Hi
  The most recent post is

attached to it is a config for the second record server. I use
dvbstreamer but it can be adapted for other
configs. the local_conf.py file should work as a starting point.

I´m running freevo on an 700 Mhz Mobile Celeron with 128 MByte (T-Online
S100, around 20 EUR on ebay) and it works OK, though HD will be a problem
(depending on the codec and bitrate, Elephants Dream.avi in 1024x plays
back fine).

Good idea :-)
Then you could also install etch and use my backported packages:
http://slashproc.org/debian
Maybe these packages also work on gutsy, I haven´t checked the depen-
dencies in detail but on a short look I see no obvious showstoppers.
Nonetheless I would choose lenny for a new installation now.

[Freevo-users] Ubuntu install

2008-10-30 Thread publicy

Thanks for your answer,

about 8.04 I was agree with you and I've planned to upgrade until I read this :
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=ubuntu_bench_2008&num=10

Ubuntu become slower and slower and my media box is an old computer (Duron 1Ghz,
484 Mo RAM)

The 6 months cycle of ubuntu release is too short...

I think next time I will install Debian.

By the way for the moment I will try to install freevo 1.8 from source.

Neither python-pylirc nor w32codecs are essential to run Freevo, however you
will not be able to play certain movies nor use a remote with lirc (but if
you can access your remote through linux input layer via /dev/*input*/*event
* devices, you won't need lirc either;
http://www.linuxtv.org/v4lwiki/index.php/Remote_controllers) .

For w32codecs, you can see
http://phorolinux.com/how-to-install-non-free-multimedia-codecs-on-ubuntu-710-gutsy-gibbon.html

For python-pylirc may be you have to install from sources.

Nevertheless, Gutsy is an old version now and is about to be out of support
(april-09), so I think it should be wise (and easier to mainain) install
Hardy (8.04LTS) and Freevo.

Hi Jonathan,
I tried to find your post on how to have 2 recodservers running but
with no success. Could you please point me to that post?
Cheers,
