[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #14089] wish: be able to automate worker tasks

2009-10-05 Thread anonymous

Follow-up Comment #2, bug #14089 (project freeciv):

This is just about the last stanca of the previous comment.

From years ago I remember that there where 2 ways to connect:

ctrl-r - connect considering costs
ctrl-shift-r - connect in a direct path

When building a road between 2 cities I would rather spend 5 more turns
building a road on a mountain than waste turns walking around it every time.

Unfortunately now there is only shift-r/l/i which does the cheapest thing.

I think we need the connect directly option back that ignores the costs and
just builds the shortest (in tiles) path.
Currently one has to build a road/rail in a straight line by setting multiple
way points, worst case one per tile or the worker will divert of course.

PS: I would also like to restrict auto workers to certain jobs. Esspecially I
would like to single out 5 engineers and set them to only clean polution (or
idly wait for more).

Details:

The AI units have their workers/engineers perform repeatative but useful
tasks.

I would like a command to set my own workers to
(a) make roads on my territory wherever possible,
(b) make rails on my territory wherever possible,
(c) connect all my cities with roads or rail,
(d) make irrigation wherever possible, and
(e) make mines wherever possible.

Obviously these should all be different commands, and some sort of rule would
need to be worked out for situations where there is a conflict (for instance
where mines and irrigation are both possible). Currently it is rather dull
to perform tasks like cover your entire nation with railroad, because you can
only set an engineer to work on two squares at a time (otherwise it will
optimize using existing rail).

Follow-up Comment #1, bug #14089 (project freeciv):

I think that a worklist for workers (and engineers) would be the best
solution, to allow you to set the next tiles to work on and what to do to
them, one by one. That way you can set your workers once and let them do
their thing.

Also, a pollution-cleaning mode would be useful too...
