It already connects to the dsl modem without trouble, I can't imagine it's going to be different if the computer goes wireless. Well, since airwaves can go pretty much anywhere and can be received by any people within range, all wireless protocols now have some kind of security layer where you have to authenticate before you can get access. So, if your coffee shop's wireless router isn't setup for any security, you'll be fine. If not, you'll have to find a way to provide the password to join their wireless network. I have, however, no experience with authenticating to a wireless access point besides the AirPort Base Station... -Laurent. -- Laurent Daudelin Developer, Multifamily, ESO, Fannie Mae mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]Washington, DC, USA Usual disclaimers apply *** -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... I want to put grampas slides/fotos onto DVD for the kids. 4. and maybe while I am wishing a gizmo to do WiFi... I would appreciate any help I can get on the what tools/install/tech as my very handy husband would be doing the work... Or we live in NW Indiana, near enough to Chicago or Indianapolis. In fact I will be in Indianapolis on Friday and could visit a shop if there was one...for a techie person to slap these things in? Does anyone know of an Indy Apple supplier, I need a cable to reconnect my newly repaired Laserwriter NTX to the Yamaha CRW4416SX which has a completely different cable connection... Kristina, What do you mean by can't find the file icon? Are you able to boot off the hard drive? If not, it might be a little hard to recover something from it. You might want to consider buying a USB external enclosure for the old drive when you get the new one. Then, if your PowerBook gets reliable as it should, you can investigate some tools to recover the data on the old drive in the external enclosure. OTOH, if it crashed so often, there might be a lot of corruption on it and it is possible that recovered files might be useless. You may have waited a little too long for replacing the drive. For instructions on how to replace the drive, check http://www.PBFixit.com/. The have guides that should show your husband how to replace the drive. If you're in the market for a Combo drive (read DVDs, read-write CDs), check PBFixit as well as they are selling replacements for the Lombard/Pismo. You might pay a little higher but you're almost sure that the drive will fit nicely in the expansion module which is not always true for other drives. I'm guessing that with a Yamaha CRW4416SX, you're looking for some kind of SCSI adapter cable. However, I didn't know that the LaserWriter II NTX had a SCSI connector... If you have a CompUSA or a Microcenter close, you might want to go check them. They should have a vast assortment of all kind of adapter cables. -Laurent. -- Laurent Daudelin Developer, Multifamily, ESO, Fannie Mae mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]Washington, DC, USA Usual disclaimers apply *** -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: Lombard cd-rom problem?

In the first case the system looks for the cd for a loong time, accompanied by much clicking. Sometimes the cd has to be reinserted a couple of times and then after a long wait it is finally mounted. After it is eventually seen the cd usually runs ok. In Diablo II it sees the cd fine but freezes up during any heavy action scene. In both cases I am using clean original cds. Some other cds take awhile to mount but generally work ok. Games which run off the hd work fine, only with Diablo which must use the cd do I have trouble. I am wondering whether any of this might be fixed by getting another cd-rom for my Lombard, or is there some other known reason it has such trouble with Diablo? Never heard about problems with the Diablo or Diablo II CDs. I've used them over and over in a variety of Macs and never had problems myself. I'm not 100% sure but usually, the reset switch is NOT the CUDA switch. On my PowerMac BW G3, the external reset switch doesn't seem to have anything to do with the CUDA switch which is on the motherboard. However, they could be the same thing. Here is what Apple says about the CUDA chip: The Cuda is a microcontroller chip on the Power Macintosh G4 (PCI Graphics) logic board. and: The function of the Cuda chip is to: ?
