OT..Sorry..Help w/ 10.2.6 Mail
What a P.O.S. this is!!! Can anyone tell me how to mark messages that I keep as VIP..Lesser VIP,etc?? Also..any suggestions as to an Excellent tutorial book for this P.O.S. OS? I was forced into it because of a Maxtor 60 Gig HD wipeout on my iMac SE 400 and my son reformatting my Pismo 400 to 10.2.6 completely. He is gone and I am stuck with this P.O.S. I and my wife had been perf3ctly happy and comfortable with 9.2.2 and then disaster struck.. This Safari thing seems as useless as ti*s on a boar hog... The problems I am having w/ 10.2.6 are ALMOST enough to make me want to go back to my C=64 and C=128's...Not to mention the decrepit Thinkpad 560 and my son's P.O.S. Gateway!!! Also, I guess that I am completely scared of screwing something up royally with this OS..ie..fsck etc...What does that stuff mean?? I do have Disk Warrior 3.0..That enabled me to at least rescue the iMac partially...At least it boots up in 10.2.6 but asks me for a password before it will load..(My wife wants me to just throw everything out...) If I run that a least once a week will that keep me safe??? I really need some help here...I have been using Macs since I bought my Performa 5200 in 6/96 and moved from Commodore.. I REALLY would hate to go to Windows...HELLLPP MEEE!!! Regards, Mike K -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: OT..Sorry..Help w/ 10.2.6 Mail
This is a baffling post and I will assume its not a gratuitous flame. OSX is a little different--but if you want OS9 all you have to do is use OS9 in classic mode. I use classic mode ALL THE TIME. My secretary and I both prefer classic mode to OS9 because of its wonderful stability, and it is not that much slower (except on one or two exotic type things). I think it helps to have classic load automatically on startup and stay on all the time. Classic then allows you to use your old mail software or anything else in OS9. My daughter put OSX on my Lombard and it surprised me by working just fine. She has a 20gig drive and 320M Ram. Read the help file on how to start up without the password. I cannot imagine that anyone would not prefer Safari to MSExplorer. Explorer has an ebay thing that is nice--but ebay gives you the same thing on your ebay account. The scrapbook is nice--but not that nice. Go ahead and use Explorer if you like. -- -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... If by this you mean marking the priority of messages, no, though this is rumored to be fixed in 10.3. For the moment, create folders named VIP, Lesser VIP, etc, and file the messages there. Also..any suggestions as to an Excellent tutorial book for this P.O.S. OS? 'Mac OSX The Missing Manual', by David Pogue. By far the best book on the subject. I and my wife had been perf3ctly happy and comfortable with 9.2.2 and then disaster struck.. This Safari thing seems as useless as ti*s on a boar hog... It is a fast, compatible web browser. What exactly is making it useless for you? Is there somethignprevnting you from simply re-formatting your Pismo and re-installing 9.2? Re: OT..Sorry..Help w/ 10.2.6 Mail
Alex, OS X is a great OS. Bear with it, you have to climb the learning curve which fortunately is neither steep nor long. It is so much better than 9, Windows or Linux! As for Safari, it is fast and generally works well. Sometimes it has troubles with certain sites, but every web browser does. So I keep Camino and IE around for those few that don't work with Safari. Safari and Camino are both much faster than IE. fsck (file systems check) is a traditional UNIX tool for checking the file system. I've never needed a third party utility for disk repair in OS X. If the system was shut down improperly it runs fsck on reboot to fix the file system. Let it work. As for requiring a password, you can enable automatic login in the Users panel in the System Preferences App. Paul At 1:22 PM -0400 8/1/03, Kochkodin wrote: What a P.O.S. this is!!! Re: OT..Sorry..Help w/ 10.2.6 Mail
Get The robin Williams Mac OS X Book. Spend a few hours, and get to LOVE this OS. You will be glad you did! You can also get, i think you should actualy start with that one The MAc OSX Conversion Kit: 9 to 10 side by side, it will help you translate what you already know under os 9 and apply it to os X.
