But just wanted to know from >the experts. > >Thanks, >Ashish > OK. I'm done with flaming, let's go over thing you can and can't do: - you can store enable passwords on the radius server instead of locally - you can't use radius and not use machine-specific enable password [av>"(not with enable password)"] - you can use radius as a single step authentication method to give users access to privileged mode directly by returning priv-lvl attribute in their profile (leave out priv-lvl attribute if you don't want them to have privileged access) - you can't use single authetication method and have different passwords for different access levels *unless* enable password is machine-specific (ie. same one for all users) - if you different passwords for user and prevelege modes you will need to use two different authentication methods (radius and tacacs+): aaa authentication login default group radius aaa authentication enable default group tacacs+ Now user will log onto the device with his radius password and he will be prompted for username/password by tacacs when he types enable. I don't think that you can use authorization (aaa authorization exec ...) in this scenario. You have to return priv-lvl 15 for enable to gain privileged access but that authorization will be passed onto login users as well (you cant split user exec and privileged exec authorization, at least I don't know a way) giving them privileged access straight away and defeating the second level authentication. And I can't predict how well would things work without authorization. My guess is that they will but you won't be able to return any parameters to the user (no privilege or command restrictions etc.). Ivan Kalik Kalik Informatika ISP - List info/subscribe/unsubscribe? Radius was set up prior to me. I am sure I will get a lot of help from here when the docs are not specific to my issue. I am using Sun One DS 5.2 as my authentication source and freeradius-0.8-1 on RH Linux. I did not extend the schema to included the radius object class. How can I properly deny certain users or groups from being able to dial in and establish PPP sessions? I am a little confused after reading http://www.freeradius.org/radiusd/doc/rlm_ldap and http://www.freeradius.org/faq/#5.2. This is my users file - stxlibPassword == "**" Service-Type == Login-User, Login-IP-Host == hostname, Login-Service == Telnet, Login-TCP-Port == 23 DEFAULT Auth-Type := LDAP, Prefix == "P", Strip-User-Name == Yes Service-Type = Framed-User, Framed-Protocol = PPP, Framed-IP-Address = 255.255.255.254, Framed-Routing = None, Framed-MTU = 1500, Session-Timeout := 14400, Idle-Timeout := 900, Fall-Through = Yes and the portion of my radius.conf that I think is relevant - modules { pam { # pam_auth = radiusd pam_auth = system-auth } ldap { server = "ahost" #port = 636 port = 389 # identity = "cn=admin,o=My Org,c=UA" # password = mypass basedn = "dc=uvi,dc=edu" filter = "(uid=%u)" # set this to 'yes' to use TLS encrypted connections # to the LDAP database. start_tls = no # default_profile = "cn=radprofile,ou=dialup,o=My Org,c=UA" # profile_attribute = "radiusProfileDn" access_group = "cn=DialupUsers,ou=DialUsers,o=uvi.edu" #access_attr = "dialupAccess" # Mapping of RADIUS dictionary attributes to LDAP # directory attributes. #dictionary_mapping = ${raddbdir}/ldap.attrmap # ldap_cache_timeout = 120 # ldap_cache_size = 0 ldap_connections_number = 5 # password_header = "{clear}" # password_attribute = userPassword # Next 2 lines uncommented 20 Mar 2003 -jrl groupname_attribute = cn groupmembership_filter = "(|(&(objectClass=GroupOfNames)(member=%{Ldap-UserDn}))(&(objectClass=GroupO fUniqueNames)(uniquemember=%{Ldap-UserDn})))" timeout = 4 timelimit = 3 net_timeout = 1 # compare_check_items = yes # access_attr_used_for_allow = yes } # Livingston-style 'users' file # files { usersfile = ${confdir}/users acctusersfile = ${confdir}/acct_users compat = no } detail { detailfile = ${radacctdir}/%{Framed-IP-Address}/detail detailperm = 0600 } Thanks for your