Thanks Dischi. What file was changed? Is there a way you could email it to me? I'm somewhat of a simpleton Freevo user, so I typically use the lynx installer and leave it at that. [Freevo-users] Continued: No Sound while Recording
As stated previously, it appears that Freevo is setting the IGAIN mixer pot to 0, which forces no sound to be recorded, even though you can hear the LINE IN sound over the speakers. IIRC, my Soundblaster went away from standard and allowed the IGAIN to be set to 0 and still record off the LINE-IN but this is highly abnormal from everything I've been reading. Aside from the previously mentioned times Freevo resets these values, I have also determined that Freevo eroneously sets Inputs and IGAIN to 0 when viewing "Recorded TV Shows". I say Erroneously because there is no reason I can think of that I should not be able to watch a show while recording another (or even the same one). Mencoder and Mplayer seem to be able to record and play the same stream at the same time. That is where Tivo allows people to watch a TV show and skip the commercials, the users just start watching a little later and FF through unwanted video (like Commercials). Do we have to include what Channels do what in the setup? PCM and Master are simple enough to determine. Which input to choose from is another story, however. Does Freevo view the IGAIN as an INPUT or an OUTPUT or some other unknown, that it turns it off completely at every Freevo controlled Mixer-change? Thanks again for the hard work! I know this is a hurdle, but one which I look forward to seeing how it is resolved. As a workaround, perhaps we can add in a mixer command prior to the mencoder line? That will not, however, alter the behavior of watching recorded stuff. Another tack, what was that setting to NOT allow Freevo to change the Mixer? This will work for everything but directly watching TV. If we could configure Freevo to only turn on and off what on KMIX is the "Green Light" (which allows the LINE-IN to output directly to the speakers) but not adjust the settings? Thanks! It would appear that the IGAIN setting is being reset to zero before recording. This causes the recording to be blank audio. IGAIN of 1 (or anything above 0) seems to allow me to record. The question is this: What is resetting the IGAIN value to 0? and how can we avoid it? This is occurring when watching videos, either recorded TV or "Movies" using MPlayer (haven't tried xine). Watching a video using MPlayer alone does not exhibit this behavior so I'm guessing it is something Freevo does before turning on the viewers... Freevo resets the Master volume, the PCM volume, and LINE/MIC in volumes, as well as killing the IGAIN value. Any hints would be helpful! :) Thanks for what is still a GREAT product! I got to watch a couple DVD's last night with my in-laws, and in between videos we scanned through the family photo albums! Way cool :) Matt On Fri, 02 Jan 2004 05:22:11 -0800 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > > what soundcard chipset is used? can you record audio fine? have you set > your mixer settings and capture device correctly? are you using OSS or ALSA? > what version of the linux kernel are you running? is the sound driver loaded > as a module or compiled in the kernel? > > also be sure to do a google search without the word freevo as this is not a > freevo problem but a linux sound configuration problem. -- Matthew Carpenter [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.eisgr.com/ Enterprise Information Systems * Network Server Appliances * Network Consulting, Integration & Support * Web Integration and E-Business --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: IBM Linux Tutorials. [Freevo-users] Re: Freevo-users digest, Vol 1 #954 - 9 msgs
Intel 8x0 AC 97 chipset ALSA on SuSE 8.2 Part of the question is how the mixer is handled. I know that when Freevo is not running there is no sound coming in from the TV in, but when I watch TV through Freevo there is sound. When I hit escape the sound goes away. Freevo appears to be setting the mixer level for watching. Does it not also set it for recording as well? If so, how is this done and how might it be malfunctioning? Re: [Freevo-users] Old Question Reborn-No Sound
Thanks Alex- How are you controlling the audio then? Have you discovered an automated way or is this a manual task? Is there an entry in Freevo's configs which allow you to do this? It seems that Freevo should set this correctly rather than telling it to stop trying... Is this a common event? What might we do to assist in the fixing of this bug, if that's what it turns out to be? [Freevo-users] Old Question Reborn-No Sound
