you are using generic kernel and loading drivers, or what kind of custom kernel should I built) Thanks a lot Predrag ___ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"
Invalid or unrecognized AC97 codec in Creative/Ensoniq CT5880 sound
I have a problem with onboard sound on a Gigabyte GA-7DXR motherboard, am trying to determine if the fault is with the software drivers, or if the AC97 codec is really dead or not there. I have Linux (Slackware 11.0) installed, also FreeBSD 6.2, have also made and run live CDs for NetBSD 2007 (v4 beta), Mepis (Linux), OliveBSD (based on OpenBSD), and the DOSDRV on the CD also doesn't work (no specific messages there). I have never had any sound at all with this motherboard/sound card and am getting ready to buy an add-on PCI sound card (or USB?). CPU is AMD Athlon 1400 MHz, I have 40 GB Western Digital hard drive. Other installed OS, besides Linux and FreeBSD, is DR-DOS 7.03. I have a logical partition where I could install a 180-day evaluation version of MS-Windows Server 2003 from a CD that I received in the mail unsolicited, or could install NetBSD 3.1. I show the pertinent portions of the dmesg files, or /var/log/syslog in the case of Slackware. Hi Jamie, You can add me to your list of others who've had no problems with flash7/Youtube running in a native browser. Actually that's not entirely true - the only "problem" is sound drops out of sync almost straight away, but otherwise it works just fine. -- Regards, Paul Fraser // Independent Technical Consultant // Ph: +61 405 341 905 // furyc0de.net This correspondence and any related attachments are confidential. Help making too quiet sound work on Mac Pro running -STABLE
I have a mac pro running amd64 -STABLE from a week or so ago. Most things are working well, but sound's not quite there. When I plug a set of powered speakers into the headphone jack on the front of the machine and max the mixer setting and the speakers, I can just barely hear an mp3 played by mpg123. I'm loading snd_hda from /boot/loader.conf, and /dev/sndstat tells me: FreeBSD Audio Driver (newpcm) Installed devices: pcm0: at memory 0x9310 irq 23 kld snd_hda [20070619_0045] (1p/1r/1v channels duplex default) There's a chunk of the dmesg output from a verbose boot at http://shrimp.alerce.com/misc/delicious-dmesg which seems to include all of the pcm info. What other info can I provide? g. ___ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"

Good day all, I am having problems getting sound to work on an old Dell Latitude. I configured the sound card following the handbook, and the driver (snd_ich) loads just fine. A few more questions. The instructions say: 0. _Remove_ _all_ sound support in your kernel! Do this first before anything else! 1. Extract, dump everything into your kernel directory typically "/boot/kernel" 2. kldxref /boot/kernel 3. cp soundcard.h /usr/include/sys/ 4. Reload _ALL_ sound modules, or, reboot. Is it necessary to recompile the kernel without sound support, if it has previously been compiled in? Would this mean compiling it without device sound? Does "dump everything" mean use dump, or could they just be copied? If dump, how is it used? Sound Card Problem
All, I upgraded to the lastest version of RELENG_6 and now my onboard sound does not work. It worked on earlier versions of RELENG_6(3 Months Ago). Did something change that I should be aware of. I rebuilt system again just to verify. I am using an SOYO SY-P4I 845PE motherboard. It does not seem to see it now. Re: X server remote login and sound
Nagy László Zsolt wrote: Christian Walther wrote: I'm not sure if sending uncompressed audio data over the network is such a good idea. Are you sure that esd does not compress the data? By the way, esd can be used with any audio application. It can emulate a real soundcard. Example follows. On the server (where your real sound card is located): esd -promiscuous -tcp -pubic -port 1500 On the client: esddsp -v -s 192.168.0.13:1500 mpg123 something.mp3 The mpg123 program does not need to have ESD support. The esddsp program creates a fake pcm device before starting mpg123. Best, Laszlo Why not just use the -C flag with ssh and port forward the port using ssh as well (-L ...)? The only problem would be with sharing the soundcard/port, since I'm not sure if only one user can connect and use esd at one time. However, this can be setup per-user given a little foreknowledge and planning. -Garrett ___ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"
