Re: Download problems

2003-03-21 Thread Kathryn Odell
I went to Version Tracker, just to find something to download. Won't
download there either. You can see I haven't been downloading anything for a
while. I went to my extensions and selected System 9.2 all. No change. I
chose all extensions; my computer freezes on startup. Do you think I need to
do a clean install?

Thanks, I'm at three bright and counting - there was only one the first
day. One is bright blue and exactly square in the middle of the screen
- makes DVDs virtually unwatchable.

Interesting . . .

2003-03-21 Thread Dan K
Here's an interesting tidbit I stumbled across on the ol' web-a-roni. . .
about new huge-screen 'Book and fawlty sub pixls:

Replace?
 Bright - five or more
 Dark - seven or more
 Combination - nine or more

Got that? Interesting to know this, though sadly I haven't got one . . .

Starting OS 10.2.4

2003-03-21 Thread Daniel Pinto

My Wallstreet 512K with PL 500 MHZ g4 has given me fits. Several times
in the past 6 months I have reinstalled sys 10. I believe i just broke
the code on what the problem is and would like some verification. I
have partitioned my disk into 8-gigs and whatever is left. OSX on the
first 8 gig partition and os 9.2.2 on the other. I could not get my
powerbook to restart in OSX until I copied OS 9.2.2 on the 8 gig
partition. after doing that the problem went away.

Comments please

Yeah, it does that sometimes. Running fcsk manually (as singleuser)
or in disk utility on the older machines will save you a lot of
heartache in the future. I would do it on my personal production box
(for cwis.biz) if the computer weren't actually sealed away in a
cabinet. I run it on lemlists.com via SSH about once a week because
that data is far more critical to me (and Dan Knight) and it has a
monitor and KB extension cord connected to it! :)

Yep, OS X actually runs a fsck at startup time. Unfortunately, it seems to
permanently take a long time for me, so I suppose I should run a disk
utility scan on it. This morning, when I woke my Pismo, everything was
quite funky and I ended up having to cycle it. On startup, the rotating
bars took forever, and then it actually restarted again on me -- and
started up quick and nice with almost no wait!

Wallstreet and USB

2003-03-21 Thread KADaggett
Has anyone had good luck getting USB to work on a Wallstreet running OS
9.2.2? Have tried two different cards which were advertised to work as
USB 1.1 using Apple "built in" drivers. Even tried the USB 1.4.1
additions. No luck. The card shows up on the desk top, but no USB
functionality for either camera, compact flash card/reader, or Epson
printer.

That gives me some idea, but I am hoping that Apple states something
along the lines of "1,000,000 customers pre-ordered a 17" Powerbook" or
something like that in their quarterly report. My tiny knowledge of
manufacturing technology tells me that 4 weeks of notebook production
from a factory should mean more a metric ton of notebooks are being
produced :)

The information that I have states that pre orders are going to take until
mid-to-late April to finish shipping. Then the normal orders will ship and
stores will start stocking them.
