Re: [Freevo-users] debian testing dependecies

2003-10-14 Thread skeeterskip
well, you can type apt-get install packagename to install packages. Then it
auto-installs all the dependencies with it. Isn't that how Debian works?

hmm. I copied local_config.py file to etc/freevo and root/.freevo/ Even
though both files are same, I get following after I type freevo:

Error: your local_config.py file has no version information
Please check freevo_config.py for changes and set CONFIG_VERSION
in /root/.freevo/local_conf.py to 3.9

Oh! The 1.4-rc1 freevo-src package puts freevo_config.py in XXX. You
shouldn't touch it. It's no longer needed in /etc/freevo and shouldn't be
there at all.

/etc/freevo should contain only freevo.conf, local_conf.py and boot_config
(if freevo-src-boot package is installed). This list doesn't include any
backup files created in the process of upgrading etc of course.

There's a sample local_conf.py in /usr/share/doc/freevo*/.

Re: [Freevo-users] new freevo

2003-10-14 Thread skeeterskip
Here is copy of var/log/freevo

Freevo start at Sat Nov 15 08:35:46 2003

---

Error: local_conf.py not found

Freevo is not completely configured to start
The configuration is based on three files. This may sound oversized, but
this
way it's easier to configure.

First Freevo loads a file called 'freevo.conf'. This file will be generated
by
calling 'freevo setup'. Use 'freevo setup --help' to get information
about the parameter. Based on the informations in that file, Freevo will
guess
some settings for your system. This takes place in a file called
'freevo_config.py'. Since this file may change from time to time, you should
not edit this file. After freevo_config.py is loaded, Freevo will look for a
file
called 'local_conf.py'. You can overwrite the variables from
'freevo_config.py'
in here. There is an example for 'local_conf.py' called
'local_conf.py.example'
in the Freevo distribution.

If you need more help, use the internal webserver to get more informations
how to setup Freevo. To do this, you need to set
WWW_USERS = { 'username' : 'password' }
in your local_conf.py and then you can access the doc at
http://localhost:8080/help/

The location of freevo_config.py is
/usr/bin/../share/freevo/freevo_config.py
Freevo searches for freevo.conf and local_conf.py in the following
locations:
  .
  /root/.freevo
  /etc/freevo

Since it's highly unlikly you want to start Freevo without further
configuration, Freevo will exit now.

I get the same error in Redhat 9. I copied freevo_config to etc/freevo and
root/.freevo directories. I then got message saying that it should be
local_conf instead. So, I'm looking for a local_conf.py file but can't find
it anywhere in files freevo installed. I just renamed freevo_conf.py to
local_conf.py but that didn't seem to fix it.

I know how to edit local_conf file, but would like something to work with.
Does anyone know where I can get example of this file to work with?

Re: [Freevo-users] debian testing dependecies

2003-10-14 Thread Aubin Paul
The problem is mainly that we have limited storage space on the
Sourceforge server. I can put up the diffs, but you'd have to fetch
the source packages from elsewhere.

In quite a few cases, the packages include the debian/ build rules, so
it should be easy to get the upstream and build them. Offhand, I know
that mmpython, pylirc and freevo itself have them.

python2.3-fchksum is available from the maintainer as a deb too.
(google for python2.3-fchksum)

The missing packages (for which I can provide diffs) are mp1e, and
pylcd.

Any idea on how I can add them to the freevo list?

[Freevo-users] debian testing dependecies

2003-10-14 Thread Juha
Hello All,

I guess this question is mostly to Aubin. Would it be possible to
provide the debian source packages in addition to the debian unstable
binaries that can currently be found on

http://freevo.sourceforge.net/debian unstable main
(ie. deb-src http://freevo.sourceforge.net/debian unstable main)

This way I could build the packages easily for my testing/unstable
debian installation. The dependencies in the pre-built packages makes
them very hard to install them on my installation.

Thanks,

Juha

I would like for this sort of thing to be handled automatically without
anyone having to create special files for each movie on the server...
And I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting such a feature...
Will look into setting up fxd files though... might create som sort of
shell script to do it and share it if anyone is interested...

I have freevo+linux installed in 60 meg of space, eventually to be loaded
into a ram drive partition. freevo and it's assorted items and only samba
are running.. everything else is turned off (or just not there in my custom
linux setup for this machine)

it's working great without a swap partition, and I simply did not figure
that freevo wanted some freespace when running oops!

You should _never_ use one partition for everything. Not only Freevo
needs free space in /tmp and /var.

You press a key. It get's to the eventhandler. In case of a menu, the
menu builds a list of items to display and calls the skin. Only the
skin code knows where an item is displayed. So when the eventhandler
gets 'mouse press 100x100', it doesn't know what's displayed there.

[Freevo-users] Regarding playback of various aspect ratios..

2003-10-14 Thread Ole Andre Schistad
'Lo all,

Have been using freevo for a while but haven't been paying proper
attention to the list for a while. The subject I'm enquiring about may
therefore already have been discussed, but anyway here goes.