help Wesley Joyce "If you can't explain it simply, then you don't know it well enough. - Unknown." - List info/subscribe/unsubscribe? (any examples on how to set up the Session-Timeout attribute?) Either run the server debug or use a radius sniffer. As for examples it depends on your user database (flat files, sql, ldap etc). For the users file: user Service-Type == Framed-User,Framed-Protocol == PPP Session-Timeout = 14400 Service-Type = Framed-User 2) when a request came in, sometimes I found that there are multiple records in the radacct table with same "AcctSessionId" and "AcctUniqueId"; what is the reason to cause that and what will be the solution for it. Your database is slow, so the accounting packets the NAS sends to your radius server, timeout. In the mean time the radius server has been able to store the accounting record so you end up with duplicate records. The answer is to fix your database and maybe enlarge your nas radius timeout. When I understood things right, the "accounting_update_query_alt" should come into action when "accounting_update_query" fails because no start-record was ever inserted, right ? However, if I'm right ;) when the start-record gets recorded, accounting including updates works fine, but when the according row is missing in table radacct (due to the start-record got lost or accounting started after the session was created - ok, this is really uncommon) then "accounting_update_query_alt" doens't kick in. >From what I understood the problem lies in rlm_sql not reporting an error somehow when the update fails; complete debug-output from one update and the stop-record below (both with changed IP's. The stop-record finally creates a row in radacct, so "accounting_stop_query_alt" works fine. As soon as the according start-entry in table radacct exists also the update work fine, but I thought of this as a way to recover missing accounting packets to at least have the updates creating records when the start goes wrong. regards Michael --- cut acct-update --- rad_recv: Accounting-Request packet from host 1.2.3.46:1646, id=208, length=226 Acct-Session-Id = "0012" Cisco-AVPair = "isakmp-group-id=grpname" Framed-IP-Address = 1.2.3.36 Cisco-AVPair = "isakmp-initator-ip=3.2.1.10" User-Name = "username" Cisco-AVPair = "connect-progress=Auth Open" Acct-Session-Time = 10785 Acct-Input-Octets = 1303176 Acct-Output-Octets = 1219984 Acct-Input-Packets = 10839 Acct-Output-Packets = 10839 Acct-Authentic = RADIUS Acct-Status-Type = Alive Cisco-NAS-Port = "Dialer1" NAS-Port = 1 NAS-IP-Address = 1.2.3.46 Acct-Delay-Time = 0 rad_lowerpair: User-Name now 'username' Processing the preacct section of radiusd.conf modcall: entering group preacct for request 36 modcall[preacct]: module "preprocess" returns noop for request 36 rlm_realm: No '#' in User-Name = "username", looking up realm NULL rlm_realm: No such realm "NULL" modcall[preacct]: module "realmhash" returns noop for request 36 rlm_realm: No '@' in User-Name = "username", looking up realm NULL rlm_realm: No such realm "NULL" modcall[preacct]: module "suffix" returns noop for request 36 modcall[preacct]: module "files" returns noop for request 36 modcall: group preacct returns noop for request 36 Processing the accounting section of radiusd.conf modcall: entering group accounting for request 36 rlm_acct_unique: Hashing 'NAS-Port = 1,Client-IP-Address = 1.2.3.46,NAS-IP-Address = 1.2.3.46,Acct-Session-Id = "0012",User-Name = "username"' rlm_acct_unique: Acct-Unique-Session-ID = "f13ebac0de4ea35c". modcall[accounting]: module "acct_unique" returns ok for request 36 radius_xlat: '/var/log/freeradius/radacct/1.2.3.46/detail-20040517' rlm_detail: /var/log/freeradius/radacct/%{Client-IP-Address}/detail-%Y%m%d expands to /var/log/freeradius/radacct/1.2.3.46/detail-20040517 modcall[accounting]: module "detail" returns ok for request 36 modcall[accounting]: module "unix" returns noop for request 36 radius_xlat: 'username' rlm_sql (sql): sql_set_user escaped user --> 'username' radius_xlat: 'UPDATE radacct ?
