That was for the Brick style adapter..not the Yo yo.

Some of the Pismos qualify for a new yo-yo adaptor under a U.S. Apple
exchange program. This includes PowerBook G3 systems shipped from May
1998 until March 2000.

Anyone who owns a Wallstreet, Lombard, or Pismo should check to see if
their Powerbook adapter qualifies for the exchange. There is a chance it
could be a fire hazard. 6 adapters have overheated, with no injuries reported.

Re: DVD on Wallstreet

2003-08-31 Thread Krevnik

Sorry, but the Wallstreet and Lombard cannot play DVDs in OS X. OS X uses
the video card for DVD playback (so no PC Card decoders will work), and the
RagePro LT is woefully underpowered for that sort of thing... (And Apple has
incomplete LT drivers, as you probably know by now)

I have the DVD card and the DVD/CD drive. I was able to play DVDs
fine but then I put on OSX (Jaguar) and 9.2.2. I can no longer get
my DVD to work. When I click on DVD Player it gives me Error 3.

Is anyone else using the DVD card on the Wallstreet and might be able
to tell me what to try to get it working again. Thanks.

OS X and the newer OF implementations on the B&W/Lombard and later iMacs
don't require boot sectors to find an OS and launch it. The PCI PowerMacs
and the Beige G3-era machines can partially implement this, but are limited
to 8GB. (This may not be 100% accurate, so don't quote me)

Madsonline makes a great model PS for the Pismo and it is much more
durable.

SInce it's already broken, split it apart and see if you can fix it.
The brick on my WallStreet failed and it was simply the DC output cord
connection to the brick. I split it apart (it will never be as pretty
as it was), stripped and soldered the DC cord, made a new strain relief
with a gob of black silicon rubber, and put the case back together with
cyanoacralate glue.

Greetings,

The yo-yo adaptor on my pismo died today. For the last week or so I've

some experimentation with a multimeter and checking the specifications
for various Apple power adaptors, I've found that the power adaptor
for
a 1400/cs --- model no. M4896 --- is a (temporary?) solution. The
machine is running fine and appears to be charging the battery.

Two questions:

1. Is running off the 1400/cs adaptor a bad idea? I needed to do so
for
at least long enough to transfer some important files from the pismo
to
my ipod in case the machine has further problems. Apple's support site
says the pismo takes 1.2 (1.3?) amps, but the adaptor that came with
it
was labelled as giving 1.87 or so amps ... just like the 1400/cs
adaptor. The older G3 powerbooks are listed as being compatible with
the 1400/cs adaptor, but the G3 (firewire) isn't. So, should I stop
using the 1400/cs adaptor immediately?

2. Where might one buy an inexpensive, durable power brick for the
pismo. Apple Canada wants $140 for a new yo-yo adaptor, and I don't
trust the design of that particular adaptor. I searched the list
archives, but I couldn't come up with a search term that worked, even
though I'm certain that I've heard this problem mentioned several
times.

Email responses would be best if I'm putting my pismo at risk by
running on the 1400/cs adaptor, since I'm getting list digests.
Thanks,
 Brian

Powerbook (firewire) power adaptor failure

2003-08-31 Thread Brian Burge Hendrix
Greetings,

The yo-yo adaptor on my pismo died today. For the last week or so I've

machine, even when it appeared to be plugged in (at both ends). After
some experimentation with a multimeter and checking the specifications

Re: AC-Driven Speaker Static

2003-08-31 Thread Stuart Saunders
Or it could be a bad connection. Try twisting the plug in the socket
while listening to see if it stops. Also clean the plug with Scotch
Brite. Clean the socket by putting the plug in and out a few times.
Good luck.

It sounds like it might be power line interference or interference
from
your monitor. If it's monitor interference, you might try moving the
wires to see if you can reduce it. If it's power supply noise, then
good luck, there's not much you can do about it except spend more
money
on better stuff.
