[Freevo-users] directfb /G400 / tv-out Kernel config file

2003-07-14 Thread R. Scott Baer
I'm getting closer.. but not their yet..
I can start freevo with no errors.. but
the display still appears on my monitor and not the tv.
I do get a blue background.. that freevo sits in now.. and I'm assuming
that is the directfb background. So I thing directfb is working.. but its
not getting the right
display..

I have set the SDL_VIDEODRIVER=directfb with no luck.. (I think this is done
for you though in the latest release)

The problem may be in my kernel... if anyone who has directfb working
with a G400 would not mind.. could you send me your kernel config file..
preferably a rh9.. (directly.. don't want to litter the list with config
file)

Thanks for all your guys help...

Scott

2003-07-11 Thread R. Scott Baer

The best thing to do is rebuild the runtime yourself (or install from
packages for your distribution) since getting around this libc stuff
 will be non-trivial.

Ok.. I've built all the files... and installed them.
http://freevo.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/DocumentationPage_2fInstallDeps
1.14, 1.15
   -files are no-longer on htt://freevo.sourceforge.net/filename.tgz
1.19
   -spelling error
 python setyp.py build---should be setup.py
python setyp.py install ---should be setup.py

I now need to create the dll folder.
I see this is done in the /runtime/Makefile

If I try to run this file I get:

Please see the Makefile source and Wiki for more info!

But theirs not more info on how to do this.. that I've found.

Would it be possible to get the scripts that were used to build freevo-1.2.5
???
I would like to build compatible freevo-1.2.5.. where everything is the
same.. except that it was build with a newer glibc..(2.3.2). I would like to
make this into an rpm, or just tar up the dll folder so anyone can use it if
they like.

Do you have your /etc/directfbrc configured? What resolution is Freevo
setup to run at (in freevo.conf) and are you running as root?

my /etc/directfbrc:
/matrox-crct2
/matorx-tv-standard=ntsc

freevo.conf:
geometry = 800x600

and I am running as root..

Aubin

  my /etc/directfbrc:
  /matrox-crct2
  /matorx-tv-standard=ntsc

Why are those slashes there? Here's mine:
 -
 depth=32
 matrox-tv-standard=ntsc
 matrox-crtc2

sorry... the slashes arent their.. its a habit for me to putting a slash
before things now..
I dont have depth, but I can add that tonight...

DirectFB-TV doesn't support resolutions other than true NTSC/PAL out,
you should set freevo to 720x480 for NTSC. It might
be causing problems if SDL tries to resize the window to 800x600.

I was only able to get it working after setting the resolution to
 720x480.

I changed this.. but I'll need to try this when I get home to see if it
works...
damm job get in the way of everything...

thanks for your help

that didnt seem to do the trick..
I still got the same error :(

I did try: /usr/local/freevo/runapp /usr/bin/mplayer dvd://1 -vo
dfbmga:nospic and it worked fine... full screen movie (Minority Report)

correct.. I did not include them when I built this kernel.. and I verifyed
they are not loaded.

He said dfbmga was working through mplayer, which is why I didn't
suggest that... SDL_VIDEODRIVER might help, but SDL is supposed to use
the first available device, if you don't use X11 or fbcon, it should
 try dfb.
I did try to try this.. I'm not sure if this is an evn varable, or
something in freevo.
I exported the variable in my shell before I ran freevo... it didnt help.

Re: [Freevo-users] dfbmga and freevo

2003-07-02 Thread R. Scott Baer
if you are using the release from yesterday (1.3.2), you have to build sdl
yourself with the psdl12cvs-directfb09-16-tvout.diff patch. you can find
this patch somewhere in the freevo cvs.

OK.. I've successfully complied installed SDL-1.2.5 (
http://www.libsdl.org/ ).. with the patch.

then make sure you are using your
self-build .so sdl file and not the one in the runtime and finally start
freevo with the dfbmga option in the freevo.conf file.

I'm assuming the self-build.so file is not the real name.. I don't have a
file by that name anywhere on my system (yes, I tried).
I didn't see any sdl files in the freevo dir either..

What should this file be named... and should I assume that is should replace
the freevo version of the same file..
( mv.../xyz.so/usr/local/freevo//xyz.so ) of course after I
make a backup of the org.

[Freevo-users] dfbmga and freevo

2003-06-30 Thread R. Scott Baer
I've successfully complied my kernel, directfb, and MPlayer-0.90 and am able
to use the -vo dfbmga at a command line, and it displays the video on my tv.
every thing else is displayed on my monitor.

How do I get freevo to use the dfbmga, I edited the freevo.conf to use
dfbmga, but it gives me libarery errors.. I'm assuming because I need to
compile/recompile some of the code that comes with freevo.

Could someone that uses directfb help me out here...

Im using:

RH9
G400
DirectFB 0.9.18
Kernel 2.4.20 with fusion patches.

I'm at work right now.. so I cant get the exact error.. but will if needed.

Thanks for your time,

Scott

Re: [Freevo-users] Partition type for Freevo?

2003-06-16 Thread R. Scott Baer

Its a standard feature on all the UPS I've ever used... usually a serial
 port or more recently USB...

You can get all sorts of info from the UPS... run time, voltage, load etc
(depending on the type of UPS)...

Surely the partion type is a result of what the distro you are running
 supports?

Yes, most UPS's do.. and some even have their own linux software to shut
your system down.. if they dont, you can proboblly get it running with NUT,
(Network UPS Tools http://www.exploits.org/nut/ ).

the with the min, max, an close buttons. When I leave he, the comptuer
goes back in to fullscreen mode and looks fine.

 I'm running on:

 RH 9.0
 freevo: 1.3.2-pre4
