Sorry, wrong list :-(

Op 6-feb-04 om 7:32 heeft Marc het volgende geschreven:

I'm using a 120GB in my B&W and want to get another one. Would a PCI
ATA card make a noticable difference over the internal bus I'm using
now? Should I go for for Serial ATA or is the B&W to slow for that
anyway?

Any advice?

Thanks, Marc

Buying Replacement Pismo Batteries: Experiences?

2004-02-05 Thread Hoju Dingo
Hi Folks

I'm considering a new Pismo Battery (maybe I may also get the existing
one
exchanged, but later). I was wondering about the availability and
compatibilty of Lithium Ion Extended Life Batteries for my Pismo:

http://www.truedataonline.com/xq/asp/file.item/itemID.APB-M7318/qx/
11.1V 5400mAh 12.5% Higher Capacity than the original Apple battery!
Anybody got any experience with these? Probably it wouldn't make
sense for me to try to ship a couple of these over here to Ozstrayla
but maybe similar ones are available here? Maybe I might get lucky (?)
in the coming weeks while I am visiting South Korea; despite all the
PC's there are actually Apple store there too and prices may be
more reasonable ... pricing here is near A$280 (or $360 from Apple).
Thanks
Dingo.

So far it sounds like its a 10.3 only release ... not sure if Apple
will release a 10.2 version, it seems unlikely since 10.2 is still at
Safari 1.0 ... they should though.

Pat,

What are we looking at?

The page has been removed to which you are refering to.

I would be interested in seeing what it is as I'm trying to set up my GPS on
my Pismo.

I have been looking into GPS software for OS X I believe I have found
most everything out there. There are a few people over at geocaching.com
that are developing software, but it would be great to have Garmin's apps
work natively in OS X. I found this while searching

macsignup.html

If you would, check it out and if you feel the need, sign it. It is
definitely a worthy cause.

Thanks for the help!!!

deleted data recovery: urgent help needed

2004-02-05 Thread gf sciacca
so as it happens, I've accidentally trashed the entire content of a
partition holding an ongoing project on my TiBook under X.3.2.

I've trashed it and emptied the trash by accident. One or two files
contained data I have no backup of since a about a week, meaning that a
lot of work is lost. I know I'm the culprit, I'm just trying to recover as
much as I can, if there's any chance.

I have done very little after that on the machine concerned, basically
only realising that norton "file saver" was not enabled, oh great. The
erased partition was a data only partition, no system on it, so I'm
positive I've not overwritten anything in there.

Any suggestion as how to recover the erased data?

Please CC to my address as I'm on digest

cheers, gianfranco

Caution. Good sentiment but caution. I'm in the restaurant business
and have exposure to owners of various ethnic derivations many of
whom are reputed to have organized crime connections.

They are charming people but I have no illusions, and I do NOT admire them.

Jimmy Hoffa may well have helped the Teamsters but at what price to
their reputation? Remember the Faustian "bargain".

To bring it back to computers...we seem to have come into an era of
low inflation and real bargains in technology, and in fact we seem to
get more and pay less all the time. But is anyone really satisfied
with the state of tech support these days, for example? Something
has to give and it's usually US.

Oh, BTW, I had 3 years of HSchool Latin, 2 were under a lovely lady
named Mrs Aldridge who had a masters from Columbia and studied under
Moses Hadas, foremost Latin scholar of the last century. Now you
cannot find the mother language on the course list in many schools.

One thing that came to mind when I read your message Harry is that I can now
display the navigation tree (a Java applet) from the BEA's WebLogic console.
Safari is the only browser that can do it. Explorer and the latest Mozilla
won't display anything. Of course, the applet loads and displays fine in
Explorer on Windows. Unfortunately, Safari is also the only browser that
can't display the content of the setting from the same console page :-(

Seems to work well. You can now tab to any link and controls on the page, so
that is kind of handy. However, sometimes when you start with the URL, it
will insist on cycling on any opened tab, stopping for the close button and
then for the tab name, which seems to me as a bug. So, if you have a few
tabs, it may take a little tabbing until you get to your displayed page...

Thanks. I thought of that but it failed on repeated attempts. Just now I
tried again and it worked. Go figure.

I'm looking forward to Mac GPS software, as I sure hate having to use a PC,
which really means I rarely use the GPS.

What is the translation of the latin? Is it that old Jimmy Hoffa saw "Don't

GPS software

2004-02-05 Thread Pat Heidingsfelder
I have been looking into GPS software for OS X I believe I have found
most everything out there. There are a few people over at
geocaching.com that are developing software, but it would be great to
have Garmin's apps work natively in OS X. I found this while searching

If you would, check it out and if you feel the need, sign it. It is
definitely a worthy cause.

Thanks for the help!!!

Hi Dan, well I wiggled the cable and made sure everything was seated
and
plugged in and to no avail. How do I find the make and model of my
screen?
Will any LCD of the same make and model work, will the connector be the
same, will it take my cable? Will one from a Dell or IBM work, if it
is th=
e
correct one of course? Thanks for your help and suggestions. Jim

The Pismo screens I have replaced have all been Samsung, part number
LT141X7-124. The screen from a Sony Vaio with G or F in the model is
the same, as are the IBM 1400i/1500i and Compaq 1692.

Kanga vs. Wallstreet - pricing

2004-02-05 Thread Beniamino Cenci Goga
Any idea why the Kanga is way more expensive that most Wallstreets on
the e-bay, even more than the rev. II with backside cache. Is it
already a collector stuff?

Sounds like the Sound Card loose in its socket or that the power plug on
the Sound Card is breaking loose from the card. Disassembly and
inspection are in order.

I gotta wiggle it, or prop it up on a stack of index cards. Even so, it comes loose.

OT: Need Airport Card

2004-02-05 Thread Andrew Johnson
I know I should post this to the swap list, but efforts to join and
post to that list have been constant frustration.

So, I need an original Airport card for use in an iBook 900MHz. I'd
like to spend ~$50 all said and done. If anyone has a spare one they
wouldn't mind parting with, or know a source for purchasing them
cheaply online, I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks,
Andrew

Paul,

What do you mean, "will not consistently"?