What was ever determined of this problem? I am running Freevo 1.4.1 and am still experiencing this issue. Google found this message and another like it, but no fix. Any ideas? From: Mike LeVan Subject: [Freevo-users] Recording Problems with Sound Date: Sat, 15 Nov 2003 20:24:00 -0800 Hi all, I am trying to get recording going (my last step -- I think), and I need a little help. I am using mencoder/mplayer version 0.91. I think I have figured out how to record video on freevo, but I am having some problems with audio. I can watch TV just fine with audio and video, but I am can't get an audio feed for the recording. I am using cable TV, and I have the cable TV coming into an ATI All-In-Wonder VE card. I have the audio out from the ATI card going into my soundcard (onboard). I have tried to use /dev/dsp and /dev/audio on my mencoder command. They are the only options which do not return an audio error. It is just that I get a "static" type of sound. When I open sound recorder, I can raise the line-in option and hear the TV without anything running. Here is the command I am using to record: = mencoder -tv on:driver=v4l:input=0:norm=NTSC:channel=38:chanlist=us-cable:width=640:height=480:outfmt=yv12:device=/dev/video0:adevice=/dev/dsp:audiorate=44100:forceaudio:forcechan=1:buffersize=64 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=1200:keyint=30 -oac mp3lame -lameopts br=128:cbr:mode=3 -ffourcc divx -endpos 5 -o blah.avi = Here is the output: = MEncoder 0.91-RPM-3.1 (C) 2000-2003 MPlayer Team CPU: Advanced Micro Devices Athlon 4 PM Palomino/Athlon MP Multiprocessor/Athlon XP eXtreme Performance (Family: 6, Stepping: 2) Detected cache-line size is 64 bytes CPUflags: Type: 6 MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 1 3DNow2: 1 SSE: 1 SSE2: 0 Reading /root/.mplayer/codecs.conf: can't open '/root/.mplayer/codecs.conf': No such file or directory Reading /etc/mplayer/codecs.conf: 50 audio & 136 video codecs File not found: 'frameno.avi' Reading config file /root/.mplayer/mencoder: No such file or directory success: format: 0 data: 0x0 - 0x0 TV detected! ;-) Selected driver: v4l name: Video 4 Linux input author: Alex Beregszaszi <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> comment: under development Selected device: BT878(ATI TV-Wonder VE) Capabilites: capture tuner overlay clipping frameram scales Device type: 235 Supported sizes: 48x32 => 768x480 Inputs: 2 0: Television: tuner audio tv camera (tuner:1, norm:ntsc) 1: Composite1: audio camera (tuner:0, norm:ntsc) audio block size too low, setting to 8192! [Freevo-users] Sorry - Record Problem in 1.4.1
I assumed the /etc/freevo/freevo.conf location of mencoder was the one that was used. Then I saw /usr/local/bin/mencoder in the logs I sent to you all. Sorry that I didn't notice that before. /usr/bin/mencoder is the ticket. Now I have to figure out how to make non-silent movies :) Apparently, /dev/dsp isn't cutting it. [Freevo-users] DVD Crash and Channels incorrect
Hello- I recently turned my "rough media pc" into a more "Refined Media Center" with the help of Freevo. Freevo's lynx-install worked great and with the exception of "us-cable" being detected instead of "us-bcast" we were good to go. Xine and MPlayer were already installed so video-playing, audio-playing, and picture viewing have been great! TV however has been a serious issue. I have not installed tvtime, that is compiling right now. I installed XMLTV, which would be a nice option for the Freevo installer, which gave me the channels and programming. First off, it appears that my tuner is consistently one channel (+-) off, eg CH3 shows up as CH4, CH8 as CH9, etc... which makes scheduling recording times difficult. This is across the board (KWinTV, xawtv, zapping, etc...) Secondly, Freevo doesn't seem change the channels for me. It just stays where it was last?? DVD's have also been a problem. Sticking in a DVD after loading Freevo, or starting Freevo with a DVD in the drive causes Freevo to crash without fail with a stack trace including many "thread"s and one "dvdinfo.pl"? Does this ring a bell? Thanks in advance! Freevo does, after all, rock :) Matt --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: SF.net Giveback Program. Does SourceForge.net help you be more productive?
