[Freevo-users] joy module

2003-07-21 Thread K. Creason
I am having little joy with the joy module. I am using the latest stable
version.

It works in the epg, but not in the menus.
However, in the epg, every movement is seen as two. I press down, it goes
down twice. I press left it goes left twice. Buttons are real iffy too.
When I press an unauthorized button (like right) while starting a DVD it
crashes, otherwise they generally have no response

Did I mention it is a gamepad?

Anyone help me with this? As you can see I've tried a few options, some of
which I am sure are quite wrong. The plugin is activated, naturally.

Yes, I missed the third and final showing of "Sandwiches you will like" on
PBS. Don't laugh! It was awesome, made me hungry and ready to travel and try
some of those awesome and unique sandwiches. I happened to come check on it
and saw that I had made a little booboo in the filename to remove and
managed to make it record a half hour. Sigh.

anyone get it and put it on gnutella?

[Freevo-users] what is up with the pid files?

2003-07-17 Thread K. Creason
My record_daemon.py was constantly breaking due to the pid file in /var/run.
The previous process isn't running - but that @[EMAIL PROTECTED] pid file was still
there and stopping the next one.
Actually, now that I think back, it's always still there but sometimes it
would run and sometimes it wouldn't. And once it wouldn't, you couldn't get
it to start again until you removed the pid file.
What is with that? Shouldn't it be removed when the daemon exits?

I had to modify my cron entry:
* * * * * cd /usr/local/freevo; ./freevo execute src/tv/record_daemon.py
>>/tmp/freevo.cron.out 2>&1 ; sleep 10; rm
/var/run/freevo-record_daemon.py.pid >>/tmp/freevo.cron.out 2>&1

Now I'm happy, but is it an accident waiting to happen?

[Freevo-users] running pid error

2003-07-04 Thread K. Creason
I've got the latest stable...
I am getting a "freevo is running under pid #" error when there is no freevo
and nothing by that pid.

I tried it a couple of times just to make sure I wasn't running it just as
the record_daemon ran, but that never seems to bother him anyway.
What to do? is there a pid- or lock-file I can rm?

Thanks

Make sure you have IRQ for PCI/VGA turned in the bios.
And then do a search on google for XF86Config files that use
the Screen = tv option.

Here are ( I think ) all the relevant sections from mine. I am using
tv out, no monitor, though I did run both for a while too. But I think that
was using the nvtv program to switch back and forth before I found the
little problem with the BIOS setting.

RE: [Freevo-users] How to do TV recording??

2003-03-29 Thread K. Creason
Alan-
if you don't follow the devel lists, a solution that worked for me showed up
there. You might try it if you are still broken.

In the src/tv/record_daemon.py script find the line "import os"
and this line after it:
os.environ['LD_PRELOAD'] = '' # Add this line to stop GLIBC_2.X preload
errors

And voila! it worked for me.

I wonder if this will solve some menuing crashes too...

RE: [Freevo-users] Freevo specs (capacity/recording time) ?

2003-03-28 Thread K. Creason
hmm...
I experimented with changing video codecs in mencoder with little success.
What do you mean mpg or avi, exactly? The file extension matters little.
I would prefer recording to a format that could be burnt natively to a vcd.

Still having library issues with record_daemon.py. Bueller... Bueller?
Bueller? Anyone?
Recompiled mplayer/mencoder but |smacks head| that's not the issue; it's in
freevo somewhere not mencoder.
I have been googling; there's a hit to mozilla lists that suggest that same
error:
"looks suspiciously like mozilla is using
an internal glibc symbol that is no longer
available. File a bug on mozilla."

So... I gotta file a bug on Freevo? Haven't I done that already by posting
here and on the other list repetitively?
Any SuSE users with success?

RE: [Freevo-users] record_daemon.py probs

2003-03-27 Thread K. Creason
hmmm. return didn't work, I think that's reserved.
I tried bozo = os.system(cmd) and logged that.

I get (and have been getting) the log entry that says "starting
/usr/blah/menocoder" with all the entries. The command works when run from
the command line.

Now with the bozo log, I get that previous log and a five digit number--
32512 for instance. Looks like a pid, but the pids at this time aren't that
high. And it's the both times now. What is that?

