Re: PowerMac G5 1.6 or 1.8 gig single?

I've heard that are slight problems with the fan (ie it's a bit noisy now and then), is this something to be concerned about and should I ask the Apple Reseller to sort it out before I buy? It comes with a 12 month warranty so hopefully I should be covered if things go t i t s up... I currently have a Pismo which is cool as but a little on the slow side now that I'm really starting to get to grips with Adobe's Creative Suite for Graphic Design and Mapping work. What about running Virtual PC on it, or is this a big no-no? G4/ panther- poor public 802.11 redux
Hi all; I have the 10.4 12 with me again, my wife is typing away happily, I'm stuck still. I have KisMac on this time though and I think I see the issue- there are 2 PUBLIC (named, same name) networks- on on chan 1, one on chan 6. I think 10.4 is getting confused? I have an IP, a gateway, everything refreshes, but I can't even ping. I have set manually the 3 DNS servers that they are using here, plus added 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 but no joy. I don't see any way to force a channel to connect to- just a GUI with the name of the server- KisMAC is the only thing I have found that will show me channels, even. Is there a way to do this? Thanks, Brian -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Utilitunes
I have quite a few songs in my iTunes collection. Most are from my CD collection that I've been slowing adding to iTunes, as well as new purchases. I have not actively tried to get artwork for my albums added to iTunes, though. I'm wondering if it is possible to somehow have iTunes search the internet for the artwork to the albums that I already have in iTunes. Does anyone know how to do this? I found something at http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/ipod_itunes/utilitunes.html but I've never heard of Utilitunes before. Does anyone on this list have or use Utilitunes? For those who have it, what functionality, practically speaking, does it add to iTunes? Thanks, Claire -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Wireless driver
Just recently had the need (opportunity) to install a Lucent-branded WaveLAN Gold PC card into my Tibook, since I was outdoors at a local coffee shop. However, I couldn't get a signal at all and I didn't notice at the time if the lights on the card were working since it was daytime. I tried the same card at home on my wireless network, and still nothing. So I dug out another of the same card, and nothing happens. When I put either card in, I get the menu bar icon but the card doesn't show up in the Network pref pane. It's not the cards, because they still work in a 5300. And my PCMCIA slot still works, I can use it for the xD adapter for my camera or a firewire card. Incidentally, I've had the sourceforge driver installed for more than a year, since 10.2.something. Did Tiger break this driver? Is anyone using it successfully with 10.4? --- JSH TiBook -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: FireWire card for wallstreet

I would like some suggestions as to what type of FireWire card I should purchase for a Wallstreet II, running OS 9.1. Most of all I have seen are for OS X, but I have seen a Western Digital (number WDAD003-RNW) on ebay which the seller says is Mac compatable under OS 8.6 or higher. All suggestions will be helpful. Thank you all. Hi Ken, I've been out of town for a couple of weeks. I just read your post above and noted that you didn't seem to get any answers other than the dummy who quoted WiFi formation to you. :-/ This seems to be the nature of the G-Books list these days. People with serious, worthwhile questions are ignored and those with PowerBook vs iBook questions etc get dozens of replies. Anyway, Here's what I'm using in all of my Operating Systems (OS 8.6/9/10.2.4 -- haven't tried it in 10.2.8 yet, but it should work). I don't know if you can find this card now or not. I'm not sure if Macally is manufacturing it any more. I bought it used for $30 or so. It's a Macally FH-BUS2 Cardbus PCMCIA card. It has 2 FW ports on it and uses a dongle. It works great in all Operating Systems. If you're interested, maybe you can find a used one on the LEM swap list or ebay.
