A Verizon rep told me the regular Palm software would work; this was
in response to a question about transferring contacts, calendars, etc
from an existing Palm Pilot to one of these. This was for the
College's Dean, he's got his Palm pilot surgically attached, canNOT
live without it, so this was a big deal.

To the mac it's supposed to be like any other palm pilot via USB.
Dunno about BT. I do know that their wireless networking service did
not work with the mac at the time; it may now, but at the time the
Deamn was looking at a 12 PB so it was moot, since it requires a
PCMCIA card.

We ended up not going with it; the mail app didn't play nice with our
server. The 850 does, but Verizon wasn't offering it yet.

Eject Removeables in OS 10

2005-06-15 Thread Stephen Bright
Hello list:

This is my first posting after leaving the list for several years. I have a
Pismo G4 with a nice
60 GB Travelstar HD in the expansion bay, but I'm having trouble telling OS 10
that I want to
eject the HD and install the DVD and vice versa. OS 9 handled this great, but
how do you do this
in OS 10?

Many thanks for anyone who has ideas or has solved this problem,
Stephen

Re: Palm Pilot Verizon sync

Subject: Synchronizing Treo 650
Date: Tue, 14 Jun 2005 22:35:18 -0600

I just ordered a Treo 650 as an upgrade to my Kyocera 7135 smart
phone (which will be for sale, if anyone is interested).

I couldn't get many details from Verizon Wireless about how this
phone syncs with Macs. I've been using Palm Desktop (I've never used
iCal) to sync via USB, but the Treo has Bluetooth as well as a
version of Palm OS.

Has anyone been using a Treo 600 or 650 and syncing it with a Mac?
I'd appreciate hearing about your experience.

Thanks!

Regards,

Harry Corsover

I have done this with the 7135. First you must have Palm Desktop
installed on your computer (free download from the Palm site). Version
4.2.1 works well for OSX10.3.9 (I will install Tiger this weekend).
Hook a cable from the phone to the USB port on the computer (I actually
have a serial plug on the cable that I run through a Keyspan USA 19HS
serial to USB adapter (I also use this adapter for my Garmin GPS and
with a reader for my fuel injection system on my motorhome). On the
Kyocera phone get the menus on the screen and push on the HotSync icon.
Then hit the sync icon and it will sync the comupter Palm Pilot and
the Kyocera Palm Pilot in just seconds.

As long as they're not in use (some application is using them or the
ap itself is on the ejectable), right click and eject or, for one
button mousers, control click and eject, or drag it to the trash.

I have noticed that with Tiger, I have to occasionally try it twice
before I can get it to work.

Lombard DSL snags

I recently did an upgrade from 9.1 to 9.2.2 on that dumb Lombard, which is
constantly locking up...Disk Warrior rebuilds but it will still lock up

TheCD drive clicks when it locks.

But now that I have the new router+modem configuration none of the internet
programs are working. Outlook Express doesn't work at all...says domain
server is not responding, tho it does on the faithful, but heavy G3 DT.

any ideas?
Thanks

Re: Eject Removeables in OS 10

2005-06-15 Thread Stephen Bright
Thanks, Keith:

I don't have a problem ejecting a DVD, but I'm having a problem REMOVING the
module and swapping
out the HD with the DVD drive in Tiger. OS 9 had those nice messages, it is now
safe to remove the
DVD drive. I don't think Tiger has any code to handle the Pismo's external bay.
I can eject the
DVD, insert the HD module, and Tiger doesn't see it. It still thinks it has a
DVD drive.

If there is someone who can do the expansion bay swap in Tiger, PLEASE let me
know. Thanks
Stephen

RAM for Powerbook - best not cheapest

2005-06-15 Thread Timothy Luoma

I'd like to max out the RAM on my Powerbook (15 / 1.5GHz).

http://www.crucial.com/store/ListParts.asp?mfr=Applemodel=PowerBook
+G4+1%2E5GHz+%2815%2Dinch+Display%29 lists them at $211 per 1GB.

I'd like to buy from Crucial because I've had good luck with them,
but wonder if others have had good experience with another vendor
that they would recommend. I don't want to go cheap-over-reliable.

I thought we had talked about this recently but couldn't find the
messages.

Thanks
