Yes, you should start from the CD to install, since there is no OS 9
installed yet, you can't use Classic to install it. It's like the chicken
and egg problem.

BTW, if you can (I guess it's too late but), try to install on a different
partition. In the event that you need to perform a clean install of OS X,
you won't have to re-install 9 if it is on a different partition/disk.

Robert:

I could be wrong here, but I thought that one must install OS 9 first
(before the installation of OS X) and then install OS X. Then Classic
should work.

Better wait for more informed listers to confirm this.

Did she try resetting the power manager? Did she try booting with

No, they are not. Only the hard drive and maybe the memory are compatible.

Re: WS Hinge replacement

Subject: WS Hinge replacement...om>
Does anyone have experience with pbparts.com in replacing the hinges with their steel
supports? Does the $69.99 cost cover the hinge/clutch too?

Ryan
I had them do the repair on my Wallstreet (and add RAM) and would
recommend them.
The sell the OEM hinges without installation, the aftermarket steel
hinges that they sell are only available with installation.
I recall it was $70 for OEM hinges, $80 for the steel hinges installed.
I'd suggest spending the extra $10...

I am thinking of just replacing them before they break, they seem to be losing
tension... unless
you know how to fix this issue?

 Please let me know.

And I we responded to with:

I've replaced mine with them.  Everything works really well now.

Can someone answer my question?

DiskWarrior problem

2003-11-30 Thread Michel Treisman
My hard disk is divided into four partitions. I am running on Mac OS X
10.3.1. when I run DW from my main partition it rebuilds the
directories for the other partitions, but does not replace them because
of "Mac OS service failure". I have tried to put it right with
DiskUtility, Repairing permissions, running DW on it from the CD.
But still I get this message about service failure.

Any ideas what this might be?

Panther crashing help viewer

2003-11-30 Thread Frank Cornew
All is good now: Nuked the Virex Help file in Computer > Mac OS X >
Library > Documentation > Help folder as indicated in
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/helpviewer.html, and all was good.
Datadirect.help.help may also be a culprit. Took me some time to rout
this link out of Macfixit or Apple support. Looks like a good
troubleshooting source.

As a recent convert to OSX, thought that I'd made it over the hump.
Now that everything is installed on the Pismo (good thing I
installed that 60gig travelstar), software is upgraded, less and
less classic calls, I've noticed that the help viewer crashes
everytime upon launch. Ick. Must have overreached with a haxie or
some bit of software, as I assume that the latest rev of Panther
doesn't do this.

Have started to uninstall much of the add on stuff, but no success.
Any equivalent to booting with extensions off in the manner of OS9?
Miss conflict catcher or even extensions manager at this point.

Re: Can't SwapHardDriveInWallstreet

2003-11-30 Thread Andrew Kershaw
Just a question: Have you tried zapping the PRAM? The Wallstreet is
probably looking for the startup disk that was originally the 2GB
drive. Removing it confused the 'book. Zapping the PRAM will reset
the startup drive info, and the Wallstreet will boot from whatever
drive is bootable and connected.

Peace,
Drew
