Hi all! Will there be support for Intel 9462? I want to try FreeBSD, but my
Wifi does not work :(

I'm sorry for the delayed reply. I took a look at the Linux iwlwifi code and
it seemingly uses a much more generous timeout (5,000us) than we do for EEPROM
reads. So I can't see any reason not to double it if that fixes the driver for
you.

I'll put the patch in my queue and commit. Thanks!

Just wanted to bump the topic up. Can the issue be analyzed or the simplistic

Played a bit more with parameters without any success and also tried it in
Linux where it fails in the same way until I force wext driver when starting
wpa_supplicant. Don't want to waste more time on this, it was a backup option
anyways.

FreeBSD is vulnerable to CVE-2020-26144 of the "FragAttacks" findings. For
background see Section 6.5 in https://papers.mathyvanhoef.com/usenix2021.pdf

This vulnerability can be reproduced using the FragAttack test tool at

patch: git diff file

FreeBSD accepts fragmented 802.11 frames in a protected Wi-Fi network even when
some of the fragments were not encrypted. This corresponds to CVE-2020-26147 of
the "FragAttacks" research. For background see Section 6.3 in
https://papers.mathyvanhoef.com/usenix2021.pdf

This vulnerability can be reproduced using the FragAttack test tool at
https://github.com/vanhoefm/fragattacks with the test case "ping I,P,E" and/or
"ping I,P,E" (the transmitted ping request should be rejected by the kernel).

The attached patches fixes this vulnerability. It was tested using a Belkin
F5D8053 (run driver) in client mode. I'm not sure if I'm using the best way to
track whether a fragment was encrypted, but it gets the job done with a low
number of code changes.

FYI: I've submitted a similar patch to NetBSD:

wlans_rtwn0="wlan0"
ifconfig_wlan0="WPA DHCP"
create_args_wlan0="country DE regdomain ETSI"

and the appropiate entry in wpa_supplicant.conf connecting to an 11g AP.

Good luck,

during authentication with WPA-PSK.

Sidenote: wpa_supplicant hangs if restarted, device must be unplugged to fix
this.

I have a Lenovo Y540 which also has a AC 9560, and was having this issue. I
tried cold booting but that didn’t work, what eventually did get it to work
consistently is booting while Ethernet is connected, if cold boot with Ethernet
my wireless card will work (although sometimes requiring me to restart netif)
until I boot into Linux, although sometimes booting FreeBSD working wireless to
windows back to FreeBSD will still work.

[PATCH] Adjust EEPROM read timeout for Intel 4965AGN M2

I'm sorry for a very simplistic change but propagating ETIMEODOUT error from
iwn_read_prom_data upwards is still causing kernel panic as iwn_detach assumes
that the device data structure is complete.

I will work on this problem (error handling) in the future, but since time is
scarce it's better to have at least something working than nothing.

[Bug 255465] Kernel panic with Intel Wireless 4965AGN chip

2021-05-04 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=255465

--- Comment #2 from Radosław Chmielarz  ---
Hi,

Sorry for this, it seems I forgot to add it.

I was looking into the code to figure out where the problem is originating from
and the actual problem turned out to be that I was getting "timeout reading
ROM" error messages at startup, this in turn was causing all the values to be 0
and since the code in ieee80211_get_ratetable() (called from
ieee80211_chan_init()) assumed that the channel value passed in was valid it
was calling panic() to indicate that there is missing implementation for this
device.

I have then drilled down to the code which was reading EEPROM and compared it
with Linux (where the device is working). I had not seen any significant
differences apart from a different timeout handling. After modifying the
timeout the device was successfully initiated.

I own an Intel 4965AGN MM2 with TA: D74676-004 and the measured EEPROM read
time for it with 5 us delay is 60 us and with 1 us delay 25 us. This is larger
than what the current code supports. It's also strange since the code is
already several years old and this particular chip is quite popular (at least
from what I have read). Either this is specific to my hardware setup or the
hardware is not used so often.

I will post a separate email with a patch for adjusted read timeout and timeout
error handling.

