Thanks Duncan. Unfortunately this doesn't help.
I got the local_conf changes as you recommended using the convert_config
tool. The problem still exists.
especially the TV config section is now:

TV_VIDEO_GROUPS = [
VideoGroup(vdev='/dev/video0',
   adev=None,
   input_type='composite 1',
   input_num=2,
   tuner_norm='PAL',
   tuner_type='external',
   tuner_chanlist='',
   desc='external tuner',
   group_type='ivtv')
   ]

More help will be gratefully appreciated

Try this first:
Add the following to MPLAYER_ARGS in local_conf.py:
'ivtv'   : '-cache 8192',

If this fails then try adding a line of code to
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/freevo/tv/plugins/mplayer.py

I would like to see what the value of args is:
print "args=%r" % (args,)

like this:
args += (tvcmd,)

print 'args=%r' % (args,)

[Freevo-users] please help fix TV play using 1.7.4 on Ubuntu Gusty

2007-11-19 Thread ilan barak
I am having a hard time configuring 1.7.4. the previous version that I
gladely used for over 2 years was 1.5.0 on Debian Sarge
I had a HD failure, so I am going through the installation hardship once
again. This time on Ubuntu 7.10 Gusty Gibbon
I've got most running OK, except for watching TV (not recording) . i have
mplayer configured as the TV player.

Please help me resolve this. I assume that I am not configuring the video
(Tv) correctly.

it seems that freevo does not understand that I am using an external tuner,
and am feeding the video analog composite into a PVR-150.

I added two debug print lines in mplayer.py to see what was going on:

Here are the additions
after line 98

if mode == 'tv':
   *print 'vg.group_type is %s' % vg.group_type*
   if vg.group_type == 'ivtv':

after line 171

args += (tvcmd,)

*print args*

mpl = '--prio=%s %s -vo %s %s -ao %s %s -slave %s %s' % args

This adds the higligted lines in the log below
it seems that vg.group is 'normal' and that the mplayer command assumes a TV
receiver as so:
*mpl = (-20, '/usr/bin/mplayer', 'xv,sdl,x11,', '', 'oss:/dev/dsp',
'-autosync 100 -nolirc -nojoystick -autoq 100 -screenw 800 -screenh 600
-fs', 'tv:// -tv driver=v4l:freq=
77.250:device=/dev/video0:input=0:norm=NTSC:width=768:height=576:outfmt=yuy2-vop
pp=ci')

*the log dump (after turning on debug) is:

Re: [Freevo-users] PAL TV interlaced

2005-08-24 Thread Ilan Barak
Thanks John,

I have progressed quite alot in the meantime.
I can re-construct the problem even outside Freevo:

sequence 1 : results in a good picture

1. when the system is re-booted I run mplayer
/dev/video0. I get a noisy picture, most of which is
noise (like the PVR-150 tuner noise) and a small tv
stripe at the bottom. I looked at the ivtvctl results
and it is configured to input 6 ( I use input 3 for TV
input)
2. I do ivtvctl AND set input to 3 (composite)
3. repeat "mplayer /dev/video0" and now get a clear
picture
4. If I now start freevo I get a clear recording and
clear TV picture. This is also true if I start freevo
after step 1.

sequence 2 : results in a badly interlaced picture

1. when the system is re-booted I do ivtvctl AND set
input to 3 (composite)
2. run "mplayer /dev/video0" and now get a bad
interlaced picture
3. If I now start freevo I get a bad recording and bad
TV picture. This is also true if I start freevo after
step 1.

my take is that this is an ivtv issue. I tried
downloading the latest ivtv 3.7h but am having trouble
with the Make command. I have posted for help in the
ivtv mailing lists.
I can also mention that as my freevo is configured to
startup automatically with KDE , I can let it go
through this process and as lon as I exit freevo
without doing anything, I can continue with sequence 1
and all is good.

Thanks for your help and keep enjoying life.

Ilan

You could have a look through your logs, you'll see
the command freevo
is using to launch mplayer for tv. Try this command on
the command line
and see if you can find what parameter is causing the
problem.

RE: [Freevo-users] PAL TV interlaced

2005-08-22 Thread Ilan Barak
thanks John, will do.

I suspect that the problem is in the ivtv setting, as
the mplayer options should only effect playback. As I
wrote, the problem also apears in the recording. Am I
correct?
I am intending to run the freevo through a debugger,
and look for where the IVTV parameters are set
(written). In what module is this set? Can you
recommend a debug tool?

thanks

Ilan

[Freevo-users] PAL TV interlaced

2005-08-21 Thread Ilan Barak

HW: PVR-150 and
TV-out NV FX-5200 based.
I use an external
satellite STB with analog video/audio connected to the PVR-150. PVR-150 input 3,
standard PAL (Israel)

When I pipe directly
from /dev/video0 to mplayer without any options I get a clear
picture.
However, using
freevo in TV show mode or record/playback I get what appears to be an interlaced
picture.
I also viewed the
recorded file on DivX player (on a windows machine) and see the same vertical
blur.

my conf file is
attached.

any
suggestions?

thanks

Ilan
