Hi All

Let me start by saying that I love freevo, I have been using it for
about 1 1/2 years so far, and its been a good lounge companion :) I
don't use any of the tv functionality, freevo just gives me an easy to
see interface to my music and movies that I can use my remote to control.

So I have been looking for a similar app for windows. They pretty much
all suck, mediaportal is probably the closest functionality wise, but
even it version 2 its a resource hogging resource hog. Plus it plain
doesn't work on my machine.

So my question is, has anyone tried to port freevo to windows? What
would the impediments be if one attempted this? I don't know python, but
I am not afraid to try :)

I think Windows is the impediment lol :)

Well, the way I see it you have mplayer on windows, python on windows -- it should port fairly easily but you won't know until you try it.

I am using -vo xv.

I think its the a/v processing that it has to do that is causing me
problems. I have this running on a P-III 800. Perhaps I should think
about upgrading...

Well, I tried mplayer but a couple of problems with it 1) the
audio/video is out of sync; 2) it doesn't unmute line in when I start it
up.

The picture quality is actually lower with mplayer then it is with
tvtime.

TVTime's OSD seems better and nicer then mplayer too.

Update: error is
Running tvtime 1.0.1.

Reading configuration from /etc/tvtime/tvtime.xml

Reading configuration from /home/tv/.tvtime/tvtime.xml

xcommon: No window properties found for EWMH.

Thank you for using tvtime.

But it will launch, after a few tries.??

2006-08-20 Thread mlists
I've found a bit of a pattern as to why launching TVTime doesn't always
set the audio properly.

TVTime doesn't always launch properly when selecting a channel. If it
fails for any reason, the audio will never reset and I have to do it
manually.

I will try and grab the log file next time but I can't see why its not
resetting the audio properly each and every time.

Looks to me like TVTime is loading their own XML parser format...this is
at the start of tvtime.xml.

[Freevo-users] Volume problems

2006-08-19 Thread Mlists

I'm having a bit of annoying problem with Freevo 1.5.4.  This is a fresh build but I copied my local settings from the old config.

TVTime works 90% of the time.  On occasion I go back into watch TV from the EPG and it seems to 'forget' to un-mute the sound and turn up the volume on the line-in.  It stays that way until I manually go in and do it.

I haven't found a pattern to it -- it will just do it sometimes.  I'm using a Hauppauge Wintv card.  With a Diamond Xtreme sound 7.1.  The sound card using the cmedia drivers.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: [Freevo-users] Why require xine > 0.9.21?

These are the latest versions available on the Xine web site. My distro
had an older version (not much older) but it wasn't supported by my
version of Freevo. I was able to finally get it to compile using an
older version of GCC (version 3.3 instead of version 4).

Everything is working fine now --

configure issued no warnings.

I use Arch Linux. Freevo is version 1.5.4.

What could I be missing?

[Freevo-users] Freevo Errors/Crashing

2006-08-12 Thread Mlists

Hi all,

I've reloaded my freevo box with a new version of Linux (arch linux - www.archlinux.org).

I did everything to set it up, installed all of the pre-reqs based on Arch's package manager, etc.

When I try and start freevo, I get:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/freevo/main.py", line 90, in ?
    import mmpython
  File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/mmpython/__init__.py", line 91, in ?
    import factory
  File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/mmpython/factory.py", line 80, in ?
    import mediainfo
  File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/mmpython/mediainfo.py", line 85, in ?
    LOCAL_ENCODING = locale.getpreferredencoding();
  File "/usr/lib/python2.4/locale.py", line 417, in getpreferredencoding
    setlocale(LC_CTYPE, "")
  File "/usr/lib/python2.4/locale.py", line 381, in setlocale
    return _setlocale(category, locale)
locale.Error: unsupported locale setting

When I type locale, I get this:
locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory
LANG=en_US
LC_CTYPE="en_US"
LC_NUMERIC="en_US"
LC_TIME="en_US"
LC_COLLATE=C
LC_MONETARY="en_US"
LC_MESSAGES="en_US"
LC_PAPER="en_US"
LC_NAME="en_US"
LC_ADDRESS="en_US"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_US"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US"
LC_ALL=

My locale is set to en_US   ISO-8859-1

What's the problem with this?

