[Freedos-user] New FreeDOSers Monthly Reminder
/* This is an automated message sent out on the 1st of each month. It is automagically downloaded from http://freedos.sourceforge.net/freedos/lists/remind.txt */ MONTHLY REMINDER FOR THE FREEDOS MAILING LIST Hi! If you are a new reader of freedos-devel (or the other FreeDOS lists) then, welcome! If you have already been a list member for some time, then you can skip this as you probably are familiar with its content anyway. We have only a few rules for posting to the FreeDOS Mailing list: 1. Please don't swear. We don't want this mailing list to become what USENET usually is. 2. Don't post off-topic. Remember, we set up this mailing list to discuss FreeDOS issues. 3. No flame wars. If you feel really strongly against what someone has said, send a private email. It would also be nice to send only plain text email messages, rather than messages formatted in html or MIME encapsulation. This makes it easier for everyone to read your posts. Above all, html files are real killers for those who read with speech. Also provide a bit of context for your reply. Don't be afraid to cite the text or conversation you are replying to. At the same time, you should be careful not to cite the whole conversation - just the relavent bits. The FreeDOS Project aims to create a free implementation of MS-DOS. DOS is a popular system, and there is plenty of hardware out there that supports DOS. The official home of the FreeDOS Project is: http://www.freedos.org/ Visit the FreeDOS Documentation Project (FD-DOC) at fd-doc.sourceforge.net to learn how to use FreeDOS. Would you like to contribute to the FreeDOS Project? Jim Hall has started a Contribution HOWTO, as a place to start. Look for it at the FD-DOC web site. Report problems to bugzilla at http://www.freedos.org/freedos/bugs/ Many programs have already been written for the FreeDOS Project. Of course. The main two vector (SVG-enabled) software for Linux are Inkscape (the one which I prefer, and which I am using), and Karbon. You will find the last Inkscape version at http://www.inkscape.org. Best regards, Mateusz Viste - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. Still grepping through log files to find problems? Mateusz, I actually used your SVG-file but I can't find out how to save it as SVG from the Gimp which is the software I am using. I can only save the file in different bitmapped versions, gif, png, jpeg etc. If you have any idea of another software I can use I'd be happy to create the glossy version and export it as a SVG. rikard_lang - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. Thanks for the kind words. Actually the background is transparent however I've added a white background to the picture and it can be found here: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y110/rixard/blinkyglossy_wbg.png rikard_lang On 8/31/07, Aitor Santamaría <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Looks good! No it does not - actually the border IS black and the background is transparent :-D. Just view the blinkyglossy with ImageMagick or another transparency-aware viewer. When using it on a web page, put it on white or light background. Maybe it would be nice to have an index html on i4.photobucket.com/albums/y110/rixard/ ... Cool to have a glossy version of the FreeDOS fish, thanks! :-) I think Rugxulo should use the glossy blinky as basis for a sample JPG and PNG file if he has viewers for that on his new diskette distro :-) Eric - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. Curious, I thought that the DOS will only point C: to the > first primary found? All labels are unique and contain the drive letter. Do you consider DOS, W2K and Warp4 to be obscure? Also every partition has a directory of the form "1_Name_X" where X is the drive letter. The one forces it to sort at the top. So from any HDD utility or directory listing I know the physical position of each partition. I have an additional challenge. All my HDDs are front panel plug-in. So I have to give each HDD a unique ID that is seen by HDD utilities. If I was cloning or cleaning a drive and got it reversed that would not be good. I have had a HDD utility swap drives 1 and 2 on it's display. That is rare, but it did happen. Ray - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. Still grepping through log files to find problems? On this drive D and E get swapped. If I plug in the second HDD - which is a single extended - D is after that. So, I have first primary; C, then all extended, then second primary; D - ignoring the primaries that are Boot Manager and the extended shells. And Boot Manager is inert, C is active. Re: [Freedos-user] I've created a glossy version of Blinky
Looks good! It's nice to see a 3D version of the logo. Just one thing: I've seen the main logo in the site and noticed that its border, as much as it's mouth, is black. In your picture, the background is also black, so it mixes with the border. Could you please create another one over, say, white background, where the black border can be easily differenciated? Re: [Freedos-user] Partition layout
Hi, maybe it is useful to try SYS CONFIG to switch the DLASORT option to 0 or 1. Please read the docs, to be more exact, the config.txt file :-) Probably still does not behave as DR DOS, but I do remember that DLASORT is there because some people were not happy with the "behave as MS DOS" default ;-). Eric This option is for specifying whether Drive Letter Assignment should follow the normal MSDOS way of all primary partitions across drives and then extended partitions, or the more logical all partitions (primary & extended) on the 1st drive, then repeat for all following drives (all primary & extended, then try next drive). 0 corresponds to MS way and 1 corresponds to first drive completely, then next ... - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
