DVD media.

2004-07-19 Thread Marcin Wichary
Which media the newest PowerBook SuperDrive is able to burn to? I
don't know that much about DVDs, but apparently there are a couple of
incompatible standards. Apple's site mentions only DVD-R and DVD-RW
[1], but I was able to successfully burn DVD+R, and the just inserted
DVD+RW was also detected and is apparently ready to be toasted.

Could anyone please shed some light on this?

Re: OT: iTunes and iPod

2004-07-19 Thread Steve Fuller
1. Load all the tunes on the PC first, then plug the iPod into the Mac
(if you start on the Mac, the PC cannot read the iPod and you have to
initialise it for the PC, losing your songs).
Itunes for Windows formats the iPod as a fat32 file system, which OS X
can read. Itunes for OS X formats the iPod as an HFS drive, which
windows cannot read.

determine speed of SMS module

2004-07-19 Thread Mikael Byström
I'm trying to determine the speed of this module:

SMS 128MB A006628 /
6S16641BELNTUV (Separate Label)
It also says FM Computer Components Q31732 on a third label

The chips say:
F (with lines above and under) Japan
81164842A-100LFN
9816 M26Z

Is there an online service where I can find this info about old SMS
modules or can you guys help me deteremine the speed?
I've used this in a Powerbook G3 / 266 so it's either PC-66 or PC-100 I
suppose.

I couldn't find this module on the SMS Systems web.

On my Lombard, OS 8.6 works better than 9.0.4, 9.1.1,
9.1.2, 9.2.1 and 9.2.2
I'm very happy with 8.6 and the FREE Panther (Tiger
will be soon installed from the same source).
I made some changes on 8.6 with ResEdit and it looks a
little different (replaced the Keyboard flags, the
StartUp Screen the DVD icon, etc).
I don't need 9.2, because it eats more space and adds
nothing (I replaced the 6GB HD for a 60GB one). I
prefer to burn discs with Toast (Multi session, CD-RW
support and a few things that 9.2 don't have).
That's why I keep OS 8.6 and for Classic, ResEdit can
replace the version number of the System so OS X can
use 8.6 as Classic without problems and FASTER.
Really Thanks for your advice.

Very few corporations will accept unsolicited technology submissions,
much like very few movie production companies will accept unsolicited

You want to sell your script? Get an agent. Then, at least they know

You want to sell your invention?
Get a patent, then set up a corporation to license the technology, and
you'll find that they are generally more willing to deal. Expensive?
Yep, it is. If it's as truly revolutionary as you say it is, though,
it's worth the investment; licensing fees for it from a few large
corporations could make you a wealthy man.
I have no faith in the patent system. It is said that it costs about
15,000 US to get a US patent. It is also said that 97% of inventions
fail

In my country even the patent office quotes a figure of 99%.
Having had other promising inventions denied patents by hostile patent

If you get a patent, do you know what it is? Simply a license to sue!
Spend more money.
Until the (total) patent system becomes less of a rip off of inventors,
I will do my best to encourage other inventors to 'fuhgetaboutit'.
