warranties

2003-07-18 Thread Michel Treisman
Hi!

I have been offered a new and unused Titanium powerbook which the
seller says he recently obtained from an Apple employee at Cupertino.
But there is no proof of purchase with the machine.

Without proof of purchase would I have no warranty, if there is a major
failure of some sort in the first year? I thought one could tell the
age from the serial number. Would that be sufficient for a warranty?

Does anyone know the answers?

Mike

I would be suspect that the powerbook is stolen and that would quite
possibly eliminate any possibility of warranty work from Apple!

The price of miniaturisation?
exactly. laptop drives are MUCH smaller and have to have a MUCH higher
data density. thus, they are always more expensive.

iBook Logicboard compatibility?

2003-07-18 Thread Kyle Lee
Will a mother board from an iBook 366 fit into an iBook 300 blueberry.
I know that the Firewire port and the AV port on the 366 would have to
be accommodated since the iBook 300 had neither of these. Does anyone
have any experience with this?

Well aren't you the assiduous devil. Don't ask me, ask Seattle police. And
they don't check serial numbers, they check reports of stolen items PLUS ANY
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS. If you marked the serial # down anywhere,
they check it against yoru report and items found. That simple. There is a
national data base of police reports. that simple. And there has been for
many many years. Jiminey Cricket.

Re: warranties

2003-07-18 Thread Kyle Hansen
On 7/18/03 4:40 AM, Michel Treisman [EMAIL PROTECTED] Spew into the
Cybertrough:

I can run the serial number (I'm an Apple Authorized Service Provider) for
you right now to tell you if it's ever been registered or if Apple has any
notes about it. Send it to me offlist.

Re: warranties

2003-07-18 Thread Shawn Harley
Mike,

If the Titanium is a model that has been updated more than 1 year ago
in Apple's product line, do yourself a favor and save a lot of steps by
contacting Apple with the serial number and tell them you would like to
register it. A co-worker bought an iBook (300mHz) from Sears on
closeout new in the box in 2001 and didn't register it until a few
months after purchase. A key popped off and the speaker acted up. He
called to get warranty work performed and a proof of purchase was
required even after he had registered it online because the product was
well beyond the date of discontinuation. My Dad bought a G4 iMac in
April 2003 that had been repackaged with updated software through Apple
and sold new by Micro Center. Apple Care was purchased at the same
time, and when we registered Apple Care over the phone, proof of
purchase was required because of the age of the machine. In both cases
the proof of purchase was required to validate the full warranty. Check
that first, then worry if it is stolen.

Shawn
