Re: [Freesurfer] license file not working

Hi Philipp,

Okay interesting. So it's failing on centos 8. Do you mind sending the license
file directly to my email (off-list)?

thanks
Andrew

Can you let us know the OS and version you’re running on? The license format

Hi FreeSurfer specalists,

for some historical reconstruction I had to download an old FS5.3-Version,

on a Linux System, untarred etc. - it seems there was no .license = hidden
license

file coming with the download, and no license.txt file.

I requested one (usual link) and received a license.txt file, and put that

into the FS home folder. When using the command mri_convert I get the

error message that an invalid License file is used.

Questions:

(1) Is a .license file (so, a hidden file) needed for itself or in addition?

(2) Why does a freshly delivered license.txt file not work?

(3) Any other solutions or ideas?

Hi Expets,

I am trying to work with the Ciftify package, a great tool for converting

However, I get an error with the return code 255

cmd: mri_convert /data/PPT_1x/mri/T1.mgz /out/PPT_1x/T1w/T1w.nii.gz
 Failed with returncode 255

At the bottom of the ciftify recon-all log it says the below. However, I
downloaded the license as advised, placed it in the correct directory
(usr/local/freesurfer). I have also added the path to the license to my bashrc.
Have you seen this type of error before?

Andrew,

Thank you for suggesting that. Turns out that's exactly what seems to have been
the problem. Renamed the .license file and now things seem to be working. Not
sure why there was even a .license file there, as I've been using license.txt
as directed in the installation instructions and email with the license code,
but oh well.

Hi Mike,

Is it possible that freesurfer is reading the wrong license file? What are you
naming the new license as? FS could be reading a hidden “.license” file in
FREESURFER_HOME instead.

2017-11-29 Thread Ritobrato Datta
Hi All,

I am using Mac OS X Sierra and I downloaded free surfer 6 and when running
recon I am getting the following error

reading from IM-0001-0001.dcm...

--

ERROR: Invalid FreeSurfer license key found in license file
/Applications/freesurfer6/.license

If you are outside the NMR-Martinos Center,

  go to http://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/registration.html to

get a valid license file (it's free).

If you are inside the NMR-Martinos Center,

make sure to source the standard environment.

The license.txt file is a valid license file and the permissions are set as
follows

Can you please suggest what seems to be the problem ?

Thanks

Hello,

I got it running. I just deleted all old license files, resent the the
registration. When I got the email I created both a .license and a
license.txt in $Freesurfer_Home, and it worked. Just one of those things
I guess?

Re: [Freesurfer] Kind Request - Trouble with FreeSurfer LICENSE file

2017-02-03 Thread Z K
The LICENSE file contained in the freesurfer release is a Software
License Agreement and has nothing to do with the license file required
to run the freesurfer program.

To get a license file, please go to our registration page and a license
will be emailed to you. Just copy the correct portion of text into a
file called .license or license.txt and place it into your
FREESURFER_HOME directory. Hope this helps.

I am currently unable to successfuly register my copy of FreeSurfer with the

Hi Matt

just to clarify - our old license format stopped working with newer
versions of libcrypt and so we were forced to change to the new format. It
was not done gratuitously on our part or as a way to get people to request
new licenses - we had no choice.

Anthony,

Is this still an issue for you? So long as there is a license file (name
.license or license.txt) in the FREESURFER_HOME directory, you should be
all set.

Thanks Matt. I already tried it with a new registration, but it doesn't
hurt to try it again. That may be where the issue is. I'll post if that
turns out to be the problem. Thanks!

