Re: Anyone here use virtual PC?

While I feel sure that they aren't going to make any effort whatever to support this (why should they? there's no money in it...) I also can't imagine that they'd make even a tiny effort to keep it from working either. Again, why should they...it's just a tiny fraction of the market. People wanting to run Linux on VPC on a Mac aren't even a nuisance to MS...not even a curiosity. As far as I understand it, MS's main reason for buying VPC was, as an earlier poster said, for its virtual server potential - the ability to run several Windows servers on one machine, possibly on several different versions of Windows. Without getting into black helicopters territory, it does seems plausible that they wouldn't like the idea of someone running a Windows server thinking hey, with VPC I could also run linux with Apache on this machine, instead of paying out for IIS. So there could be a business case, in their eyes, for disabling linux support. Anyway, we'll find out :) TimH -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: Replacement Pismo DVD

The problem I have is that I want a drive with a faceplate that matches the drive slot. All the Mac upgrade stores that I have looked at sell drives that have a standard flat faceplate at twice the cost of the drive. I am looking for somebody that sells a drive with the right front or a drive that is compatible with the cover off the LG. The faceplate on the LG is not easy to remove, but it can be done with patience and working slowly. I have been told that the LG faceplate fits onto the Samsung SN-324 24x Combo drive. This is a very nice drive that I've used in a Pismo in both 9 and X. Not set to Master, so it is not recognized by the OS or Toast after hot swap or wake from sleep; no booting holding down C key, but you can boot holding the Option key. Should be able to find it in the $60-70 range. Good luck. Chris -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Microsoft Word Blues

I did assign the command the keyboard shortcut 'Command + Shift + V'. What it does is present me with a dialog where I can see which in which format is the text in the clipboard. When I want the copied text to follow the document attributes, I choose Unformatted text. I haven't found a paste command that would paste the text unformatted directly. -Laurent. (Word 2004) I tried creating a macro consisting of: Paste Special, check Unformatted Text, OK. But this did not work. It inserted the text in source format. So it seems there is no way round an unnecessary extra operation every time: choose Destination Format with the smart button, or choose Unformatted Text with Paste Special. Pismo yo-yo adapter in Europe
I can't read the fine print on th back. Will a yo-yo adapter from the USA work on 220v and 50hz? As far as I can tell this is the basic yo-yo adapter with the silver apple logo on top. I know I need plug adapters if the electricity part works. Brian -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: Interchangeability of ATA HDDs
Yes. The Toshiba is listed as compatible with interface ATA-2, 3, 4, 5 or 6. The Seagate is listed as Ultra ATA/100. The System Profiler in the Pismo says ATA-4. Are ATA drives interchangeable so that I can use the Seagate drive in the Pismo? Thanks in advance. Herb Goodfriend -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and...