Thx
Norm

[Freevo-users] Help weird happenings!

2006-08-08 Thread mlists
Everything has been working great with my freevo box -- until today.

I haven't updated any software or changed anything today. Now when I
start to watch TVTime with my bttv tv card, I only get sound the first
time I watch a channel. Every time after that it doesn't unmute and
turn up line-in. It used to do that just fine! I checked my
local_conf.py and it has the CONTROL_ALL_AUDIO=1.

Also my tv_grab_na_dd and epg is acting weird. When I started the epg,
no data was loaded so I manually ran it. Same. I removed the
TV.xml.pickled file and TV.xml files and re-ran things and now I only
see data up to the half-hour I'm watching.

Suggestions?

Thx
Norm

I'll try the audio.device.alsa_passthrough_device setting.  I have xine working for me with digital spdif out using vdr_xine so I'm confused why it doesn't work for a DVD.  It's using the same xine config file and command lines.

This did the trick, however, I'm still having a problem with AC3 out.

[Freevo-users] Xine for VDR gives spdif out but Xine for DVD does not?

2006-07-04 Thread mlists
Hi there..

Using vdr-xine plugin and when I run it, the following xine process is
running:
tv6311 1  0 09:35 ?00:00:00 /usr/bin/xine --hide-gui
-pq -g -B --geometry 640x480+0+0 --no-splash --stdctl -V Xv -A alsa
--no-lirc vdr-socket:/192.168.15.10#demux:mpeg_pes

When I insert a DVD and run it, the following xine process is running:
tv6317  5936 21 09:35 tty1 00:00:00 /usr/bin/xine --hide-gui
-pq -g -B --geometry 640x480+0+0 --no-splash --stdctl -V Xv -A alsa
--no-lirc dvd:///dev/hdc/

Run by the same user. Same command options. What I don't understand
though is that I get good spdif out from vdr-xine but static from the
dvd (like its sending digital as analog). Its coming through the spdif
channel of my receiver.

What could be the problem here? Does xine differentiate audio based on
source? I hadn't thought so -- reviwing the config in the .xine file, I
couldn't find anything.

Could it be that I need to connect a digital cable from my dvd drive to
the soundcard? Not sure if that would make any difference really.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,
if you're telling that TV is connected to the analog output and the rest of
the system is connected to the digital out port of the _same_ audio card,
then I don't think there's much you can do. That delay is somewhat generated
by the audio card itself, and it shouldn't be. I remember doing something
just for fun: I attached both the audio out on my SBLive just to power more
speakers, and they were perfectly in sync.

Why would you say its impossible?  Is there not a way to tweak the audio sync to the video?  I can turn off the analog audio -- I don't want it if I'm listening via spdif anyways.  Its just that is slightly out of sync to the video.

[Freevo-users] SPDIF Out - Xine Alsa, audio/video out of sync

2006-06-25 Thread Mlists
As the subject says, I have spdif out working with xine. My config:
XINE_VO_DEV  = 'Xv'
XINE_ARGS_DEF = '--no-lirc'
XINE_AO_DEV = 'alsa'

Its not out by much, but its out -- if I turn up the volume on the TV,
which is regular sound-out, there's an echo between the two as well.

Any suggestions? I use vdr-xine -- hence the need for xine to work :)

[Freevo-users] spdif out working for Xine but not Mplayer

Hi all,

I'm using Freevo with my vdr-xine-network setup and have spdif out with AC3 working for it.  When I put a DVD in, however, mplayer just gives static.  Like its playing the AC3 digital data over the analog speakers.

I haven't found any successful switches to use for this -- any suggestions?

I'm using a Diamond Xtreme 7.1 with ArchLinux.

hehe.. a bit behind on your email? Thanks for getting back to me
though! Actually, I did all that the wiki indicated -- using the
--prefix, etc., with no luck so I basically gave up for the time being.