Hello,

I have used my old file, registered under two different emails (and
received the code and made new files each time, named both .license
and license.txt). Restarted the computer etc. I am wondering if it is
a permissions issue. It seems to be finding the file where I put it.
Have never encountered this issue and have been using Freesurfer for
11 years. If history is any guide, it will probably turn out to be
something stupid that I did :)

2017-02-02 Thread Anthony Dick
Hello,

I have been using Freesurfer for a number of years, and just installed
v6.0. I run into this problem:

[Freesurfer] license file problem solved

2014-08-30 Thread Philipp G. Sämann
Hi all,

the license file problem I have described earlier today could be solved
by following earlier hints on a workaround, mainly in the following two
contributions:

https://www.mail-archive.com/freesurfer@nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/msg29404.html

https://www.mail-archive.com/freesurfer@nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/msg29433.html

It turned out to be the same problem: by an update of the SuSe system
(from an old
system 11.x to 13.x), the libcrypt.so.1 tool could not be used any more.
Copying an
old version (of an old SuSe system) to the freesurfer/lib folder, linking
it and adding
the folder to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH worked out...

I think the problem should be pointed out in the installation
instructions. The error
message (I am not a sys admin...) that the license file is not valid was
very misleading.

Best wishes,
Philipp

I am stuck with a license error in that freesurfer (after a simple
recon-all call for segmentation) continues to interrupt the process soon
after starting it, see complete copy of the error log file below.

I have freshly installed Freesurfer FROM SCRATCH and applied for a new
licence file which lies at the appropriate location.

What does "INVALID LICENSE FILE" actually indicate, how can the file be
invalid?

What can be done and why does the programm run absolutely smoothly on
another Linux-64-bit system??

vG Philipp

Re: [Freesurfer] license file not working

2014-08-01 Thread Saemann Philipp
Hello Douglas,

the file created on Linux, no Windows involved, and was 100% identical
to the old license file that was successfully used for some time.

Do I need a new download?

Thanks,
Philipp

[Freesurfer] license file not working

2014-08-01 Thread Saemann Philipp
Hello users or support team,

after using FS successfully for some time, now, after
a trivial command such as

mri_convert -it analyze T1.img -ot mgz 001.mgz

an error appears as follows:

$Id: mri_convert.c,v 1.179.2.7 2012/09/05 21:55:16 mreuter Exp $
reading from T1.img...
--
ERROR: Invalid FreeSurfer license key found in license file

If you are outside the NMR-Martinos Center,
  go to http://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu to
get a valid license file (it's free).
If you are inside the NMR-Martinos Center,
make sure to source the standard environment.
--

I re-applied for a license file which was the EXACT one I already had at
the specified location, and it still does produce the error message.

What makes this licence "invalid" here? Is there some problem with
C-compiler versions? (though I would not this should appear right now)

Thanks for any ideas,

It means you don't have write permissions in the directory. You should
invoke pico like

[Freesurfer] '.license' file

2008-02-19 Thread Henrique Fernandes

The installation was successful!

I have created the file in 'pico', as Nick Schmansky told me to do,
and fortunately the file '.license' was successfully created.

Thank you all for your kind attention,

Regards,

Henrique Fernandes

You should call the file ".license". Then it will work. The file will be
invisible to your in unix unless you search for it with "ls -a".

Try using pico to create the file, like this:

  pico $FREESURFER_HOME/.license

(paste three lines of license file and press Ctrl-X to save).

[Freesurfer] ".license" file

2008-02-19 Thread Henrique Fernandes

Thanks for the suggestions,

I'm now having another problem. I created a .license file with the
information about my license. Although, to keep the file stored I must
have a name for it other else the system won't allow me to create that
file. So, after giving a random name to the file, during the test for
installation I received an error message like the one above:

--
ERROR: FreeSurfer license file /Applications/freesurfer/.license not
found.

If you are outside the NMR-Martinos Center,
  go to http://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu to
get a valid license file (it's free).
If you are inside the NMR-Martinos Center,
make sure to source the standard environment.
--

How should I create the file .license? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance fot he help,

Regards

Frederick,

Please follow this link to register:

I've fixed to wiki page to point to this one. I'm not sure why the
'http' link recently is failing, but in any case, you should be able to
get a key now. Sorry for the trouble.

Hi,

I have difficulties registering and obtaining a
license file.
On the page:
https://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/fswiki/Registration
clicking on the link:
"Follow this link to obtain a license key"
http://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu:631/printersregistration.html

gives me an access denied message.
