[Freevo-users] Mplayer and Debian

2014-11-23 Thread Liz
I upgraded yesterday and broke the mplayer install. Mplayer doesn't
come from Debian anymore
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=758543#58
and the result has been my config file got wiped.
I used mplayer to record from my hdhomerun tv, so without
the /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf.local nothing happens.

Just a warning.

 I recently got a raspberry pi for xbmc, but I do miss freevo. It had
 the perfect mix of simplicity and features, my TVs dlna client is
 utterly braindead and xbmc tries to be too clever.

 Thanks for all your hard work Dirk!

I'll continue with Freevo 1.x on my tv box. It's been reliable - more
reliable than the hardware, which is now V4.
The Freevo 1.x wiki was last archived by archive.org in May
http://web.archive.org/web/20130527124511/http://doc.freevo.org/

and the 'recent changes' page says last change in Feb, so that is still
available.

 we talked about this some time ago: the SVN is outdated and already

 But not as expected.

 FAQ:

 Why today?
 --
 Simple: we had a HD crash on the server where freevo.org was hosted.
 The HD has to be changed.

 Is there no backup?
 ---
 Sure we have a backup. I automatically made backups to another virtal
 machine. When everything was set up, this was on a different host.
 After a host update, both virtual machines now are/were on the same
 host and with my bad luck, both share(d) the same HD. :(

 What does it mean for Freevo?
 -
 First of all: the code is save! We moved to github long ago. The
 website is on sf, the mailserver is on a RAID-1. Only the Wiki is
 gone.

 Unless Jason has a backup on his own, we cannot recreate the Wiki.
 Sorry about that.

[Freevo-users] HD HomeRun to DVB

2013-01-02 Thread Liz
This bit is good news.
I found that someone had coded a module and utilities to make a
HDHomeRun dual tuner look like 2 DVB tuners.

Either Ubuntu packages, or source.
http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/dvbhdhomerun/
http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/dvbhdhomerun/wiki/UbuntuPackages

I have found that this finally means we have every channel on our
Freevo box.
Recommended although compilation instructions are a little vague at
some points.

[Freevo-users] Syntax problem with channels config

2012-12-30 Thread Liz

problem
==
We've had new channels
so my channels.conf reads like this
ABC News
24(ABC):21950:INVERSION_AUTO:BANDWIDTH_7_MHZ:FEC_AUTO:FEC_AUTO:QAM_AUTO:TRANSMISSION_MODE_AUTO:GUARD_INTERVAL_AUTO:HIERARCHY_AUTO:516:654:672

the channel name is
ABC News 24(ABC)

now if i feed that to mplayer
dvb://ABC News 24(ABC)
doesn't work and i need
dvb://'ABC News 24(ABC)'
or
dvb://ABC News 24(ABC)

so i try to get this passed from freevo for tuning
TV_CHANNELS = [
( 'abcnews24.free.au' ,'ABC News 24' , 'ABC News 24(ABC)' ),

but i just get errors
DVBIN: no such channel ABC News 24(ABC)

Failed to open dvb://ABC News 24(ABC).
==

possible solutions

Can I change the channel ID in the channels.conf??
Can I get rid of the bits in parentheses and the file still work??
Or how in python do I get the channel ID passed properly to mplayer?

Liz

 You can change the channel name to anything you like. It's just a

 Channel tuning uses the PID/AID/VID entries at the end of the line.

  However, I'm not getting any tuning happening
  the line which is setting the target is returning 'none'
  hdhomerun_config 1110D413 set /tuner0/target Freevo IP:1235

  I've had some look at the code, and if 'none' it is supposed to set
  localhost (i think)
  but
  hdhomerun_config 1110D413 set /tuner0/target none
  is going to the tuner, and it seems to do exactly nothing

 A quick fix for this would be to change the /etc/hosts file so that
 the host name of computer didn't resolve to 127.0.0.1 but to the IP
 address of the network interface that is used to talk to the
 HDHomeRun.

 That will mean freevo can work out what IP address to tell the
 HDHomeRun to send the packets to.

[Freevo-users] Integrating HDHomerun tuner into Freevo

2012-04-08 Thread Liz
1. I managed to get Freevo to tune the hdhomerun and dump the stream
to a buffer on the HDD.
I didn't get anything on the screen to watch, I didn't get any audio.
It just says Tuning [channel].
I can't decipher to recorded stream with vlc, mplayer or xine.

2. I tried recording with the generic record plugin but it doesn't send
a tuning sequence of commands.
I get a fxd file created but not even an empty file for the record.
I've tried a few commands for vlc and mplayer that might have worked.

Anyone got any further suggestions??

  It actually detunes the channel when I check the result.

 So for tuning to ABC News 24 this is what the code should be doing:

 hdhomerun_config HDHomeRun Id set /tunerTuner Id/channel 21950
 hdhomerun_config HDHomeRun Id set /tunerTuner Id/program 672
 hdhomerun_config HDHomeRun Id set /tunerTuner Id/target Freevo

 Where HDHomeRun Id and Tuner ID come from splitting the video

 Freevo PC. At a guess I would imagine it's the id of the HDHomeRun
 that is a problem, what have you got you video groups set to?

