Re: Printer Port Adapter

2004-12-13 Thread PETE
I installed the printer drivers, installed the usb
card plus drivers, went to chooser and clicked on the
HP DeskJet 350 icon. On the right screen of the
chooser the only statement that appeared read 'select
a HP DeskJet:' this appeared above the dialog
box.Nothing appeared inside the box. (e.g. If I click
on the color SW Pro icon on the left dialog box what
appears on the right box is 'connect to:' then the
option given is 'Serial Port' ). What this means is
that I can't print using the usb printer since the
chooser is not giving me a choice in the right dialog
box. What am I doing wrong?

You mean, a PCMCIA USB card? If so, you should be
 all set. What is the
 problem?

Belkin, Keyspan, and I am sure other companies, make Serial/USB adapters.
---
These all allow serial devices to be connected to USB
ports. I doubt that you will find one to allow USB devices
to be connected to legacy serial ports.

Ken

Would PowerPrint for Serial Ports help? Supports only the Classic OS.

Serial to Parallel printer adaptor.

http://www.strydent.com/strydent-software-products/powerprint-products.html

Or you could combine a CardBuss USB card with PowerPrint USB and have
printer drivers for most any printer. Still, only works with the Classic OS.

Those allow use of a serial peripheral on an USB port. What I think
Pete wants is to use an USB peripheral on a serial port.

The printer would need to have its own power supply for the
Wallstreet (and not rely on the USB connection to provide it -- it's
a portable printer after all). And it might need proprietary drivers,
depending on the OS.
