Aak, Buildworld is failing
make buildworld has failed on my system. I've done the make cleandir thing twice along with deleting /usr/obj/usr, etc per the handbook. The error appears to be a problem compiling Kerberos 5 (I have MAKE_KERBEROS5=true in make.conf). I don't know where to start. I've considered just removing my usr/src directory and cvsup'ing everything fresh. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. HEADS UP: OpenSSL 0.9.7 in -STABLE
Hello All, I have just MFC'd OpenSSL 0.9.7 into the -STABLE branch. If you encounter any problems which you think may be related to this import, please reply to this message (or otherwise post to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>) including a thorough description of the issue. This new version of OpenSSL includes support for BSD cryptodev, so that you can offload processing to a supported crypto card (see the crypto(4) man page). There are a host of other improvements as well. See src/crypto/openssl/NEWS. Cheers, -- Jacques A. Vidrine <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://www.celabo.org/ NTT/Verio SME . FreeBSD UNIX . The last time I remembered someone complaining about this problem back in December, I thought they said that making world fixed the problem. Looking back at the thread, I see that they really said that recompiling with _linuxthreads_ fixed the problem.[1] Well, you can edit the KVA_PAGES value in src/i386/include/pmap.h, which installs to /usr/include/machine/pmap.h, to be consistent with your kernel (at which point you won't need it in the kernel config). For a more permanent solution, you can apply the patch in the PR I referenced in a previous message. Configuring SMP on Proliant 5500 Quad Xeon 500Mhz
Hi Here is the system: Compaq Proliant 5500 Quad Xeon 500Mhz Booting from Compaq Smart Raid configured to give 3 virtual drives JBOD on seperate adaptec SCSI 2 PCI card Fibre Channel Array 1.2T Adaptec AHA 6944A/TX 4 port PCI 10/100 NVidia PCI TNT2 M64 32M Video card - working fine after a struggle - configured as vesa vesa! Built in ATI Rage IIc (DISABLED) on standard peripheral interface FreeBSD 4.7 My first attempt at configuring this system for SMP was a total failure!! and I also lost the original configuration as I was unable to re-start successfully with kernel.old. I havesuccessfully rebuilt the configuration as single processor and am ready to have another go to build as SMP. Before doing so some handholding advice would be very welcome. Is there anyone out there with a similar system who could advise. Thanks To Unsubscribe: send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message
make installworld fails on libperl.a
I am using a FreeBSD-4.7-STABLE (Jan24) to build world and kernel for an older machine (Pentium1). buildworld and buildkernel proceed OK on the build host. In the install host I do: mount build:/usr/src /usr/src mount build:/usr/obj /usr/obj makeinstallworld and then I get an error about a missing perl library. This already occurred twice, in the last two days (I cvsup my sources daily). Has this been noticed already? Error messages below. V5 with Proliant 5500 SMP Quad
Hi I had just finished an install of FreeBSD 4.7 onto a Proliant 5500 Quad system, reconfigured the kernel to (as I thought) support SMP when my new CD set from FreeBSD Mall arrived with V5.00. I put the CDset to one side as I did make installkernel. Well the SMP kernel failed and as I seemed to be unable to recover from boot.old I decided to do another install and go for V5. Here is my report on on my experience so far with V5: 1. The boot sequence from V5 gave me an error Checksum RSDP - does anyone know what that is? 2. The graphics card is nvidia TNT2 M64 PCI in the primary PCI bus (has to be here because this card does not work in the secondary PCI bus for some reason). I struggled to get X windows working with this card on 4.7and eventualy succeeded by selecting vesa vesa as the card. While working on this I had no problems during the install process under 4.7. However installing from the V5 CD produced scattered artifacts on the screen during the file loading sequences. At the time of this email I have not even been able to attempt configuring X under V5 because of the mouse problems. 3. The next thing is there are some problems with configuring the mouse. I tried a PS/2 three button mouse KEIO with a wheel by KYE systems group and an alps glidepoint device. The latter device was recognised by the system psm0: irq 12 on atkbdc psm0: model Glidepoint, Device ID 0 There were no apparent irq clashes. No matter what choices are made the system crashes when "Trying to start the mouse daemon" . The only choice is to reboot. Disabling the mouse daemon got nowhere - X windows config program crashed! Any way I am back configuring 4.7 and am slowly overcoming the problems. I am asking for guidance on configuring SMP for this system in a separate email! Cool. I wouldn't expect process startup time to be a big deal unless you have new clients initiating new connections like mad, and I hope that isn't a common case. (Then again, I'm not a database person, and I don't know how e.g. PHP might interact with the database.) The reliability advantage of multiple processes seems important as well. In any case, I will migrate over to the correct lists if I have any more questions about postgresql. ;-) Thanks.
