The browser is in core.exe, filemanager in wwwman.exe and insight.exe
(formerly mailman.exe) handles email.
I agree on simplifying the code, Ray has done a great job on this and
has reduced the code but still keep most of the functionality (XT and
CGA support are two things his port has dropped that very few people
use). Unfortunately due to time contraints from almost all of the
developers little else is happening.

Arachne has GPL license so you can force WebSpyder/Lineo to
make their Arachne modifications public.

No, them have purchased a proprietary license from the copyright holders
(original developers). GPL doesn't surrender rights. It's dual licensing
like with Qt.

Additionally Arachne wasn't GPLed when Michael Polak sold the code to
Caldera (who released DR-Webspyder) or Suntech. Orignally if you wanted
to get a hold of the source code you would need to sign a NDA and sent
it to Michael. I did so after I told Michael I had copied his code (I
still have an account at arachne.cz BTW), which influenced him to later
release it as GPL.

Instead of requiring that the freeDOS developers understand mime.cfg
I'll make a more simplified command:
copy infile directory\*.htm outfile

An easy solution would of course be to add the mentioned cat.exe into
the Arachne distribution(s) but it would also be nice if this could be
fixed in freecom.

OK, but how should a newbie know this?

That is how DOS works. Always has.

*I* know, but I'm talking about a newbie trying FreeDOS
in QEMU or another VM.

Why does the newbie use DOS when he has no idea what DOS is?
He will get stuck because there is no button to klick anyway.

I agree about Eric on this. Besides both Windows XP, Vista and most
Linux distros IIRC do an orderly shutdown or ask if you really want to
shutdown when you press the button. I guess a newbie using DOS on a
physical computer is more likely to just press the power button than
typing "halt". Inside a virtual machine he or she will probably close
the VM down in whatever fashion is common in the users OS. On the other
hand a newbie who has run Linux before might try "halt" or "shutdown",
but I wonder if a Linux user does it that way in Windows as well
(shutdown is available in, atleast, the Windows NT family). To some
extent the user needs to actually want to learn the new OS - why else
use it?

Just to let you know, Michaels webpage is up and running again so I've

[Freedos-devel] Maintainer of p7zip?

2008-08-19 Thread Bernhard Eriksson
Hi

I've been trying to get a hold of Michael Kostylev, but unfortunately
sending a mail to mik at niipt dot ru fails. I can't access his website
either, and when I asked Jim Hall he pointed me to the list. Does anyone
know of a different email for Michael or some other way to contact him?
Or perhaps his still around reading this very mail under a different
email? the reason I ask is that there's a new version of p7zip out, but
it's not compiled for DOS yet. Seeing as Michael is the current
maintainer I would just like to inform him that there's a new version
out. If we can't get a hold of Michael we need a new maintainer.