Has anyone implemented a practical way of handing all the various source
aspect ratios in the freevo sourcetree yet? This may be a non-issue for
most or it may be a common gripe, but personally I find it very
dissatisfying to watch for instance a 2.35 letterboxed movie played back
on my 16:9 widescreen with 30% streching horizontally and 30% less
screen estate vertically than the proper playback mode. Some TVs do
correct this automatically (semi-intelligently) but mine isn't one of
those unfortunately.

I do of course realise that it's almost impossible to recognize the
proper aspect ratio within freevo - many of the formats being used
haven't even got a field for this value - what I'm looking for (or
asking for? one can always hope..) is a python script that will either
read a predefined aspec ratio from a supplied dotfile or whatnot or by a
keypress on the remote or keyboard that will feed mplayer with the
correct parameter.

Whilst experimenting on my own I've found that you get excellent results
with mplayer by cropping the source frame vertically and then stretching
it back to full size, using the builtin resize filter that does a pretty
good job of interpolating the missing lines. There are really only a few
possible combos of source aspect and letterboxing, so a predefined list
of parameters to feed mplayer would be just fine, as long as there was a
way of easily doing this during or before playback.

Does anyone have a good take on this particular problem they'd like to
share?

Cheers,

Ole Andre

RE: [Freevo-users] Re: Cover art plugin

2003-10-14 Thread Michael Ruelle
Actaully not so dumb. I think maybe we should use the mmpython info the
cdbackup plugin has to detect if the cover art exists in the disc cache
and copy it over when ripping the CD. It should be doable. Sounds like a
feature enhancement to send to the cdbackup plugin maintainer.

I think you're donig this the wrong way. First rip the CD, then search
for CD cover from the ripped cds' directory. The CD cover will then be
stored in that directory as cover.jpg.

Sorry, I can't reproduce the bug. You say the second time you select
something, you get the player screen again, pressing DISPLAY shows a

[Freevo-users] Feature Request

2003-10-14 Thread Morten Nilsen
Hi, I have a few requests for the navigation interface in freevo;

1) Random playlist should include subfolders

2) Random playlist of video files (for playing music videos in a
   randomized way)

3) Automatic playing of *XofY.* as a single movie, where X and Y are
numbers f.ex: Some Random Movie 1of3, 2of3 and 3of3.avi would be
shown as Some Random Movie with the playtime added up from all
   parts...
As a bonus, one might do the same for cdX, but that won't be as
reliable, as you don't have any feedback at all as to how many files
   there should be.

While I'm here I'd like to report a possible bug... I have mounted my
server through nfs, when freevo tries to play an unavailable file, it
crashes (symlink pointing at nowhere in my case)

Cheers,

[Freevo-users] 1.4-rc1: dxr3 and image viewer, can't load image error results to unusable freevo with lirc control

2003-10-14 Thread Thomas Kranz
Hello,

A little inconvenient problem:
Starting the Image Viewer and loading a corrupted jpg (eg) image
starts the freevo error dialog box: can't load image ... (waiting for press ok)

With dxr3 and lirc, there is no chance to confirm this and get back
to freevo (or am I wrong ?). Keyboard control seems to be deactivated what makes
sense to me. Must I configure a special lirc button for confirm or is it an real error
?

thanks,
Thomas Kranz

My freevo:
1.4-rc1:
Matrox G400, dxr3 (HW+),Hauppauge Wintv
Realmagic Remote Control
Athlon XP1700, Gigabyte VKML-Board
HD:80G, 120G, 160G (Seagate,Samsung (real quite))

tested outputs: mga (fb console), dxr3 and xv (x11)
tested additional plugins:
webradio, idlebar,headlines

No major problems found so far, but for me the osd font is too big,
still waiting for a better skin (TV Guide and Headline plugins are unusable).
maybe it's a simple line in the skin config to scale the font down but
more skins were be fine to have but I'm not a great skin designer - so
volunteers go ahead

ps: my posting yesterday to freevo-devel wasn't published, so maybe it was the wrong
list -
sorry for that in hope to get an answer now, thanks

Oops, maybe I forgot this file. As for the ogg vorbis stuff: the
current Freevo version doesn't need it anymore. It was used to parse
the tags, mmpython is doing this now.

twisted is the webserver. The server can also be used as a way to
display the docs, later to do the configuration. It's not only for
recording, it is (and will be) more than that.

[Freevo-users] webserver TV Guid problem

2003-10-14 Thread Ryan
I'm getting errors when I try to load the TV guide off the webserver. I
have made a copy of the error and you can see it here:

http://wwwcsif.cs.ucdavis.edu/~detert/guide.rpy.html

It looks like it doesn't like the international characters off of the
spanish channel. I have since reconfigured the tv_grab_na to not
retrieve the spanish channel but still the same error.

Any help would be great.