I did notice that my favorite linux distro now has freevo 2.0 has a
installable package so I think its almost time for me to re-install my
HTPC and install Arch Linux. I should be able to install/uninstall as I
need to fairly easily. For those experienced Linux users --

Thanks for the hints.

I installed Freevo 2.0 into /fv2 but when I try to launch it, it
complains about my existing config file. How can I stop it from
looking/using my existing files?

If I do change my conf_version to 8.00, it fails with errors about
plugins under the python tree and not /fv2 -- again, its using existing
files when it shouldn't?

[Freevo-users] What's the current state of Freevo?

2006-05-10 Thread Mlists
I know Freevo 2 is being worked on -- is it in any state for people to
try out? Are there instructions out there on how to do it?

One important thing for me is the vdr-xine plugin -- have some plugins
been migrated to the new version?

I use both a tv-card in the freevo box and connect to a vdr box via
xine-network so I'm hoping to at least maintain that functionality. I
wouldn't mind helping with some new plugins and such but don't want to
work on the existing version if the new one changes a bunch of things.

Thx

Re: [Freevo-users] boot into freevo

2006-04-01 Thread Mlists
Another way to do the booting into freevo is to avoid the window manager
completely.

In /etc/X11/gdm edit the Xsession file

Look for:
echo "$0: Beginning session setup..."

Then insert:

exec /usr/bin/freevo

exit 0;

Away you go. You will see a grey screen on starting Xwindows, but
that's normal.

Good luck.

Let me start out by saying; I know bits and pieces of info, so I might not be 100% correct (or even 10%). You can receive a digital signal with alot of the available cards but I believe that the US cable companies haven't opened up the system to allow them actually decode the signal. So you will still need to fork the signal through the cable box first unless you are using an HD antenna.

Not entirely accurate -- I know that Rogers here in Canada offer the same channels digitally as they offer in their analog package unencrypted so you can pick them up with the right card.

North America use ATSC for its digital signal so look for a card that supports ATSC.  I don't think VDR supports a ATSC plugin, but I do know that MythTV does.  Don't know about Freevo natively.

Re: [Freevo-users] line input not muting/unmuting when playing tv with mplayer

I had the same problem and solved it by explicitly setting the input
device in the local config file... it's rem'd out near the top.

Hope it works for you.

[Freevo-users] Need help with setting Events with VDR

2006-01-08 Thread Mlists
Hi all,

I have vdr_xine installed and working. I have a xine keymap setup but I
don't know how to configure Freevo's Events to send the right keymap
when I press a button on my remote.

Example: Xine's keymap for vdr sends the VDRButtonGreen when the key
'x' is pressed.

What would I put into the local_conf.py file to map the event of
pressing the GUIDE button?

I've tried to go through the docs but I don't seem to be getting it
right... any help would be appreciated.

[Freevo-users] Questions for a New user

2006-01-07 Thread Mlists
Hey all, I've been a long-time user of vdr. I decided to give Freevo a
try since it had many features that I wanted -- like the nice menu
system and audio plugins like Shoutcast. Well, I think I'm hooked.

Built up my system and its running pretty good. I just have a few
questions.

My Hardware:
P-III 800, nVidia Gforce4 with tv-out (working fine it seems). 512Mb
ram, 12Gb disk.

1) In the system I have an analog card. Mplayer won't play the analog
card output. When I use the TVTime plugin, it works fine. TVTime
doesn't give me the best default quality so either I need a way to
adjust the brightness/color, etc., in tv-time or I'm hoping MPlayer will
give me better results. I'm open for comments/help here.

2) I run a two layer VDR system. I have a backend system that has a
DVB card installed, running VDR. I have VDR installed on the Freevo
system in a client mode. I can watch TV using the vdr_xine plugin and
it works ok other then remote mapping I need to fiddle with. I also
found a plugin called vdrtv -- it failed to load so I haven't really
gone back to it. Am I using the best plugin for the job here?

Thanks to anyone who can offer input.

Norm
