None Stop timer?

2004-09-03 Thread sarky

Just wondering is there a way of when a user is restricted to 2 hours browsing time,
the account expires after 2 hours from the time the user logs in?

for example:

User logs in at 1:00pm and logs off at 1:30pmthen he tries to logon again at 3:01
the account will have expired. that is a requirement of a hotel.

Thank you

Hi Chalie

What you said below makes a lot of sense but considering i dont know
where to start to get to produce a script like that.
Do you have anything which does that if not can you give me some hints.

If you're issuing a scratch type ticket I'm assuming it has a
username and password on it. So you should already have those
users in your database. If your accounting is working right, you
could run a nightly query to see what accounts don't have an
expiration and then if those accounts have ever logged in. If
they've logged in and don't have an expiration, set the expiration
for 30 days from the initial login.

Re: Advice on remote radius server.

2004-07-28 Thread sarky
So from what you are saying it is best to get the authentication done remotely.
what does proxy setting do? would that be able to play apart in this setup ?

thanks

Sarky

You could do that, but that means distributing the user database.
 Not a good idea.

If the satellite link is too clogged to handle RADIUS packets, it's
too clogged to handle *any* network traffic. And there shouldn't
be more than 10-20 RADIUS packets a second from any POP, at MOST,
which is a tiny amount of bandwidtj.

Advice on remote radius server.

2004-07-27 Thread sarky
Hi everyone

Right i have a Satellite link which has a 550ms delay from the world, and i am running
an internal radius server but due to the fact that i want to have more than one pop I
want to localize the radius server and maybe have a local one on each site, that will
save lookup over the satlink which could be clogged up or something of that nature.

Any advice on how to do it ?

Thank you

You are actually describing the functionality of dialupadmin? Why
are you asking for a replacement instead of just adding this
 capability to dialupadmin?

Anyway, after i 've finished with my security audit of dialupadmin
i 'll add that functionality. If you care you can use it.

 1. It never stoped. Have you looked in the Changelog, or in the
 dialupadmin CVS?

 2. I don't remember ever seeing an email asking for such a feature

You can save it as a .CSV file (using file-save as...) in excel,
 and
then make a script using your favorite language or use phpmyadmin to
 import it into mysql.

You may also be able to import directly using the MySQL ODBC driver
that allows MS Office to exchange data with it IIRC.

 Hope this helps,

If you are registered to freeradius mailing list, you should have
received my patches for the checkrad program. Please apply that patch to
freeradius before compilation, then you can use SNMP or Perl-Telnet to
control this one user situation. But the patch only works up to 1 user
limit. If you want to limit your users to 2, then you are in trouble.
But 1 works fine! This is because I cant get which port the user is
connected to from mikrotik. At least mikrotik gives a port number to
Radius but there is no way to get the same number for the same user with
 snmp or telnet.

You should set naspasswd, clients.conf files and uncomment a line in
sql.conf about simultaneous-use counts. You need net-snmp installed or
p5-Net-Telnet. If you get stuck, then you can ask me more :) But please
dont ask for step by step instructions. I think most of the things are
self explanatory. But you could write a step by step dokument for making
Freeradius user check work with mikrotik and send to mikrotik guys,
maybe they would include in their documentation and you might get a free
license for your work :) Mikrotik guys say that they sometimes give free
licenses for this kind of things. But then the other main point is that
you will become famous etc :)

I also would suggest you to force freeradius developers to patch the
freeradius distribution. This is essential, because I am not going to
send this patch to people one by one. (Perhaps you can find from
 freeradius mailing lists though).

If you dont know what is checkrad program, then please learn it first.
You will find the information of why we need this program very useful
 and educating.