I have fix this issue in OpenIntelWireless/itlwm project:
https://github.com/OpenIntelWireless/itlwm/commit/1fc63d576975d56578ce2048f00f83e7ca550d97

I am not sure if it is a hardware bug for newer intel wireless card, for
9560ac-cnvi and later Gen2 cards, MSI-X interrupt mode is enable by default,
Intel wireless drivers on linux/Windows are supported and using MSI-X interrupt
default, when rebooting to freebsd, iwm on freebsd only support MSI interrupt
but the hardware is configure as MSI-X, so the interrupt will never happened
and caused the issue.
Here are two solutions:
1. Implement MSI-X interrupt mode on iwm.
2. Disable MSI-X when init the hardware, and it is the solution what I am
using.

Thanks,
zxystd

[Bug 255465] Kernel panic with Intel Wireless 4965AGN chip

2021-04-28 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=255465

Bug ID: 255465
   Summary: Kernel panic with Intel Wireless 4965AGN chip
   Product: Base System
   Version: CURRENT
  Hardware: amd64
OS: Any
Status: New
  Severity: Affects Only Me
  Priority: ---
 Component: wireless
  Assignee: wirel...@freebsd.org
  Reporter: radoslaw.chmiel...@emersi.eu

Hi,

After attaching Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN through PCIe slot I have
experienced a kernel panic on startup with stack trace pointing to
ieee80211_chan_init() originating from iwn_attach(). Probably the kernel is
pointing at a more precise piece of code but I'm using an USB keyboard and the
keyboard driver is not yet loaded so I can't type anything on DDB console.

Despite kernel panic coredump was not created. This is most probably because on
this device I have only limited amount of disk space (4GB).

If there is a way of using devctl rescan to hotplug this device after system
startup it would be great. The only idea I had is to modify iwn.c and remove
code from it until the system start panicking again to point me to the correct
line of code. But this is very time consuming because of all the recompiles.

I've made a low-tech picture with my phone.

Add to comment #15
After a clean install (not upgrade) of 13.0-RELEASE the problem is still there.
It still looks like bus contention to me. Another way I can stop the ucode
loading is to add to /etc/rc.local the following
/usr/sbin/usbconfig -u 0 -a 3 power_save

Without powersave, with no usb devices plugged in, and cold start, is a useful
workaround.

In GhostBSD the WiFI configurations are more automatic and forgiving but the

[Bug 255337] Atheros AR9462 Wireless problems

2021-04-22 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=255337

Bug ID: 255337
   Summary: Atheros AR9462 Wireless problems
   Product: Base System
   Version: 13.0-RELEASE
  Hardware: amd64
OS: Any
Status: New
  Severity: Affects Some People
  Priority: ---
 Component: wireless
  Assignee: wirel...@freebsd.org
  Reporter: gma...@gufi.org

I have tried to install a fresh 13.0-RELEASE on a DELL Precision m4800.

The wifi card is a AR9462 Wireless Network Adapter that should be well
supported since FreeBSD 10-RELEASE.

During boot the card is identified correctly:

root@m4800:/home/gmarco # grep ath /var/run/dmesg.boot

device=0x0034 subvendor=0x1028 subdevice=0x020d
vendor = 'Qualcomm Atheros'
device = 'AR9462 Wireless Network Adapter'
class  = network

The driver is ath0:
root@m4800:/home/gmarco # sysctl -a|fgrep antenna
dev.ath.0.rxantenna: 1
dev.ath.0.txantenna: 0

I have in /etc/rc.conf:
wlans_ath0="wlan0"
ifconfig_wlan0="WPA SYNCDHCP"
create_args_wlan0="country IT"

A simple /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf like:
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ap_scan=1
eapol_version=1

network={
  ssid="sweetguest"
  psk="mypsk"
}

After a reboot the card is in this way:
root@m4800:/home/gmarco # ifconfig wlan0
wlan0: flags=8843 metric 0 mtu 1500
ether 00:02:03:04:05:06
groups: wlan

privacy MIXED deftxkey UNDEF txpower 23 bmiss 7 mcastrate 6 mgmtrate 6
scanvalid 60 wme burst roaming MANUAL bintval 0
parent interface: ath0
media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet autoselect (autoselect)
status: no carrier
nd6 options=29

The "country IT" correctly set the card with /etc/regdomain.xml parameters.

