Re: Dead screen continued,part 2

2005-09-17 Thread John Siple
The cable itself is very simple. There are all of six wires split
into two branches. Two of the wires go to the reed switch. The other
four are low-voltage video signals. Continuity isn't a problem. The
problem is getting to the cable. In order to access both ends of the
cable you need to disassemble the top and bottom halves of the iBook
and also the screen. Once this is done you can just use a sewing
needle as a probe in the connectors and an ohmmeter to ring out each
wire in the cable. If you find that all six leads show close to zero
resistance and the reed switch closes in the presence of a magnet,
then you probably have an inverter board problem and you've just
removed the cable for no reason. :)

Re: Burning DVD's on a Pismo

2005-09-17 Thread PeterH5322

I have never successfully created a DVD, in toto, but I have
 created partial
 DVDs.

The problem might be that your DVD burner is too recent, too
powerful, etc.

Posible, as these are very fast drives, and will burn a dual-layer DVD at
2.4X, and a single-layer DVD at 8X.

Those date rates are just too high for the flimsy interconnection
provided to the Lombard and Pismo media bay.

Forcing burning down to 2X might be a possible option.

I notice that my Firewire case has an 80-wire/40-pin cable from the
Oxford chipset to the drive.

QT Pro Authorization?

2005-09-17 Thread mginn5
I just updated QT from 6.0.2 to 6.0.3 on my 8600/G3/500 by first removing all
QT parts (saved on Zip carts), because the installer insisted updating wasn't
necessary. Now it won't accept my QT Pro key number as valid. It worked OK on
my Pismo, what gives?

Powerbook screen

2005-09-17 Thread MMB

Hi all:

The recent discussion about screens is unsettling my G4 Titanium 867
powerbook :-)

I need to ask advice about something that I have noticed in the last
two weeks. When I boot up (or when the screen lights up after sleep) it
has a pink hue. Quite bright, and this fades within a minute or so to a
normally coloured screen.

Is this something I should seek attention for? (The orginal screen was
replaced about 15 months ago after going green!)

I am hoping someone can comment on this.
