I have a 900mhz G3 iBook, it has QE.
I'm more in the budget of 5-600MHz...
16MB is the minimum for Quartz Extreme. None of the 500mhz models have
that much VRAM, and you have to ask about the 600mhz machines - first
rev doesn't, second rev does. You can tell by the location of the reset
switch - if it's on the side with the connection ports, it has the 16MB
video card. I have one with 16MB, Apple refers to it as the iBook
(16VRAM) in their spec database. It will do the cube version of fast
user switching, meaning QE is supported.

Hi Pat,
I assume you are referring to "UDF Volume Access" which is not
working for you. The first link below talks about the different types
of UDF CDs. That may be your situation.

I haven't tried to read a UDF CD in 9.2.2. I know I had to add a
couple of 3rd-party extensions for UDF support in OS 8.5/8.6. I'm not
sure if they would even work in 9.2.2. If you want to try them you
can find information and links at .
Look under UDF Untilities.

I also have a Control Strip Module called "UDF/ISO/Joliet Enabler"
but I'm not sure where I picked that up. You may want to Google it
and see if you can find it, if you're interested. Once again, this
was under 8.5/8.6. I don't know if, or how well, it will work under
9.x.

HTH,

Bob

Bluetooth for Pismo

Can anyone recommend a good Bluetooth add on for my Pismo. Ideally, I

Ideally, I'd love to use this Card Bus slot for something. Thanks in

If your SE phone has an IrDA (Infrared) port [such as T68i and later],
you can use GSM Remote [check on VersionTracker] to connect it to the
Pismo under OS9. This will allow you to back up your phone number
information to Pismo.

You can do the same (& more) on OSX if you use the free Ericsson Client
[again see VersionTracker]. It can connect via IrDA & Bluetooth, and
allows you to back up your phone numbers, camera pictures etc.

Wallstreet and UDF

mount a UDF disc! It wants to initialize it. The UDF extension is
there but not working. I have verified the disc is good using my iBook
and 10.3.5. I also tried to reload OS 9 then upgrade to 9.2.2, but
nothing seems to work. I have not formatted and reinstalled, just
installed new system from within the OS. What should I try next?

Re: PowerBook G3 vs. iBook (Ice) - Screen ???

2004-11-04 Thread geno endicott
I have a 900mhz G3 iBook, it has QE. The last couple G3 iBooks had 32meg ATI
Mobility Radeon 7500, which do QE.

Depending on the iBook you are also moving into a computer
that uses Quartz Extreme, which also just gives the screen a
little more detail, things move a little better, etc.
I'm talking G3 Ice Book, early, they don't have QE, isn't it only G4?

Re: PowerBook G3 vs. iBook (Ice) - Screen ???

2004-11-04 Thread geno endicott
I used to have a Pismo and a Wallstreet, then moved to a Ice Book. You get the
same real estate with all three meaning same res 1024x768. But I find the iBook
screen sharper and brighter. It just looks like a cleaner image. Depending on
the iBook you are also moving into a computer that uses Quartz Extreme, which
also just gives the screen a little more detail, things move a little better,
etc.

I got the 12inch iBook just for the fact that it's smaller then the 14inch. The
screens hold the same amount of pixels so they show the same thing the 12inch
just fits it in a smaller space.

PowerBook G3 vs. iBook (Ice) - Screen ???

2004-11-04 Thread Larry le Mac
My wife currently uses a PowerBook Lombard with a 14.1" TFT
screen which is good (I've used several Wallstreets and Pismos
and I like the screen), however I have never had an Ice Book.
How do the screen compare ?
What about the 12" @ 1024x768 compared to the 14" ???

I had a problem with a recent FireFox release - the program ran and
displayed pages but the menubar never appeared. I went into my library and
removed all traces of mozilla. When I restarted it worked. You might want to
give that a try.

Also, have you tried creating a new account and running it from there? You
might have something going on in your account that is interfering.

Re: FireFox

2004-11-04 Thread Graham Welland
I can confirm that this is definitely the behavior of FireFox if you try to
run it from the .dmg file. Copy it to applications and then run it from
there. The trick of course is to be able to kill it in this state of
run/fail/run/fail etc

There are definitely some bugs with the browser though - the most annoying
one I've seen is where it spawns new windows but won't restore them from the
window menu - you have to click on the docked windows. Unfortunately it
doesn't happen all the time.

If you're meaning the inverter board I'm pretty sure that this card is
not a part of the diplay assembly in the titanium powerbooks. I think the
inverter board of the titaniums is to the left in the bottom case.