 Cheers

 Adam

I'm back at this point
I found that the /tmp/freevo/live.buf file for the buffer was being
destroyed on reboot, so /tmp/freevo is the current file, and livepause
is not dying anymore

However, I'm not getting any tuning happening
the line which is setting the target is returning 'none'
hdhomerun_config 1110D413 set /tuner0/target Freevo IP:1235

I've had some look at the code, and if 'none' it is supposed to set
localhost (i think)
but
hdhomerun_config 1110D413 set /tuner0/target none
is going to the tuner, and it seems to do exactly nothing

 Ahh, but you'll still need to implement stop as if the program is
 removed from the schedule you'll need to cancel the recording.

 If the stream is an MPEG2 TS over UDP or RTP you don't even need to
 use vlc, python would be more than capable of receiving the stream and
 saving it to disk.

I have a networked tuner (HDHomerun)
the stream is identified as UDP://127.0.0.1:5000

I would love to be able to tune this via Freevo and then record / play
from the stream, because the transmitter has been retuned, an
additional transponder added, and the current signal is too weak even
with a masthead amplifier for my USB TV stick.

Sadly, if I can't receive on the DVB-T stick I'll have to go off to
Myth which I do know can handle the networked tuner.

 New TV channels have started being broadcast this weekend and I have
 an interesting display problem with the new HD channels.
 These produce a video display which is larger than my screen. They can
 viewed in a X-window session provided the display is windowed and not
 full-screen. Full-screen they hang the GUI and give a black display.
 Audio is heard.
 In the Freevo window manager I get the same. After pressing [Esc] to
 quit I have to press [z] a few times to get a display again. I think
 that if I had some mplayer settings that would scale them back I might
 get something viewable. It is not a high powered processor running
 this box, and I have --framedrop set already.

 My display isn't perfect with smaller displays, often a channel is
 made square (so everyone is skinny). Pressing [z] for fullscreen will
 make it rectangular, but not fill the screen, and positioned to the
 right. Pressing [z] again makes no change to the video, as it then
 becomes an mplayer interpreted [z] and some delay is programmed.

I've been trying -noscale as an mplayer option
this seems to be better on the lower resolution tv channels

[Freevo-users] Display problem with HD TV

2012-01-14 Thread Liz
New TV channels have started being broadcast this weekend and I have an
interesting display problem with the new HD channels.
It is not a high powered processor running this
box, and I have --framedrop set already.

My display isn't perfect with smaller displays, often a channel is made
square (so everyone is skinny). Pressing [z] for fullscreen will make
it rectangular, but not fill the screen, and positioned to the right.
Pressing [z] again makes no change to the video, as it then becomes an
mplayer interpreted [z] and some delay is programmed.

Here are my mplayer settings

MPLAYER_ARGS['dvd'] = '-cache 8192'
MPLAYER_ARGS['dvb'] = '-framedrop -vf pp=de/fd -cache 4096'
MPLAYER_ARGS['vcd'] = '-cache 4096'
MPLAYER_ARGS['cd']  = '-cache 1024 -cdda speed=2'
MPLAYER_ARGS['tv']  = '-nocache'
MPLAYER_ARGS['ivtv']= '-cache 8192'
MPLAYER_ARGS['avi'] = '-cache 5000 -idx'
MPLAYER_ARGS['flv'] = '-nocache -forceidx'
MPLAYER_ARGS['mp4'] = '-nocache -forceidx'
MPLAYER_ARGS['rm']  = '-cache 5000 -forceidx'
MPLAYER_ARGS['rmvb']= '-cache 5000 -forceidx'
MPLAYER_ARGS['webcam']  = 'tv:// -tv
driver=v4l:width=352:height=288:outfmt=yuy$ MPLAYER_ARGS['default'] =
'-framedrop -cache 5000'

TV_SETTINGS = 'pal television australia /dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0'

TV_OPTS = '-vo=x11 -framedrop '
TV_VIEW_OUTFMT = 'yuy2'

[Freevo-users] Idea for Freevo config file

2011-10-24 Thread Liz
I had an idea (which I cannot make happen) for a web based program to
produce a config file.
I don't know why I thought that a web based interactive program would
be better than one packaged in with Freevo, except that it should be
easier to maintain, as it would not be distro based.

To me, making the python config file work is the hardest part of
installing Freevo, and trying to get the right bits in place for TV the
hardest part again.

I think its a great idea

 Sadly, I did not get the response I was hoping for. I cannot code
 everything myself, my time is limited.

Would a bit of organisation now assist with next year's
google_summer_of_code project?

my new tv tuner is just an oversized usb stick in size and is no trouble out
of the box
and the output from the digital transmission is so much better than the old
analogue with the overheating pvr-350 card.

 Or should I be looking for a more modern intel graphics chipset? Or
 possible a bigger case so I can fit a cheap nvidia card in there? Or as
 other people suggested, USB attached TV reception? tbh I'm not sure a
 bigger case in the lounge will go down very well ;)

I'm not home at present, so I can't check further details
i have a quad core amd with builtin intel graphics and the usb attached tuner
it would fit well in a low profile box
power consumption is low enough to run off my solar system on a normal day in
summer but i'm sure i could have managed a lower power setup if i had just
got the dual core
the old celeron did not have enough power to record and run the tuner, so the
s-presso case is out of service.

Once a week cron runs freevo cache for me.
You need to stop freevo and restart after the event.
