When I was watching the keynote and I saw the 17" PowerBook, the first
thing I thought of was the WingBook. It was almost scary how similar
they are.

It may be if you have converted to a G4 or not also, I guess I'll find out
in about a week or so, I'm waiting on Fedex for the shipping container to
send the processor back for upgrade and expect my 2nd 512MB memory will be
here for installation by the time I get it back. They say a 5 to 7 day
turnaround for the upgrade. By the time I'm done I'll have a fully tricked
out Pismo G4, 40 GB HD, 1GB Ram , we'll see what that baby does to the
backup battery. Will report back in about a week.

While asleep and *NOT* using the adapter? As I understand it, it could be
possible as the limit where the Pismo backup battery will run out of juice
to maintain RAM is probably not set for a specific amount, but rather how
much power remains in the backup battery itself with the power that is
needed to keep the RAM active.

I wonder if this is something that only affects the first configuration
Pismos, (before Apple upped the minimum hard disk) as I have a gig, and
I can change batteries while asleep. Have done it several times, never

I believe that limitation only shows up when you have a full gig of memory;
intermediate amounts (e.g., 640MB, 768MB) are ok.

In point of fact, I can hot-swap batteries on my Pismo (in sleep mode)--it
has 640MB of memory.

It is a Pismo problem, as I have 1 Gig in both of mine, but since I never

I guess you did. It has been reported several times that the internal
battery will only support up to 512MB of Ram when swapping the (external)
battery. I used to have a pismo with one 1GB RAM and hot swapping (in sleep
mode) of the battery resulted in a reboot.

Should the pismo owner opt to upgrade here is how it's done:

Here is also an interesting article:

Heck yes Javier - go for the 512MB. I just installed that size chip in my

Yes, that's a good idea, but just a little warning, though. If you go above
512 MB of RAM, the backup battery would probably be unable to provide enough
power to keep your PowerBook sleeping should you have to switch battery
while being unable to use your AC adapter. I know that this is probably not
a problem for the majority of users, but thought you should know anyway.

With the current prices don't waste your money on 256MB but go for at least
an additional 512MB of RAM. People on this list will give you great
recommendations on the best buys.

Pismo arrived.... at last!

2003-01-28 Thread Javier Miranda
Dear friends:
At last my Pismo 500/12Gb/128, arrived last weekend (troubles of living a
little bit off-center)I bougth it on eBay it is almost new, I recived the
computer, and the power adapter, no installations or manuals but I really
don´t miss it, the only cable I will have to look for is a converter from
S-Video to RCA fot video out.
I re-formated the HD, and install 10.2 (didn´t install sys 9), It works
really fine it came with 128MB, and I add a 32MB dimm a leftover from my
brothers ibook. Think performance will increase with more ram, I´m looking
for, at least 256MB more.
Well it´s all, I just wanted to share my excitement.
Any recomendations (aside study real english) is welcome!
Saludos,

Javier
