Re: Firewire not working

2005-04-01 Thread Muddle Man
I recommend trying the cable and iPod on a different
Mac. This sounds like a hardware problem and testing
like this will be the only way to figure it out.

If it turns out it is the firewire port, then consider
calling Apple if it's still under warranty.

The older TiBooks were notorious for having FW ports that were easy
to fry. I killed mine (on a 500) by plugging in an external self
powered HD. My solution was to go to Otherworld and get a FW PC card.
Of course, with the PC Card it will only sync, but not charge as PC
card ports don't supply power.

Well, I would maybe suspect the FireWire cable to be defective. If you could
try with another one, that would answer that question. If it's not the
cable, then, it has to be the FireWire port on the computer itself, or the
chip that runs the protocol. Hard to say...

Firewire not working

2005-04-01 Thread Orlando Mac Geek
I have a Titanium Powerbook 667. Never really had an opportunity to
use the firewire port on it until now. Just got myself a 15Gb iPod
and it is having a very weird issue. If I plug the iPod into my
Firewire port it will only charge, it will not sync. I have to plug
the iPod into my USB2 card in order to sync. Let me answer this right
off the bat...YES, I am using the proper cable. The iPod came with a
firewire cable which I use and get the result above. I went out and
bought one of those USB2/Firewire combo cable, plugged in just the
USB2 cable and boom it syncs. Tried just the firewire part of the new
cable and same thing, it will charge but not sync.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?
