How much memory is it using? On my Freevo box, X uses 5MB RSS.

[Freevo-users] tuning a freevo-box | x11 vs. fb

2006-01-09 Thread Bjoern Franke
Hello,

I run freevo since 2 years on a P3 450 with 256MB RAM and a gf2mx400.
The box is connected via composite to my TV and runs debian sid.
Recording TV and watching DVDs works fine, but sometimes the machine
slows down because it swaps around. A memory upgrade is not possible
because the mobo does not support more than 256MB.

Perhaps I should use a framebuffer device instead of x11 because x11
needs a lot of memory?

I searched in the mailinglist-archive and found some mails about using
a framebuffer-device on a gf2. I tried to activate it (vga=0x735
video=rivafb:ywrap) but only got a blue screen. It remained black
after starting freevo.

Has anyone success running freevo with framebuffer on a gf2mx?

TIA
bjo

I did a quick write up about it not too long ago: http://freevohelp.com/lcd.html

It is the Crystalfontz 634 LCD.

Hi.

I am using both the usb plugin and a normal directory. The second option works
fine and I could use it as my only option, but like this, the usb device
doesn't automagically appear when it is plugged in. You have to exit a menu
and enter again if you want to update it. The usb plugin works fine in this,
so I'd like the best of both ways.

This is a simple metoo reply.

None of the patches John described worked for me.
Have the impression this is specific on python 2.4 acting different then
python 2.3

I have a hauppage MCE 500 working under linux on a epia motherboard.
(using epios: gentoo derivative for epia mobo's)

Re: [Freevo-users] usb storage

2006-01-09 Thread Geert Decorte
The description of the problem does look familiar to me.

I have a FC4 with HAL enabled. Working under Gnome Deskop everything
worked out fine, but changing to another windowsmanager it didn't work
anymore and reacted as you described.

I needed to start up gnome-volume-manager before the windowsmanager to
interact with HAL.
BTW I don't use the USB pluging, I did something with a link AFAIR.

Believe a linux version with HAL installed could be causing this.

Hi,

unfortunately I do not have the answer. I am not running a lcd display
but I think this is a neat idea.
I think there are display to connect to the parallel port supported by
lcdproc?

Do you, if freevo only displays information on the lcd (as in the
"layouts" in lcd.py) or will for example the menu be displayed, so that
I can navigate through freevo using the lcd instead of the TV?

Regards
Cornelius