NO IP is assigned and the card is deaf and dumb infact it is unable to find the
near wifi networks:
root@m4800:/home/gmarco # ifconfig wlan0 up scan
root@m4800:/home/gmarco #

In the messages I found:
Apr 22 13:51:24 m4800 kernel: ar9300_flash_map: unimplemented for now
Apr 22 13:51:24 m4800 kernel: ar9300_eeprom_restore_internal[4323] No vaid CAL,
calling default template
Apr 22 13:51:24 m4800 kernel: ar9300_hw_attach: ar9300_eeprom_attach returned 0

The MAC address is a bit strange too (?).

It seems the card is unable to transmit:
sysctl dev.ath.0.stats | fgrep -v :\ 0
dev.ath.0.stats.ast_tx_intr: 386
dev.ath.0.stats.ast_tx_raw: 306
dev.ath.0.stats.ast_tx_xretries: 123

I have tried to run the wpa_supplicant in debug mode:

that's for loader.conf, and it's the default anyway, and it doesn't prevent
devmatch from loading it.

devmatch_blacklist="iwm.ko"

should, and if it doesn't, that's a bug that needs to be addressed

your next workaround then would be to rename or remove the module and rerun
service kldxref.

This is because of devmatch(8) is taking effect. If you don't like this
behavior, try putting devmatch_enable="NO" to /etc/rc.conf .

BTW, it's recommended to use mailing list to ask questions, for example,

Hmm... I use an iwn(4) NIC on my laptop, on which I track head (and stable/12

[Bug 255012] iwn driver kernel panic

2021-04-12 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=255012

Bug ID: 255012
   Summary: iwn driver kernel panic
   Product: Base System
   Version: CURRENT
  Hardware: amd64
OS: Any
Status: New
  Severity: Affects Only Me
  Priority: ---
 Component: wireless
  Assignee: wirel...@freebsd.org
  Reporter: nathanielbarragan1...@gmail.com

The iwn driver, after a few hours of use, will kernel panic with a page fault.
It would seem that it occurs in iwn_rx_compressed_ba(). This is reproducable.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Connect to an AP (in my case it's using wpa_supplicant using WPA2 PSK)
2. Allow traffic to flow in and out of the interface (In this case, you can
just ping an address, and to speed up the process, put a wait time of 0.1 is
what I do to reproduce, but this happens during normal usage as well)
3. Wait for kernel panic.

Attached is a screenshot of the backtrace (please excuse the quality, I only
had a phone camera available), and am available to help as needed, although
response may take anywhere from instant to a few days. No longer than 3 days
usually.

[Bug 254683] Unable to connect get IP address from WPA-EAP TTLS network on FreeBSD 13.0-RC4

2021-04-01 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=254683

--- Comment #5 from Ian Sutter  ---
I would like to request a change of the title of this bug to "Unable to get IP
address from WPA-EAP TTLS network with iwm driver"

I just tested connecting to the same network with a wifi dongle and it worked
like a charm. This leads me a believe that it is a bug with iwm driver
specifically, and not a problem with the DHCP stack.

Hello,

I am unable to get an ip address from my college wifi access point. My college
uses Tunneled TLS with two possible inner authentication mechanisms (PAP or
GTC). I have tried a few different configurations but none of them worked.

Am I potentially looking in the wrong place? Could this be an issue with
dhclient?

Please note that this issue did not exist in the 12.x release series (although
my tests then were with drivers other than iwn)

here are the combinations I have tried in /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf that I can
remember:

// this one usually works when I try it
network={
ssid="networkname" // this is just a placeholder for the real ssid
key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
identity="insert my identity here"
password="insert my password here"
}

// specifying anything other than the above has always given me problems but I
// tried it anyways
network={
ssid="networkname"
key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
eap=TTLS
phase1="peaplabel=0"
phase2="auth=GTC"
identity="insert my identity here"
password="insert my password here"
}

// I also tried it with PAP
network={
ssid="networkname"
key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
eap=TTLS
phase1="peaplabel=0"
phase2="auth=PAP"
identity="insert my identity here"
password="insert my password here"
}

none of these combinations have worked.

