It's hard to answer. Why do you want to buy an iBook in the first place?
Depending on your motives, it might justify the price or not...

brain dump n.: [common] The act of telling someone everything one knows
about a particular topic or project. Typically used when someone is going to
let a new party maintain a piece of code. Conceptually analogous to an
operating system core dump in that it saves a lot of useful state before an
exit. "You'll have to give me a brain dump on FOOBAR before you start your
new job at HackerCorp." See core dump (sense 4). At Sun, this is also known
as `TOI' (transfer of information).

No problemo. BTW, my name is in fact Run. It's pronounced "Roune." I
think your first issue is in fact what another poster brought up, that the
drivers in each OS do not recognize all cameras. An upgrade card for your
Wallstreet couldn't hurt, and nor would mem upgrades. FCP or FCE, in fact,
even iMovie love to have high headroom in the ram department. An iceBook or
a Pismo is not a bad way to go, and in some ways better than a TiBook for
general use as the early (and thus now low cost) TiBooks have crappy airport
reception, flimsy cases and icky hinges. Pismos are sturdy, cool and now
cheap to repair as parts have fallen in prices. A G4 upgrade exists as
well. And it will float up to a gig in ram. An iBook is also cool.
Excellent form factor, nice screen, sturdy, although some folk are
experiencing screen connection problems due to weak wire in the hinges.

If you install the developer tools then you get the Gnu C++
compiler. It is on the CD with 10.2 or as a download from

My Firewire card icon mounts on the desktop, but it is a broken icon. .

This is the third time you've asked this question.

iMovie expects to see the video camera at the built in Firewire
port. This is the way it is coded.

  From Apple (9/17/2003):

iMovie 2 requires the following:
A Macintosh computer with a 300 MHz or faster PowerPC G3 or G4
processor and built-in FireWire port
At least 64 MB of RAM (128 MB recommended)
A CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
200 MB of available (unused) hard disk space (4 GB recommended; 5
minutes of imported digital video requires about 1 GB of disk space)
A monitor that works with 800 x 600 pixel resolution and thousands of
colors (1024 x 768 pixel resolution and millions of colors recommended)
Mac OS 9.0.4 or later
QuickTime 4.1.2 or later
FireWire 2.4 or later (FireWire Support and Enabler extensions)
A digital video (DV) device, such as a camcorder or deck, with a
FireWire, IEEE 1394, or i.LINK port
A 4-pin-to-6-pin FireWire cable (for use with DV camcorders)
Viewing Desktop Movies on a TV or VCR from your DV device requires
appropriate connection cables

I use iMovie 2.1.1 in OS X. Not in Classic mode.

Microsoft Windows is dominant because so many people in the world
LIKE an inferior OS.

Command-Control-Power is what I usually use. You might want to go through

Dead Pismo (w/java upgrade)

2003-11-19 Thread Brendan Black
I am working on a Pismo that had coffee spilled into the keyboard.
The keyboard is NG but the book worked for a few weeks except for an
occasional startup problem. Now it won't start up at all. Does anyone
have any procedures to get it started, and failing that, is it worth
replacing the motherboard? The motherboard and processor card got the

I think Clyde WAS answering your question. Ever used a glue gun? You
can certainly push a nice glop of glue out onto any surface the glue
used maintains a high degree of viscosity yet harders to a nice rubbery
feel. It's a great solution and one I plan on testing.

problem is the computer recognizes the cardbus adaptor[icon is
mounted on desktop], but in iMovie 2 when you switch to Dv camera,
there is a solid blue screen with the message "camera not connected".
Why can't I capture from my camera?

A monitor that works with 800 x 600 pixel resolution and thousands of
colors (1024 x 768 pixel resolution and millions of colors
recommended)
Mac OS 9.0.4 or later
QuickTime 4.1.2 or later
FireWire 2.4 or later (FireWire Support and Enabler extensions)
A digital video (DV) device, such as a camcorder or deck, with a
FireWire, IEEE 1394, or i.LINK port
A 4-pin-to-6-pin FireWire cable (for use with DV camcorders)
Viewing Desktop Movies on a TV or VCR from your DV device requires
appropriate connection cables
I use iMovie 2.1.1 in OS X. Not in Classic mode.

Could be, but I'm really not sure. Maybe someone with a similar setup will
comment?

Problem is that not all of us have managed to KEEP the feet that have

are gone for good. He is looking for ways to replace feet lost in this
manner, much as I am, so I would appreciate an answer for his question.
