Unfortunately it doesn't work (and never has) with DVDs :-(. Xine doesn't 
allow the retrieval of the current chapter from the slave interface, I 
believe VLC does but I just haven't had a chance to look into adding VLC 
support for DVDs.

Do you shutdown and restart freevo before/after the suspend, as this 
appears to suggest that freevo has just started?

Looks like this is caused by the drivers reporting no disc and then ~3 
seconds later (spin up time?) as detecting a disc.

 yes. I have replace the shutdown command with /etc/acpi/sleep.sh (or 
 similar, have no access to the HTPC now)

 I suppose that I have to look for hwo the kernel modules are reloaded 
 after sleep... maybe unloading some before could help.