The hardware I am working with is a System76 galago pro (not the most recent
one). the wifi chipset is an intel Wireless AC 9560. If there is any other
information I need to add, please tell me.

Thanks,

Ian Sutter

--- Comment #5 from Mark Johnston  ---
Whether the lock is held doesn't really matter. At this point the driver owns
the mbuf. The lock only protects driver state, so if, say, it updates a
descriptor to point to the mbuf buffer, we'd want to ensure that the pointer is
cleared before the mbuf is freed or handed off to other layers. But the actual
m_freem() call does not require any synchronization.

other if statements that call m_freem() are locked, the first one isn't.

Was this analysis based on a crash you hit, or the output of some static
analysis? It is copying the mbuf contents into a buffer of size RSU_TXBUFSZ,
not of size sizeof(struct r92s_tx_desc).

Bug ID: 254479
   Summary: Kernel remote heap overflow in Realtek
RTL8188SU/RTL8191SU/RTL8192SU Wifi Cards driver
   Product: Base System
   Version: CURRENT

  Assignee: wirel...@freebsd.org
  Reporter: cutesmilee.busin...@gmail.com

rsu_raw_xmit() in the last if statement calls rsu_tx_start(), taking a
user-controlled mbuf as parameter.
at the end of the function m_copydata() is called, and it copies the
user-controlled mbuf with the length of the packet / the length of the mbuf
(which isn't checked), the smaller size is taken (the user can provide a big
payload), and the mbuf gets copied to the TX Descriptor struct (struct
r92s_tx_desc) which is 32 bytes.
these vulnerabilities are only for Realtek RTL8188SU/RTL8191SU/RTL8192SU wifi
cards (that are connected via USB?).

vulnerable code:

static int
rsu_tx_start(struct rsu_softc *sc, struct ieee80211_node *ni,
struct mbuf *m0, struct rsu_data *data)
{
struct ieee80211vap *vap = ni->ni_vap;
struct ieee80211_frame *wh;
struct ieee80211_key *k = NULL;
struct r92s_tx_desc *txd;
uint8_t type;
int prio = 0;
uint8_t which;
int hasqos;
int xferlen;
int qid;

[...]

wlandebug.8: remove Xref for missing manpages

Remove references for: athdebug(8), athstats(8) and wlanstats(8)

Those are tools in the tools/ directory that are not built as part of the
base
system. According to the toolds/README file:

"...these tools are not meant to be built as part of the standard
system..."

Even more, the tools/tools/README is not udpated and wlanstats does not
even
built on current:

error: cast from 'struct sockaddr *' to 'const struct sockaddr_dl *'
increases
required alignment from 1 to 2 [-Werror,-Wcast-align]

[Bug 254280] [PATCH] Add USB product ID for Asus USB N10 Nano Rev. B1

2021-03-14 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=254280

Bug ID: 254280
   Summary: [PATCH] Add USB product ID for Asus USB N10 Nano Rev.
B1
   Product: Base System
   Version: 12.2-RELEASE
  Hardware: Any
OS: Any
Status: New
  Severity: Affects Some People
  Priority: ---
 Component: wireless
  Assignee: wirel...@freebsd.org
  Reporter: mickey...@gmx.net

Created attachment 223261
  --> https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=223261&action=edit
Patch to add USB product ID for Asus USB N10 Nano Rev. B1 to if_rtwn_usb(4).

Revision B1 of the Asus USB N10 Nano wireless adapter uses an RTL8188EUS
chipset instead of the RTL8188CUS chipset used in the original version of the
device and identifies itself using a different USB product ID (0x18f0). The
if_rtwn_usb(4) driver does not know about this USB product ID and therefore
does not recognize the device.

Attached patch adds the USB product ID of the Asus USB N10 Nano Rev. B1 to the
list of devices recognized by the if_rtwn_usb(4) driver.
