lots of peecee software is laden with myriad spywares. it's rather
disgusting. it embeds itself in your system files, makes itself
virtually impossible to delete, and sends joe-random-company details

example of spyware is Kazaa, and very few people realize all of this
information is being collected and sold by Kazaa.

that said... i'm completely unaware of any spyware on the mac.

A few months ago, on the VersionTracker site, someone, in the user

Re: Insurance Coverage on BeerBooks et al

2002-11-25 Thread Gene Merritt

No offense, but you feel it OK to ask your insurance company to pay for
something like that? That seems a bit like theft to me. Can some other
homeowners chime in and tell me that this is the norm? If I dropped my
TiBook I would not look for a loophole of coverage...since it was my mistake
and I dropped it. Even if my home was being broken into, I could still
manage to set my laptop down before grabbing my 9mm and going on to
investigate.

Now if my home caught on fire while I was away and burned up my
laptop...well that would be a different thing.

Obi-Wan

With all due respect , not all of us have (or want) a 9mm around in case
of such emergencies.
In the case of such kind of intrusion, one does what one has to do. We
all are different,
as are our responses in this respect. What was done, in this case, was
both herioc and
resulted in the capture of the criminal, WITHOUT any undue harm or loss
of life.

This kind of action should be applauded, period!

Re: Powerlogix end result

2002-05-17 Thread Gene Merritt

Everyone (that cares),

If you recall, I had my Powerlogix board go bad. After months of
waiting and a first bad board, my 2nd one works (after several
tries).

However it is now incompatible with the 256MB RAM that works in my
Apple board AND previously worked in the 466Mhz board.

Powerlogix says it is out of spec even though it works in the Apple
board AND in has worked flawlessly in the previous board under OS 9
and OS X.

I detect a change in their correspondence since I got my board.

In all honesty I cannot recommend them at all anymore _for anything_
because the problems went far beyond technical.

I am so glad I have my PBG4 - I don't think I could use my Wallstreet
thinking about them.

Aron

Aron, that's too bad (;(

What a lousy way for Powerlogix to do business! I remember writing to, and hearing
from their president directly. Him telling me NOT to believe everything I read in
these email postingsRIGHT!

I care, and I wish it had gone better for you.

Good luck!

Re: Good, inexpensive digital camera

Speaking of expensive (:--)), has anyone tried, or seen (in person)
the new Sony DSC-F707? It received some good reviews (speed-wise)
on the dpreview.com site.

I have a house full of old 35mm Nikons from my old news photog days. Now have a
disability and am researching a move to digital. Want higher quality. That Sony seems
nice.

I'm looking to get a digital camera, but I'm not sure what's good
considering how many different models are out there. I'm willing to
spend no more than $300, so what could I get in that price range that
would work with FireWire (I have a Wallstreet 233 with a FireWire
cardbus)?

You might want to check out this great digital camera site:

Re: Power Boy FireWire/USB drive encloser

So this means that if I go and get a 60gb hd for my Pismo, I can then take out
the OEM 10gb drive and hook it up as an external? Can that then also be used
to connect to my imac?

Yes, in both cases. I took the IBM drive out of MCE expansion bay module in my
Wallstreet and put it in a Powerboy so I could eaily move the drive to and from the
Wallstreet, this G4 and my wife's IMAC. It's bus-powered, meaning there's no power
cord. Just plug and play.

I replaced the OEM drive there w/ a
60GB Maxtor and now

have the OEM packed awayIs there anything like this powerboy thing for the
imac hd?

On this page you will find both the Powerboy case and the larger firewire case for the
IMAC OEM. This one, however, is not bus-powered, and comes with a power cord.

I don't know about OSX, but I DO know that the Firewire2Go
card (because it is not of the newest technology and not OHCI compliant) does not work
with some things. In my case
it will not allow my Wallstreet II to use my VST and Maxtor
firewire drives.

That's all I know.
