Thanks for all the replies. FreeNAS looks like the ticket. BTW, sharity-light is marked as broken in the ports -- does not compile. I'm on 8.0-STABLE amd64. Many retail stores now carry these. 3. Webdav (included with Apache 2.2). This setup is as complex as Samba; but you can access it securely across the internet via SSL. If by "share" you mean use a network file system than there is no other way then to use - a network file system, with all its complexity.
