with the swap list being closed to new members, other LEM lists I'm

post for sales items. It's not getting used much, really, but it is

Thats the fan spinning up. This seems to happen if your PRAM battery is dead.

Auto Connect to my Airport. . .

2005-08-14 Thread Zoltan Batiz

Hello all,

For some reason, after I changed ISP's, my Pismo refuses to
auto-connect to my Airport Network. I had to change my Airport network
settings from automatic to a specific network under the by default
join dialog. Normally, this wouldn't be a big deal, but since it's
not set to automatic, on those rare occasions when I'm actually out and
about with my Pismo, I have to remember to set it back to automatic
just to join a hot spot. Anyone know why this is? Should I delete my
network altogether and just create a new one? Here's the specs:

Pismo 500/1gigRAM/Airport card w/ Airport Base Station (snow). All
software is up to date, with exception of Tiger. I'm currently using
Panther 10.3.9.

Thanks for any input on this matter,

Zoltan

That's weird.

I am wondering what is the use of these little programs? Airport
lists all available wireless connection in the drop down menu. Isn't
that enough? Or is it something more than macstumbler and others
offer that the airport drop down menu list doesn't?

If you're not close enough to see it with your airport, you won't
know it's there now, will you? Jiwire is basically a database of hot
spots nationwide. Using it I can plan where I want to go to coffee
next week in San Jose or where I want to stay for the night. That's
not something I can really do simply by looking at the wireless AP's
the card is currently seeing.

I've got it reformatted, but it seems that it'll only reformat as an
MS-DOS drive (186.x GB, too). I've tried it using a variety of the
Mac OS choices, and it keeps failing--repair and verify both keep
giving me error messages. I suppose I can use it under the MS-DOS
setup to backup my HD? (I'd really prefer to have it in HFS/Mac OS
format tho!)

Thanks!

Maybe you can find someone locally who has the tools that ship with a LaCie
Drive. They can certainly do the different partitions with different file
systems on them.

Thats the fan spinning up. This seems to happen if
 your PRAM battery is dead.

Do you get a boot chime ?

How important is the pram battery in the Wallstreet?
At $45 shipped and involved installation, how much
difference would it make for a unit with a so-so
battery that's usually plugged in?

A wallstreet should still function with a dead PRAM. If you want to
keep the date and time correct you will need the PRAM battery.

What are you using to format the drive?

Have you tried the LaCie web site? See if they have a downloadable
version of Silverlining utility software.

It's not me, but the OP was trying to use the Disk Utility in OS X.

It doesn't appear to be there. It ships on the CD with LaCie drives, but you
can't download it from the site for free.

Re: Partitioning and formatting

2005-08-14 Thread Bryan Forbes
I was trying to do this the other night for a friend who has a LaCie
drive. We were using the version of LaCie software from
Versiontracker. Is this different than the stuff on the cd?

It wouldn't let us format for both his XP machine and his Powerbook?
Has anybody successfully partitioned a LaCie (using Lacie's software)
for both a Windows Mac box?

I was getting ready to call LaCie about this exact issue on Monday.
