2010-10-11 Thread J.M. Maalderink

Follow-up Comment #3, patch #2045 (project freeciv):

Could you upload yours? Then we can combine both nationsets.

And that's a great find; I'll include some of the names in the Iberian and
Celtiberian nations.

It would also be great to have Lusitanian and Tartessian nations, but I don't
know if there are enough cities for those.

Re: [Freeciv-Dev] Tracker statuses (was Re: [bug #16767] fix tech tree after a tech was lost )

2010-10-11 Thread Matthias Pfafferodt
Yes, the additional time delay could be removed. One question to your version:

Am Sunday 10 October 2010 21:44:26 schrieb Jacob Nevins:
 ### start http://freeciv.wikia.com/wiki/Commit_rules proposal ###
When you start working on a ticket, ensure that it's assigned to
yourself and set the status to ''In Progress'' to avoid duplication of
effort. (Corollary: don't take others' ''In Progress'' tickets without
 asking.)

When a patch is ready, it must be posted to the bug tracker and the
ticket status set to ''Ready For Test''. Allow an adequate period of
time in this state for comments (minimum 36 hours).

If there are comments, the patch should be modified accordingly and
reposted by one of the interested parties. After reposting, the ticket
status should once again be set to ''Ready For Test'' and time allowed
for re-review (minimum 24 hours). Iterate.

What it the status between these two steps? If it is ''Ready For Test'' all
the time it will be hard to distinguish between both steps.

If there are no more issues, the patch may be committed and the ticket
 closed.

 Planned Release:

___

Details:

If root_req property has been defined for certain advance in a custom
ruleset, that advance will not be visible in research report (F6) until the
player has aquired the root_req tech. Also all future techs in the branch
limited by this root_req are missing. This would make sense if the root_req
was a non-researchable tech but it happens even if the root_req is a normally
achievable one.

All technologies that are achievable in normal manner (researched, traded,
stolen, hut) should be visible in the tech tree. Maybe some kind of
indication of the existing root_req would be nice?

Also, the help system for technologies will not handle root_req'd tech tree
properly. It cannot calculate the needed number of other techs nor amount of
bulbs. It seems to list all the right prerequisites but shows only '1' for
the count. (Should this be reported separately?)

Follow-up Comment #2, bug #16854 (project freeciv):

Well, there's game.info.nuke_contamination -- I think that's available on the
client, and fairly simple to test

I did consider removing all mention of Fallout if that's set to Pollution,
but I'm wary of that -- even if nukes can't generate fallout, scripts can,
can't they? If we were to do that, we'd probably want to conditionalise
helptext_unit() too. I don't think we attempt to conditionalise whether the
clean fallout order is displayed in menus etc either.

If I press on and start the game, it dies with a segfault, which looks like

Update of bug #16857 (project freeciv):

Summary: [trunk] Assertion failures + segfault with civ1
ruleset = [trunk] Assertion failures + segfault with civ1/civ2 rulesets

___

Follow-up Comment #1:

Actually I get the same thing with the civ2 ruleset too.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #16857] [trunk] Assertion failures + segfault with civ1/civ2 rulesets

2010-10-11 Thread Jacob Nevins

Follow-up Comment #2, bug #16857 (project freeciv):

The obvious fix is presumably just to add the Early Modern group to these
rulesets' nation.ruleset, but I haven't thought about whether that's the
right answer for strict civ1/civ2 compatibility, nor whether we should be
more robust against this sort of failure.

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #2056] Revisit autogenerated help for unit requirements

2010-10-11 Thread Jacob Nevins

URL:
  http://gna.org/patch/?2056

Summary: Revisit autogenerated help for unit requirements
 Project: Freeciv
Submitted by: jtn
Submitted on: Tuesday 10/12/10 at 00:36
Category: docs
Priority: 5 - Normal
  Status: Ready For Test
 Privacy: Public
 Assigned to: jtn

 Planned Release:

Details:

Several issues:
* When a unit-type flag or unit-class flag requirement is seen, the
autogenerated help displays the flags directly; but the flags don't mean
anything to users (they're not displayed in unit help), aren't translated,
etc. It would probably be better to list the unit types or classes that have
that flag (and hope there aren't too many).
* In particular, when a user unit type flag such as Airbase is a
requirement, the help prints (null) for it.
* Only applies to %s units isn't really the form of words I want for patch
#2049, where the requirement is the kind of unit required to *build* a base,
and not (for instance) a benefit received by a unit. The more generic
Requires %s is better for me and not obviously worse for other uses. (I
don't think this text currently appears with the supplied rulesets.)
(Also and hardly relatedly, UnitClassFlag isn't mentioned in
doc/README.effects.)
