OT Need Phone Recording help
I desperately need to figure out how to record phone conversations (interviews) into my 15 PB (OS 10.3.9, Skype, AudioHijack Pro, Audacity, Sound Studio). I also have Vonage and will consider adding Softphone or Skypeout, but only when I know I can record what I need. I bought the Griffin iMic and can see and hear sound in the various programs and the sound preference panel, but no matter what I do, I can't seem to record the other half of the conversation through Skype. I also need to record from a phone directly into the computer. I can currently record phone interviews into a DAT recorder with a Radio Shack adapter and then dub the recording, but it's a huge waste of time. Need opinions on how to sell
After years of working my way up through used powerbooks, I'm finally settled into a G4 15 al and a Pismo backup. I still have all the Lombards and even a 3400 I've used along the way and would like opinions on whether to part them out on eBay or just say a box of Lombards (probably three or more) for parts. One worked fine except for a screen that would scramble. I don't remember about the others but I must have moved along for a reason. All are 400s except for one 333. They all have their RAM and everything else. I never took anything out except hard drives, just moved on to the next one. I'd like to get the most out of them to pay for the newest ones. Suggestions? formerly dead HD and backup software

emergency word doc
I emailed the other day about my dead HD, which I sent off for data recovery. First, the data recovery guy said he could see the HD and sent it back to me, although I don't have it yet. Second, I put another working HD in the same computer and that one wasn't recognized, either, so the HD isn't the problem. Suggestions? Third, and MOST important: I was able to grab some needed files I thought in the computer's dying breath. It turns out, though, that the icon says PC and I get a message that it isn't a Word file when I try to open it. It's urgent that I have access to that file today, but Text Edit won't open it and neither will Simple Text. Does anyone know what I can use to open the file? Interestingly, some of the files I grabbed were OK, some had a lot of code embedded, but I could still salvage them, some had PC icons and some had Word icons. Having a Word icon didn't seem to make any difference as far as the quality or accessibility goes. Any help sent directly will really be appreciated. BTW, I have a Linksys wireless router. Does anyone have experience with printing through this system? I suspect I'd have to have another computer networked to do it. Yes, you could get an ORiNOCO Silver or Gold card, which are basically the same than Apple own AirPort card. On OS 9, you only have to install the AirPort software and your card will be recognized as a genuine AirPort card. On OS X, you need to use 3rd party drivers. -Laurent. I concur. The ORiNOCO Silver/Gold are good cards. I use them exclusively. FWIW, though, IOXperts make drivers that will work with just about any Wi-Fi card out there. The drivers are pretty cheap (~$20, so if you find a really cheap PC card...). They make drivers for OS 9 and OS X. You'll need two seperate licenses (one per operating system), if you run both OSs. As Laurent already mentioned, the ORiNOCO cards (WaveLAN chipset) are recognized by AirPort 1.x and 2.x as AirPort PC cards. OS X (and AirPort 3.x) do NOT recognize these cards, so you'll need drivers for OS X. FWIW, the Apple AirPort card is a rebadged WaveLAN Silver... (Dan K - I still haven't played around with my AirPort card in my PC Card slot or WaveLAN card in my AirPort slot - I'll let you know if anything funny happens when I do.) Snow base A/C
Can anyone tell me what the A/C adapter for the Airport Snow base looks like? I'm finally getting around to hooking it up to my Lombard, but apparently didn't put it back in the box, and I have a ton of those things around. The book is pretty adamant about using only the one that came with the base. TIA Willi -- -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... bit OT Dreamweaver on Lombard/OS9
Does anyone on the list use Dreamweaver MX? I just installed it on my Lombard PB, running OS9.2.2 and can't get it to start. I first get a DW window and then up pops a dialogue box No Document Types found. Application will now quit and it does. I can't find any reference to the message anywhere and nobody on the Dreamweaver list has responded. I'm thinking they're mainly PC users. I apologize for being OT here, but I'm up a creek. printing from USB (Lombard, OS 9.2.2) to serial (Canon
I bought an AsanteTalk for printing to the Laserwriter from a Lombard through a crossover ethernet cable. I think there's also an Asante Print, which wasn't the one. need Airport/DSL help
