Windows Wireless on a Mac Network

2005-03-11 Thread Bob

Anybody using a Windows98 notebook on a Apple ABS (wireless) network?

I'd like a recommendation on a dependable WiFi 803.11b PC card for
the Windows machine.

Oh, I'm using the ABS dial-up modem if that matters,

Thanks,

Bob

I have a Gateway and Dell desktop hooked up with this Pismo and an iMac
SE 400 and Airport base (Graphite)...Initially tried a Nextel card in
the W systems but it just wouldn't work...Switched to the Belkin cards
and they took off immediately and are working fine together with the
Macs. The Nextel cards just wouldn't see the ABS but the Belkin hooked
on instantly. I have Verizon DSL running to the ABS then out.

I have a lombard and have heard they are extended display capable (two

cinema displays -- can that work with the lombard???

An airport Extreme card and iLife are $79 each, so that's less than the
difference. The older one will come with iLife, but possibly the older
version.

But given that this is the Apple store, they may come with the current
version.

I'd say the $799 model is the better deal.
(and, off topic, but the Apple Store is selling iPod mini's for $179 in
the clearance section. Damn! Now my new shuffle doesn't look like such

I was really hoping to find a 14 but I suppose in a pinch this would
do, I would still do heavy editing on the 21 monitors attached to
the tower.

I can't seem to find the specs on the older ones on the Apple site,
any opinons on the price difference and airport/iLife?

Thanks! :)

used G3 prices??

2005-03-11 Thread Edwin Morrow
Hi,
I'm not to the list and trying to get an idea of what a used G3 would cost.
Looking for
something that would allow me to surf the net. Also like the idea of a laptop
to save
space. I have a powermac 7200/75 running os 8.6. I'd like to run a newer os
to take
advantage of new versions of some plug-ins. I've looked at a couple of used
models from
dealers, that were striped back to pretty basic machines. Couple of friends
told me they
were asking too much. Any ideas what I should pay for a pretty well optioned
machine, in
Canadian coin?? Also, for my needs, is this the best value or is it worth
looking at
older powerbooks too?

Thanks in advance for you help and thoughts.
Ed

Until recently (and I think it's a recurring deal) the Apple Store has
been selling refurb 12 G4/1.2 iBooks, with Airport extreme standard,
for $849, full 1 year warranty. That's a good deal.

Won't work. iBooks don't have pc card slots. Airport Extreme is the
only choice, beyond the generally dodgy USB adapters.

(and if that moves you towards a Powerbook, the 12 Powerbooks don't
have 'em either)

Or a bridge that hooks into the ethernet port (such as I have on my

Wireless USB adapter driver

2005-03-11 Thread Pierre Boivin
Is there a generic OS X driver for a wireless LAN USB adapter? There is
a lot of inexpensive PC adapter on the market and I just don't see why
none of them have a MAC driver.

Everything is ready to add another network connection in the preference
/ network menu but there is no provision for USB based network
connection.

Maybe in the Linux world something that can be adapted?
