Re: Connecting stereo to PowerBook
IMHO there isn't a single 'Right way' to do this. If you amp stages are such that any input beyond your volume's mid point causes clipping or saturation, then it will sound distorted and choppy. Brian is right about one thing though, signal to noise ratio is important. Once you have found the highest input signal without distortion, leave it alone and adjust the volume from the amplifier. In short, find an acceptable volume on the pismo, then use the volume control on the stereo. Sounds to me like you were already on the right track anyway. Re: Connecting stereo to Powerbook
I have a PowerBook Wallstreet 233 and I wanted to hook it up to my Audiovox stereo CD player, so that my computer's sound comes from my stereo speakers and allows me to use the stereo as normal. I do have a cord that looks like a two-sided headphone jack, which came with my 14 A-V monitor that I don't use anymore. It allowed me to use the speakers on the monitor instead of the single speaker on the computer. Could I use this to connect my PowerBook to my stereo, or would I need a new connector? I have been able to play sounds from the stereo on the computer's built in speakers, but that's not what I'm really looking to do. Assuming your Audiovox stereo has an input jack, you should have no problem. Look for LINE IN or AUX or TAPE on the stereo. The MIC jack won't do, as it will need a different impedance than what your Powerbook puts out. The cord you have is a standard 1/8 (or (3.5mm) connection. If your stereo uses that size, you're good to go. But if it has RCA type jacks, you'll have to run to Radio Shack or Frye's to get an 1/8 stereo to RCA stereo adapter cord. __C -- Chrys R. Re: Connecting stereo to PowerBook
The output of a Wallstreet powerbook is approximately at Line Level, which means you can connect it via a lead with a 3.5mm stereo plug (mini headphone plug) to two phono (RCA) plugs, plugged into your Aux sockets on your HiFi. If you don't get any sound, check that the Mute button is not checked in the Sound Control Panel.