I am despairing of ever figuring this out by myself: I have: Lombard G3 PB White Airport base station Silver (ALSO GOLD)Wavelan card (ALSO AIRPORT CARD) Bellsouth.net DSL connection Alcatel USB modem from Bellsouth Alcatel 1000 ADSL from eBay The USB modem works with my computer just fine, but the Airport base takes an ethernet connection. I got the 1000 ADSL modem thinking that it might work because it has ethernet. I am truly stymied. Can anybody walk me through this step by step? I'll be happy to by another modem if I have to. erratic display Lombard
My Lombard screen spontaneously combusts fairly regularly all of a sudden. If I adjust the angle of the screen it will clear up. When it goes crazy, it looks like the old-fashion horizontal (or was it vertical?) hold on televisions. Any ideas? Display? Screen connectors? Something internal? I've never run into this one before. Asante reply G3 4/600 problem
A while ago I asked the list for suggestions on connecting my Apple 4/600 to my G3 Lombard with no serial port. At a kind lister's suggestion I got an AsantePrint Micro on eBay. It wouldn't work, so I emailed Asante last night and got a reply already this morning. I thought I'd pass it on in case anybody else has the same situation: -- If the link LI indicator is not on then there is no Etherent connection between the G3 and the Micro AsantéPrint. The AsantéPrint series of devices do not auto negotiate with 10/100Mbps-NWay ports (such as those found on the G3/G4/iMac systems or on dual speed switches/hubs). The interposition of a 10Mbps hub between the Micro AsantéPrint and the 10/100Mbps-NWay device will fix connection problems if this is encountered. To resolve this issue the 10/100Mbps-NWay ports, where these connections are made on switches/hubs, will need to have those ports configured to 10Mbps and Half-Duplex operation (and this is not possible on the G3/G4/iMac/iBooks). If this is not possible then interposition of a 10Mbps hub between the Micro AsantéPrint and the 10/100Mbps-NWay device will resolve this problem. Once you connect the AsantéPrint device to a 10Mbps hub it will work just fine. We recommend the following products: Product Name:FH10T5-G - FriendlyNet 10Mbps Hub (5-port) Product Number:99-00613-01 Suggested Retail:$33.00 However, I would recommend the AsantéTalk as a logical replacement for this Micro AsantéPrint. Basically the AsantéTalk and the Micro AsantéPrint are the same device with the following differences: *The AsantéTalk is a non-managed device that will Auto-Negotiate with a NWay device (such as a G3 or iMac Ethernet port). So it can be connect directly to one of these machines without the use of a hub to establish communications. *The AsantéPrint is a device that is has limited management capability (this is mostly performance monitoring type functionality) that does not Negotiate with NWay devices. This means that it will not be able to directly connect to a NWay device and must have a hub placed between it and the NWay device to operate. Other than those distinct differences both devices are the same and have similar capabilities and limitations. hot G3 333 vs cool G3 400 plus keyboard
Same Lombard I've been having problems with re: keyboard. The 333 is much hotter to the touch than the 400. Why is it hot and, I should do something about it, what? Now, about the keyboard. I've posted about this several times concerning lines of keys that don't operate although an external keyboard does. When I removed the keyboard the last time, I looked very closely with a magnifying glass at the connector on the board. It appears as though the metal contact over the right front hole is missing. Could that be the problem or is there not supposed to be one? I'm not ready to relegate this to the parts department for the 400, but it's frustrating. replacing Lombard keyboard
Interestingly, the inside of my Lombard 333 doesn't look like the picture Kyle sent me. Here's what happened today: I successfully removed the old keyboard and installed the new one. However, the problem is not solved at all and this might be an indication of a different problem. I'm soliciting opinions. On the old keyboard, a diagonal-to-the-right line starting with the numeral 9 didn't work and the return key was getting finicky. On the new keyboard, the non-working diagonal line moved one space to the left, starting with the 8. Could I have bought a bad keyboard or is there something going on elsewhere that's manifesting itself with these problems? In this machine there is only one cable connecting the keyboard to the chassis. It has a connector with two rows of pins that go into the board. I have a JPG, if anyone want's to hazard a guess. Replacing keyboard
I'm trying to replace the keyboard on my Lombard and, as several on the list pointed out when I was changing hard drives, I have instructions for the wrong G3. PS problem on Lombard
Does anyone have an idea on why, in Photoshop 5.5's rubber stamp, I can't select the area to copy with Option/Enter on the Lombard?
