Re: Memory for Wallstreet

2004-03-04 Thread Luis Sequeira
Be careful about the memory in the Wallstreet. I was only able to get
256 total (2 - 128 chips, Kingston) ram work in my Wallstreet 233,
which also had a Powerlogix 466 upgrade card installed. There have been
many listers that reported successfully using the larger 512 chips and
some reporting 2 - 512 working. Since Apple only certified the
Wallstreet for 192 mb ram, you are really on your own. Most reputable
vendors will take the memory back either in exchange or credit.
As far as I know, no one ever offered an answer why some people could
and some couldn't make the higher ram work.

My wife's Wallstreet 233 II has a 256MB SODIMM in the upper slot and
I put in precisely a 256MB SODIMM that I had retired from my TiBook.
It works, but only 128MB of it is recognized. This seems to be a
reasonably well known issue with the type of memory that the
Wallstreet is not fully equipped to handle. Not as big an upgrade as
I expected, but works well.

Re: Memory for Wallstreet

2004-02-29 Thread john slavin
Actually I now see I'm backwards in that it's a low profile, which of
course means it would work in both, so does that means we could have
two 512s and have a wallstreet recognize both?

possible to have a combination of 512 and 256 now?

The largest memory on that page is a 256 Mb. The only mention of 512
is in regard to a 256 Mb low profile model which means they're
talking about the ability to put two 256Mb SODIMMs.

Re: Memory for Wallstreet

2004-02-29 Thread Stanton Mitrany
Hi, Folks!

Please forgive my intrusion into this conversation.

I've been receiving contradictory opinions about whether I can use a matched
pair of low profile OEM 256MB SODIMMs from a Titanium G4 in a Wallstreet
233, and have them recognized and be usable as 512 MB of ram by that
machine. Their speed is 133MHz, and I believe the Wallstreet's bus is either
66 or 100MHz. I've heard from some that these Hynix sodimms should clock
down to 100MHz and work fine, and by others that the'll blow up the
Wallstreet or that the Wallstreet has a 66MHz bus and that the chips won't
work at all.

Can you either shed some light on this or direct me to a reliable source for
this information?

Thank you!

All the best,
stanton
