Boot into OS9 and just go to the Monitors control panel, make some changes and then boot back into OSX, this should eliminate the problem. I heard from a sales person in Apple Centre that this type of card will cause the PowerBook to hang. Any truth to this statement? As others have stated, you need to turn off processor cycling or else the system will hang. I've used a MacAlly USB card in a Wallstreet under both 9 and X, it works great. USB 2.0 is not supported by 9 or X yet so it should just function as a USB 1.1 card. Joe -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Is there any way for me to lubricate the rod holding the ink cartridges? What should I use? HP's website is brain-dead today, and I've got a zillion holiday cards to print! TIA, Marty Lindower [EMAIL PROTECTED] Marty, I was just researching the same problem on my Epson 740. I went to fixyourownprinter.com and came on these directions for mine: Clean the shaft that the cartridge holder slides on. Then put some light oil on it, but be careful not to spill any. There is a felt piece that´s soaked with oil inside the holder and sometimes this gets dry and causes these problems. The person used WD40 to lubricate it. I'm planning to do it on my 740, hopefully your HP would benefit from similar treatment. Regards, Joe -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Do I have to partition the disk to install it? Many thanks in advance. Chris Chris, As Gary mentioned, on a wallstreet you need to ensure that OSX is installed within the first 8GB of the drive. Also, that partition needs to end within the first 8GB of drive. I have no idea why this is the case with the wallstreet but it is definitely true, I've tried other combinations. THe issue then becomes one of installation. It's a user replaceable part if you are handy. You basically have to remove the panel and split the lid to swap it. Hi Hal, It's a fairly simple procedure to do. There are a handful of screws that yo'll ned to remove to open the case, once it's open you have easy access to the drive to swap out as you wish. I had documented the procedure when I sold a case, let me know if you need them and I can send the pictures to you. Joe -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: Wallstreet - Bad Battery?
On 5/10/02 2:15 PM [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Battery Reset 2.0 didn't (really) work. I have a Wallstreet (250MHz, 13.3 if it matters). I let it sit on the shelf in sleep for way too long (days). When I got back to it, it was totally dead. I knew about Battery Reset so I tried it. Battery Reset finds the battery and does something. The red X over the battery disappears for a few minutes, the little lightning bolt never appears, and eventually the red X comes back. Other than that, it works fine on AC. I would like to buy a new battery, but I want to be sure it is really the problem -- I've heard that the charging board goes bad sometimes, too. Is there any way to test it? Is there anyone in the Boston or Manchester, NH area who wants to spend 15 minutes letting me come over and try their battery in my 'book or vice versa? Any other ideas? I had the exact same issue in the exact same model. I picked it up used and the battery wouldn't charge but the AC would work. Swapping the battery with one from my 233 WSII proved that the battery was good and would charge. Also a charged battery would operate the WS 250, charging though would only work for about a minute. Rather than going through the process of chaging the sound/power board I found that using an old PB duo power supply caused the battery to charge while the laptop was off/asleep. When the powerbook is on it can either work off the charged battery or the AC power. I've since given the 'book to my sister and she's been using it like that for a few months and hasn't complained yet. Bottom line is that I don't think your battery is dead. I live in CT, if you happen to come down this far you're welcome to swing by and we can test using similar configs. Joe -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and...
