I'm looking for one too. I'd like something with fax receiving
capabilities and either with ethernet port of Airport Express
compatible. Also Tiger compatible.

I've read very good things about the newest Brother units, especially
the 5480cn with ethernet port, around $180-200. But a quick trip to the
Brother web site says that receiving faxes is not supported on the Mac
OS. Too bad, because this is one of the things I'd like to do.

I am also looking at the HP 5510, which has had pretty good reviews.
It's now down in the $120-30 range, so reasonably priced. No ethernet,
but we do have an Airport Express, so maybe could use that to connect
all our home computers wirelessly. Has anyone used one of these? Any
feedback?

And what about Tiger compatibility? Anyone using an MFC with Tiger?

Yes it can; there is a modem in some of the AirPort Extreme Base

Re: TiBook Wireless - USB or PCMCIA ???

2005-05-14 Thread Larry le Mac
From: vicki Duggan [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Larry if you can find one I would go with the pcmcia
Orinoco gold card as you can use the airport software
and the signal on them tends to be better than the
airport anyway.
I'll see if they sell it here in Sweden, thanks!

EBay always has them also the Mac wireless cards.

I know I can get hold of them in the UK so if you have no luck in Sweden
drop me a line and I will locate one for you.

Malc do you have any Orinoco cards.

Chris, you can. Sign up for a free efax number. Whoever faxes you,
using a fax machine via phone of course, using your efax telephone
number, will actually be *emailing* you the fax as an attachment. If
you choose a free number it will be an out of town area code. I can
live with that. You can also, for a small monthly fee get an 800
number which is what I had in the last business I ran.

Wallstreet Saga, Part Deux - Woohoo!

2005-05-14 Thread Gene Osburn
My formerly problem child Series II Wallstreet is finally a
well-behaved member of the family!
My original assessment of the problem was more accurate than I thought.
It was the Charge Inverter that attaches to the Power Board, which
sits between the battery and expansion bays. I bought what was called a
Power Charge Inverter on ebay and installed it with only partially
successful results: the Wallstreet now saw the battery but wouldn't
charge it. I didn't notice at first that it's a two-piece assembly -
the Power Board and the smaller Charge Inverter piece. My second
attempt with swapped pieces worked! The old Power Board with the
new Charge Inverter charged my battery enough for 3-1/2 hours of
listening to Ricky Lee Jones and Allman Brotherssweet!

Yes, in OS 9, but not in X, though there are open source and
commercial drivers for the cards (IOXperts driver)

Re: WMP won't play on 10.4

Are you saying that there is no solution other than an Archive
Install?

Regardless of what caused the problem, it makes no sense to me that
deleting the application and Preferences, followed by a reinstall
would do the trick. However, I'm not the only one reporting that this
doesn't fix it.