Should I get on the developer list with this problem?

Based on the line above it:
log(' Starting item (%s)' % cmd)

The log file (freevo_record.log) should contain the command being
called.

You could also check for the return value (os.system() returns the
error code)

i.e.

return = os.system(cmd)
log('%s' % return)

where the

os.system(cmd)

was.

[Freevo-users] record_daemon.py probs

2003-03-26 Thread K. Creason
This is driving me crazy.

How can I debug the python system call "os.system(cmd)" on line 174 of the
record_daemon.py?

I can't see that the operation is ever fired; it runs the rewrite and builds
the command just dandy, but no starting of the mencoder command.

Help python people, please.

Background: this is 1.3.2.pre2; it is not recording. The crontab is
scheduled and it is readying the record.lst, building the command,
commenting out the old entries, and writing the new record.lst but there is
no mencoder job started and no log file created from the mencoder operation.
It's like it never was executed. How can I put the record_daemon.py into a
debug mode and see what's going on? Is this command getting executed? where
is the error output if so, because there is no success at all.

Thanks.

RE: [Freevo-users] How to do TV recording??

2003-03-24 Thread K. Creason
Hey all-
still trying to find out why some of are having problems make scheduled
recordings.

I made this change to record_daemon.py (adding only the log item if it is in
the window):
# Don't start anything that is within 30 seconds of the end.
if self.start_time <= now < (self.start_time + self.length_secs -
30):
# We're inside the time window for this item

log('No time! in 30 second window.')
return 1
else:
return 0

And it logs it every time! Is this a bug, or did I not write it in the
correct location?
I apologize, I don't know python yet...

The good news is I got rid of my library error by running 'freevo execute
runtime/copy_libdep.py'.
But still no scheduled recordings.

Try mailing root and see where it goes. I wonder if you've got error

It's commented out... the '#' at the beginning is added by the
recording stuff if: (a) it was recorded by the daemon or (b) it
started recording while being added, like if you selected a show which
had just started.

Try taking out the '#' and set the date to sometime in the future,
because otherwise, the command looks fine.

The message I get in root's mail is:

If I knew how/why what is causing that I believe it would work. Probably a
pathing problem that is set correctly during runtime but is not picked up
the same from a cron execution.

I'm still not sure what caused recordings to stop too early, though.
I think one did complete properly but I haven't timed it.

Hello,

I've been trying to get TV recording working. I am
abloe to record with MEncoder using the following
MEncoder commands:

/usr/bin/mencoder -tv
on:driver=v4l:device=/dev/video0:alsa:amode=1:width=320:height=240:norm=NTSC
:chanlist=us-cable:channel=
-o /media/Video/recorded/-.avi -ovc
lavc -lavcopts ${LAVCOPTS} -oac mp3lame -lameopts
br=128:cbr:mode=0 -endpos

NOTE: The information on the '<>' brackets are
typically variables filled in from input when then
script is called.

I edited my local_config.py file so the MEcoder
options match what I have in my script that works, and
I get a 'freevo_record.lst' and 'freevo_record.log'
file in mt '/tmp' directory.

I also made the following entry inmy crontab:

* * * * * /usr/local/freevo/freevo execute
/usr/local/freevo/src/tv/record_daemon.py

so that the 'record daemon' gets run every minute.
The 'freevo_record.log' indichttp://personals.yahoo.ca

[Freevo-users] yay! epg. yay! tuner. Record?

2003-03-23 Thread K. Creason
Hooray! I've got the tuner mess figured out-- it was a tuner module issue.
Hooray! the epg is working.

Hmm... now recording. I've got the cronjob that calls
"/usr/freevo/1_3_2pre2/freevo execute src/tv/record_daemon.py". It was
running every minute, but that's a lotta logfile when every five minutes is
probably ample.

Two issues: unattended no go, shorter duration than defined.

#1: Unattended no go:
Watching the logfile, it reads the freevo_record.lst, and sees the jobs and
it calls them on time like so:

#2: Shorter duration
When a show is airing and I hit the F6 record button from the EPG, it starts
right then. But it only records half the show. I tested this on an hour show
and a half hour show. Each was about five minutes into the program and each
only recorded about 15-25 minutes. I don't have exact timings, but the file
sizes were sub 200 megs and was high quality setting. The file system is a
LVM with rfs if that make a hoot.

