Re: Virtual PC Update

2003-11-12 Thread Kelly Johnson
I think you guys are missing the boat on MS's intentions. I think it
is a simple matter of them knowing that a significant number of mac
users, given sufficient experience with windows, will become
comfortable enough with it to ditch apple. They've lowered the price
already, which to me shows they want to lure more mac people into using
windows. That's all there is to it, I think.

The reason I say this is that I am a fairly typical user, and this is
what happened to me. I used windows in VPC, got comfortable with it,
became irritated with apple for a few reasons, sold my mac, bought a
pc, bought another pc. For the difference in money, I can live with a
pc now. I bought a pb12" because there truly was nothing else pc or
otherwise that could compete (sony vaio probably the closest), but I
wouldn't buy anything apple again, if it doesn't provide comparable
value in its hardware (osX isn't enough nicer than XP to warrant the
price differences for me). All because of VPC. kj.

Prob with sound on pb 12"

2003-11-02 Thread Kelly Johnson
I have a first gen pb12" that has an intermittent problem. Every once
in a while I get constant popping noises. Listening closer, I can hear
noise, then the pop, noise, then the pop, and so on, so I figure it
must have something to do with the energy saving feature that turns the
sound off when its not being used. It seems to, at least sometimes,
affect sound playback if I open iTunes or something, but I haven't
always tried. I don't know why it eventually goes away. My question
is whether there is any chance this could be a software problem. I'm
not crazy about reinstalling just to find out, and also I'm worried if
I send it to apple, they won't find a problem, as it is intermittent.
Any ideas? My warranty ends in february, so I'm thinking I should take
care of it, if need be. Thanks, kj.

Thanks in advance.

Re: ebay (postal money order)

Whenever I purchase an "expensive" item on Ebay I ask if I can use a

If you pay with a postal money order and get scammed, it becomes a
federal
offense and the United States Postal Inspection Service then becomes
involved. Luckily, it has never come to that for me. I purchased my
Pismo
this way 2 years ago.
This is a myth. If it is true, no one at the USPS knows or cares.
Just make a few phone calls to the USPS and you will find that they are
not willing to do anything for you just because you paid with a postal
money order. I know this from experience, unless things have changed
recently. Just so you know...kj.

Hey! Actually, my 12" alumabook has the enter key there also. I

Re: Hot AlBooks?

2003-02-27 Thread Kelly Johnson
I got mine last week, and I really, really hate to say it, but it gets
too hot. Amazingly hot! The fan really isn't all that loud, but it
doesn't seem to cool it down much either. The heat is mostly on the
left side of the book, and I don't know what makes it better or worse,
but it does seem to vary. All in all, I'm still happy as junk to have
it, but it is too hot, and I don't think there is anything that would
help. kj.
