Check the PC and make sure that, in Printer Settings, Properties,
the printer is shared. You may need to know the exact address of
your printer, if it is indeed networked.

Though I cannot say if this will work as I have worked with PCs
that are set to not share a network printer, which is shared by
quite a few people in our office.

the cord that came with the card has a four pin plug at one end and
six pin at the other, and the connections on both computers require
six-pin (at least that's what I assume: the larger size is required
on both ends, anyway). Is this the proper description of the

Or is something more specific and harder to find required? And if

Re: mac to windows printing

Vicki,

Have you tried going to PREFERENCES in your Powerbook, go to sharing
and check printer sharing. I did this to my desktop Mac Mini (where
the printer is connected to the USB) and my powerbook G4 (which runs
wireless thru my NetGear) and it works ok.

You have to turn on PRINTER SHARING too with WINDOWS PC.

I am not familiar though on how you turn on PRINTER SHARING with

Hope this helps,

Re: mac to windows printing

2005-11-15 Thread John Siple
The PC has to have some kind of printer sharing ability. Macs can do
this, but I don't know about PCs, particularly PCs sharing their USB
printers with Macs.

One way I would approach it would be to attach the printer to the Mac
and turn on printer sharing. This, of course, would prevent printing
when the Mac isn't hooked into the network. But with the network set
up as you describe any printer sharing has to be done in the PC
universe and I don't know much about that part of the cosmos.

If you don't print much you could always just plug the printer into
your USB port on the Pismo when you need to print.

iBook G3 14" startup problems

2005-11-15 Thread Jean Sinervo
We have an iBook G3 800mhz 14" that has developed startup problems.
Last year it was through the Apple extended repair program for the
video/logic board issue and has been working well since.

This week, it has been locking up during use (OS 9.1), shut down and
restarted using the keyboard commands. I was told that one time it
started up and exhibited the same garbled lines on the screen as it had
before it went to Apple for the logic board repair. I haven't been able
to reproduce that since, however. I have attempted to reset PRAM
(letting it chime 3-5 times), reset the power manager using the keyboard
commands, removed all power from it, let it sit for a few hours,
attempted to restart using the power on key.

Sometimes, upon attempt to restart I hear one long (2-3 second) tone
before the startup chime. Sometimes I just hear the startup chime. In
either case, I don't hear the drive spinning up or anything beyond the
chime, and see no sign of life on the screen - it stays dark.

I tried reseating and removing the memory with no change in results.
Have attempted startup from both the AC power and just the battery
(which is fully charged).

Attempts to startup from a boot CD result in a startup chime, the sound
of the CD drive spinning for several seconds, and then more silence and
darkness.

Suggestions?

2005-11-15 Thread robert stiefvater
I am having a problem with the some keys on the keyboard. Sometimes it
will not allow me to use space bar, delete key, tab key.

This happens in all programs/applications.
I am using 10.3.9, I have run disk utilities and techtool without any
success .

Anybody have suggestions?
Thanks, bob

Sorry for the succinctness (sp?) but that's the best source -- followed
their instructions for my Lombard and I am smiling with my new RAM, HD,
and white Keyboard