TIA. sigh.

RE: [Freevo-users] [was] epg_xmltv.py error [now] tuner error

2003-03-22 Thread K. Creason
I messed around with it and found the long string that is passed to mplayer.

It's tuning channel 11 to 199.250 and channel 8 to 181.250. Which are 6
degree jumps from the other channels.
They just don't come in.

I'm trying some other tuner modules, but there really aren't that many
different ntsc modules.

Hmm... can you tune them in manually via mplayer? If you can tune
other channels in then Freevo is passing the data correctly, and it's
possible that mplayer doesn't know how to tune them itself.

[Freevo-users] RE: [now] tuner error

2003-03-22 Thread K. Creason
crap! I suck. I deleted all the previous postings, so there was very little
relevant information.

Here's the deal:
Freevo tunes channels 2-55 fine-- except for 8 and 11. There is nothing
there, just snow/static.
I am us-bcast, ntsc.
Using kwintv, total crap, nothing tunes right.
Using xawtv, I had to do a lot of fine-tuning on every channel.

It's a PV-BT878P+FM.RC (card=70); I'm using tuner module 27. Hmm, I don't
see that radio is on.
I will stop box and open and double check the tuner module.

I haven't looked carefully, but the unpack error is what would happen
if the line in freevo_config.py is incorrect.

Does your freevo_config have a line like this:
TV_SETTINGS = '%s television %s /dev/video0' % (CONF.tv,
CONF.chanlist)

And do you have lines like these in freevo.conf?

tv = ntsc
chanlist = us-cable

or whatever your local settings are?

These details are pretty important :)

My bad! I didn't have the hole package (1.3.2.pre2). Doh!

I now have the xmltv part working, it loads the chanlist and eveyrthing.
But, I still have live tv crash. Is this a problem with the kernel tuner
module? (kwintv doesn't work right, but xawtv will find the channels with
much fine-tuning).

I got the pre2 version (is that up to date with the cvs?).
This is the error I got running the epg_xmltv.py (from command line)

Incidentally- I edited the Makefile and changed the log and cache
directories-- I like everything to go to one place like
/var/freevo/log|cache etc. And yet this epg has a separate setting for log?
That sucks. How many more modules/Makefiles do I need to edit to get things
organized the way I want?

A.P.-
I was running the epg_xmltv.py from the command line.
I guess I'll have to try the cvs.

All-
BTTV question: using xawtv I have to fine-tune each channel quite a bit.
kwintv is just screwed up, no fine tuning there. Does freevo offer any
fine-tuning? or is this a kernel tuner module problem and I should try some
others?

Regarding the first problem, you need to run epg_xmltv.py on the
command-line if you have an empty TV_CHANNELS, it'll generate a list
from the TV listings.

As for the second problem, you can try the latest CVS which explicitly
skips over missing stop dates, though since I started using tv_sort,
it hasn't happened.

The only situation I can think of is TV listings at the very end of
the guide (i.e. shows beginning at 11 but ending afterwards) cannot be
fixed by tv_sort, since xmltv doesn't know when they end.

The best bet is to try a snapshot of CVS where the 'stop' bug is fixed
as well as running epg_xmltv.py from the command line via 'freevo
execute'

[Freevo-users] epg_xmltv.py error

2003-03-20 Thread K. Creason
Greets-
I've tried to pound my way through this, and I can't make it work.
Yes- I've read the wiki and conf file. I've done the tv_grab_na|tv_sort.
I've tried tv_sort --by-chan too.
I've set TV_CHANNELS = 'None'; I've also tried '', and no quotes, and all
lowercase. Slightly different results, but it's all broken.

I also think there is something wrong with my xmltv; I can create the
TV_CHANNEL entries by hand to match the xmltv exactly, and I still get a
corrupted database error.

After I get this fixed... then I can find out if there's a problem with the
tuner module not being quite right. I get a tv module crash w/out a db
trying to watch a channel.

Yeah, that's a total of three problems.
Grr. Perhaps I going about it the wrong way. Tuner first?
